CJ I am glad your pleased with your car ,the lads here have all been waiting for the results, they take great pride in their work, and spent a lot of time building the engine to exact tolerances,Dave was pleased with the cylinder head rework(my head has now been done to the same spec).the car with drag tyres and a good launch will break 11sec ,and remain as a reliable street car (in reality I think its too powerfull for a road car). The MOTEC is the way to go , thats what im going to use. I have talked with my partners and we are willing to offer the club members only discounted labour on Supras -single conversions, bodykits, etc etc. although the new MINI is our mainstay, Ive just sold my M3 and got a cooper S convertible, which is now running 250 bhp plus 30 shot of nitrous,it will scare a few supras! CJ -well done on your car Adam

I can do nitrous refills, but Im in Cardiff -£35 for an 11lb bottle

we have now rebuilt and refitted CJs engine,he is now running in the engine, the results look promising ; the effect so far with the ported and polished head is a reduction in egt of 100 degrees c under the same conditions as prior to his plug fail, I did promise pics, but havent got round to it,as my head comes back this week I will take some pics of mine post porting. As the engine is run in and running more boost we will get more feedback on the egt margins and the effect on spooling of the single turbo I will post more later

cont... in cj,s case it would add about 50bhp.more importantly is the torque increase and spool, the porter went on for a couple of hours but my head hurt, when he went on about air ratios and such like -some jobs are best left to those that know- please dont ask about dyno comparissions pre post work. the proof of the pudding ...will be cj he has driven the car stock, with single and numerous uprades, he would be a better judge than any dyno-if he comes back and says fcuk me! with a big smile then we have succeeded pics to follow

anyway-back to the head, having taken the head to my mate to have a look at what he can do-firstly he thinks the original head is of a superior design as stock(common with most jap cars)but improvements can be made-there will be less gains with stock turbos as the head probably equals or out flows their capeability, with uprated turbos/turbo more gains will be apparent,in a single set up it will also drop the rpm that it will hit full boost/speed up spool time due to increased flow thru the head. there are very few gains to be had from from inlets but a slight polish deep in the tracts will help, the chamber polish will also not provide a huge gain but every little helps-the main gains are to be had in the exhaust ports-but as you enlarge these air volume increases but the velocity decreases this is where a seriously good head guy earns his crust by enlarging the port and altering the converging duct then polishing every surface within the port and matching to gasket/manifold about 2-3 days work by hand and all done by experience-too much off = nackered head not funny on a megabuck race engine. its all down to the guy having nearly 30 years doing nothing but porting-having done 1000,s of heads and all the feedback from the race teams ie what lasts /fails/etc. the 2 heads he has mine and cj,s both have oversize valves and he thinks he can achieve 10% increase in torque throughout the rev range and its associated bhp increase

on collection of the car I was told it had previously had an fpr problem-dont shoot the messenger-the point of the post was to show the effects of incorrect fuelling-the head was/is as black as your hat-the car has had a good few starts and is currently hugely overfuelling-the other purpose of the post was to show folks what a ported/polished/flowed and matched head looks like and an insight into the reasoning behind the various techniques used by one of the top head guys in the country a good idea in a tech forum i thought
-
turbo looks undamaged-every cloud....
-
I guess iridium plugs are really costly!--not picking on fpr-he was just unlucky just highlighting the the importance of fuelling and excess heat due high boost-gotta keep those egts down
-
this is a pic of CJ,s cylinder head that we are currently repairing - the cause was a failed fuel regulator/ running lean thus overheating the plug to the point that the end came came off -leading to a few dents in piston crown, few scores in bore, ultimately exiting the exhaust valve chipping it and causing burnthrough --- just a warning to those who wanna run high boost without adequate fuelling and control of fuelling---(not CJ,s car he was just unlucky) I will post pics next week after head rework/port/polish if anyones interested ps if anyones going for larger valves i,d use ferrea in preference to crower far better finish,1 gram lighter(both lighter than stock)i dunno what the price diff is-just my opinion

total time the bmw technician is allocated for oil change is 14 mins! they dont even put it on ramps and remove the sump plug, they suck it out the dipstick tube-the 14 mins includes collecting keys/returning, booking the timesheets, jobcard, oil from stores. they also charge £10 for disposal of old oil - THE CUSTOMER PAYS FOR THE FULL HOUR- main dealers you gotta admire em --- ----wonder why I set up as an independent?

there is a place in Bridgend, renowheel I think, an hour from you

Oh dear! why have they gone with a bentley/nissan 350 clone, when they already designed the xk180? , which has to be one of the best looking cars ever. First The S type, then the X type(read mondeo) , then a diesel , then an ESTATE, no more F1, why not just put the leaping cat on a focus and be done with it? from V12 to a diesel...... mutter.....bloody ford...mutter....
-
looking good Dude, I think the rear wiper should have been removed though-who cares who is behind you?-bit late now though eh?
-
the skirts came with the car when I bought it
-
Nice work, good project, I can see a couple of potential difficulties that may take some thought ref stalling the compressor air,I will re-read your site and put on my thinking cap. good to see people thinking outside the box,and experimenting
-
Ricer-me ! ......note to self -never wear baseball cap backwards- one side vent for trans cooler and fan, the other for charge cooler rad
-
Red,.blue...purple.... but will it confuse the gatsos?--looking good Dude, will be nice to see the project finished for this coming summer,turbo,supercharger,etc..etc ---then wreck someones dyno:D

If you went lpg you would also have very clean head, valves etc, also if you wanted to restore the slight power loss you could just return to petrol when you wanted,no different to making an adjustment in controller surely, the only downside i can see is the initial cost and the locating of a gas tank of any size

My new company has just opened - http://www.minimaniauk.com - and im looking for a printing company to do brochures etc , I have all the necessary artwork, any printers out there?
-
I would think you would find it pointless,as a charger would be more than enough-ie very high torque at very low rpm
-
Id be up for this!,count me in

removing weight will help acceleration, and its cheaper to remove weight than to add horsepower, weight removal will have little or no effect on top speed, unless the distance to get to top speed is limited, top speed is down to the frontal area and engine power primarily, if you carried a 500 kg weight in the supe top speed would be the same

Just for info fuses will take about 4 times their rating for a brief moment (dependent on the ambient temp) and the amount of extra current so your 15 amp fuses could pass 45 amps for a very short time -enough to take out your headlights as chris said , the voltage reg in the alternator could be playing up or the brushes in the alt sparking/worn out causing the volts reg to throw a wobblie, most alts have a surge diode in them to prevent more than 18 volts( I dont know if the supe has one) The thing is you may check the o/p volts and its fine, until it spikes again -yet another set of headlight bulbs if they are switched on whilst the volts spike( headlights are more susceptable to blowing cos they are one of the hottest and heaviest loads on the car)-- then again it could just be cheap bulbs -- I know a recon alt replacement may be a pain /expense , but so is new bulbs, and fried battery

unfortunately a by product of producing more power is more heat and stress- its gonna go wrong , I have already budgeted for this in my mind so as I dont feel so pi---d off when it happens. I cant understand the US owners who claim they have an 700 hp daily driver! -arse
