  1. It should be pretty easy to diagnose a exhaust leak around the mani/turbo. It would be a "chuffing" noise and you should be able to hear it from under the bonnet. It's a tricky one to call from hearing the clips. If it was a timing/alternator/AC pulley, it should be more consistent and wouldn't necessarily go away once it's warm, but it might still be worth look at them to eliminate them. You NEED to get under it and have a look matey. Just hope my first suspicion doesn't come to light.
  2. Hmmmm... had a good listen through the headphones and it doesn't sound like the big ends. From the high pitched ring to it, I can't help but think it's a lose bracket/heat shield/pipe vibrating. I've asked for opinions on another tech forum I post on for extra help.
  3. Could be well be. I genuinely hope so in any case. Exhaust gas leaks usually have a distinctive sound. If I was in your position I would get under the car, even if you lay down next to it and try to see if it's coming from the exhaust system, then get someone to blip it. TBH, you should be able to hear a exhaust leak on idle though...
  4. Sweet. I'm sure someone will be able to shed some light on here.
  5. I thought Khan looked confident and wasn't fazed by his defeat. What worries me is there was no sign of him learning from his mistakes. I think he needs to accept that he doesn't have a chin. Sure he's brave, but I don't think his game plan should include standing toe to toe with a hitter. Fagan's attacks were pretty awful to be brutally honest... Pack Man was awesome. He didn't look to have lost any speed with his extra muscle. Dela Hoya looked a demoralised by the 5th. I know it sounds crazy, but I think Pac Man is the better opponent for Hatton. At Junior Welterweight, I think Hatton will have the power and the chin to mix it up, but it won't be easy. Can't wait to see it, when it happens.
  6. True it would rattle all of the time, but that would depend on the degree of the failure. Also, no, it wouldn't get worse when it's hot... if anything, it would get better; the play is taken up due to the heat (expansion). To reiterate though, I would be surprised if it WAS the big ends due to the trend among other JZ's. It could be a number of things without hearing a sound clip/it in person.
  7. You smoke in your car?!.... only an NA driver would do that.... ;)
  8. I would be swaying towards big end bearing failure (death rattle), but I don't think this is common with the 2JZ..... I'd keep a very close eye on it. If it gets worse, stop the engine and take it to a garage or post a sound clip on here for diagnoses before continuing to use it. Hope this helps.
  9. Big carb'd V8's are pretty crude as it is. It sounds happy as Larry to me. Awesome car, btw.
  10. If you're happy with the performance, who gives a .... what anyone else thinks.
  11. Should have waited for the straight... AWD has it's benefits, but personally, they under steer too much for my liking. RWD's will step.... it's the knowing "when" it's going to happen, and the "how" to get it back that helps to keep you out of the ditches.
  12. Yeah, I agree that the Supra demands respect, but I think it can be pushed to it's limits by someone with experience. I'm sure there are guys on here who do it on a regular basis.
  13. Awesome thread, Miko. :notworthy:notworthy This will be coming in handy next summer.
  14. Personally, I think the Supra is a RWD car for experienced drivers. After crashing my first Supra (repairing it and selling it), I decided I needed experience in a more forgiving RWD car. As a result I went out and bought a 200sx S13. I've been driving it for nearly 2 years now and it's done me a world of good (restoring my confidence).
  15. My thoughts exactly, Tom. Yeah, it's definitely less than ideal to travel that far, but I intend to eventually convert this NA auto to a Aero 6sp TT. It's something I've wanted to do since, well... since I saw them in the U.S. This car (if it turns out to be ok) is perfect for the project.
  16. Ahh, I'm with you. Yeah, it's a bit tricky to see with the quality of the pics. Hopefully you're right about the protector. It certainly looks as if the protector could be to blame, but it's something to note. I text the guy today asking for more recent pictures with close ups of the interior, engine bay and the car in general. He said that once his girlfriend is back he'll get her to upload the pictures to his computer as he struggles to work his way around one. Seems like a genuine guy (for what that's worth) and he's confident that I won't be disappointed if I make the trip. Sometimes I think you've just got to take these chances.
  17. That's a good point... I hadn't realised that each picture only showed the driver side. Objectivity kinda goes out of the window when I want to just get in it and drive. :O Is there anychance you could specify in which picture it catches your eye? http://images.pistonheads.com/aimg/786/786954-9.jpg In this picture the top alignment looks to be ok, but I haven't owned one of these for a long time so I would trust someone who sees it everyday.
  18. http://pistonheads.com/sales/786954.htm Looks like I will be making a trip from Southampton to Northern Ireland to look at it... and hopefully bringing it back, if it's up to stratch. *crosses fingers* Just thought I'd check with you guys before I booked the tickets. Thanks in advance.
  19. This is encouraging. It's about time Toyota shifted their focus away from the shopping trolley market for a brief moment. To be honest, I'm just glad they made the Mk IV Supra. Anything decent to come will be a bonus.
  20. Agreed on the bonnet regarding a overall aggressive look. I also like the practical benefits of the vented/fibre glass/carbon bonnet. Look forward to the pics.
  21. Yeah, there's really no chance of fitting the "Penis Extension" inside the car.
  22. All noted, thanks for the additional heads up Terminator. If all goes well I'll be picking up the Supra (the one being converted) next week. Can't wait.
  23. Ok, I'll bare that in mind when looking for the donor car. This thread and the guides have been bookmarked! Fingers crossed for finding a good deal on a donor car.
