  1. They did, Jezz, yeah. The assessor rang actually and gave me the option. There were a few other extenuating circumstances and I made the right choice in the end. I spoke with you briefly about getting a viscous coupling from you as I was visiting friends up near QSD at the weekend. The next day I twatted it on a kerb and wrote it off. Didn't need the coupling in the end Thanks for the info though, and for your avatar picture which has made me LOL about 10 times now. KaiBosh
  2. I got 3500 for it which is very reasonable in the current climate. I invested in tools-in-trade (a new Mac) to earn more money - the plan is to save for a UK spec. Can't wait! Cheers KaiBosh
  3. What does that mean Jezz? They've had it repaired, certified and cleared the damage/claim record? Or it was never recorded? And Jon: "Dont worry about the request for the DVLA this happened to me once in the past" Thanks for this, I will stop fretting now. Just a bit of a shock to see it again I suppose - I should be glad it's not dead. It's like seeing a seriously hot ex-wife with a new bloke
  4. Hahahaha, just spotted this on the listing: "Beautiful rare colour" It's black.
  5. Well that's the thing. I was told by more mechanically-minded and equipped people than I, that it wouldn't cost that much to fix if you did it yourself and put in used parts etc. Maybe - HOPEFULLY - that's what's happened here.
  6. Good find, Sprag. Not exactly the same but very very similar. I imagine I'll get another one for the next Supe.
  7. Yeah probably, Pedro. I just hope it HAS been repaired. So what happens in these cases then? The insurer takes ownership, sells it to a salvage agency and they sell it on? Why do other auctions say things like "This is a Cat B write-off but has been repaired"? I'd assumed it was a legal requirement.
  8. It's a universal one. Carbon fibre, £250 from... damnit, I can't remember the one useful bit of info. Some dealer in W Sussex I seem to recall. Sorry
  9. I got a headache from all the exclamation marks tbh. He won't sell it for £3600 but if he reduces it it might go and honestly some poor sod will try to make it go round a corner or summink and it will collapse. I don't want to sabotage his auction or anything but my moral compass is spinning. Don't you have to declare if it's an insurance write-off?
  10. Yeah AND it has has power mirrors, apparently. FFS. The nearly new suspension is actually barely drivable (unless it's been repaired which is possible). I'm genuinely worried for the buyer's safety.
  11. Hmmm, I was hoping I could have this conversation WITHOUT 15 people calling me a chav, but *sigh* - here it is: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200376126876
  12. Hello gang, I wrote off my Supe with damage to the suspension recently and I'm shocked to see it on Ebay right now for £3600. I filled in the V5 and sent it to the insurer and received payment, but I got a letter yesterday from the DVLA saying someone is applying for ownership and if I still have the V5 I can be prosecuted. There is no mention of the write-off in the Ebay listing. Is there underhandedness afoot? It's so sad to see my beloved car again, I had assumed it would be dismantled. How do these things work? KaiBosh
  13. Barry White's a legend. I was hoping to do a reverse image search but as it's a video still, it won't work. I reckon she looks like Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.
  14. Where did that picture come from Chris? Is it online somewhere?
  15. AND: Thanks for this advice. I know it's the right choice but it makes me feel a lot better to hear it from someone else. Cheers K
  16. I think the assessor said the same thing; that there would probably be parts which had been affected but didn't necessarily need replacing straight away and wouldn't be part of the repair. Fair play to him, he did ring to say it could go either way. I could certainly prove the car is technically worth more (extras totalling nine grand with receipts - though obviously these add precisely zero to its eBay value) but that would mean a repair and subsequent worry about what else had occurred. I can certainly replace the car to an equal standard with the valuation they gave and there are some bargains out there. I just thought it was odd that with most other cars there are two or three manufacturers/models to choose from which are similar and have merits in different areas etc but the Supra appears to be utterly peerless.
  17. Cheers Havard, I know this is usually down to personal choice but I've looked online and can't even find a car in the same class. Anything else that pulls as quick as a Supe costs five times as much. Supe it is then. AND it's a buyer's market
  18. I might have to mate. I think me eyesight must be going; gettin old now. Praps I should just buy a Volvo and be done with it
  19. They've offered 3500. I got a bit to add to it aswell but nothing I've seen so far holds any interest for me. Just wondered if anyone could suggest alternatives.
  20. I've not seen the bill but I think both rims were gouged, the tracking was knocked out, wishbones bent and I'm presuming the axle bent too. The bodywork was untouched from what I could see. Dunno much about this stuff really, it's the first time I've hit anything in 16 years. Thought I'd chuck a bit on top and get a TT maybe.
  21. It's a Jap manual NA. Repair comes to two and a half, they value it at three and a half, which is not bad, to be fair. I don't need a practical car, my missus drives the family-wagon and I cycle to work so it's just a toy though I do need backseats for occasional babyseat use. She's VERY keen for me not to get another sports bike so what else is there in this price range? It's all dross as far as I can make out.
  22. Looking at the figures and the current state of the market, it's looking like letting it go is the sensible option, despite what my heart is telling me. I'm still in mourning tbh but with things as they are, it's the right choice.
  23. So I went out Friday night and drove down a quiet, dark street and heard two loud bangs. Someone thought it would be a good idea to build a spit of kerb out into the road for no apparent reason and the streetlamps are broken so I didn't see it. I've hit it at about 15mph and popped the back tyre. The assessor rang today; I've bent the wishbones and written the car off FFS. Now my first instinct obviously is to get another Supra but I was just wondering if there was an alternative. I'll be honest, I like Supes for the power-to-price ratio and the stunning good looks. Are there any other motors that possess similar qualities? Or even come close?
  24. It is a bit of a squash and does depend a lot on how tall you are. I'm 6'2" and my seat touches the one behind. If I give quick lifts to people they cross their legs if they're sat behind me. My misses is 5'8" and she has to squash herself a bit to leave enough room for a few inches of legroom behind her seat. It's certainly possible to have one child in the back though, even for longish journeys.
