  1. Ah, that takes me back to the days of owning the GTO. It used to LOVE dying for some reason or another. The unexpected is about the only thing you can expect from the FTOs and GTOs.
  2. Brave, or foolish? Although, given the chance, who would turn down an opportunity to take the GTR round the Nurburgring in normal weather conditions, let alone with snow?
  3. Welcome aboard, Gems. I've made a similar switch to you; previously had a GTO, but now in the hunt for a Supra. Good luck with the search.
  4. Definitely the funniest moment of that particular show. Have been trying unsuccessfully for ages to get tickets to see him at the Hammersmith Apollo and the Bloomsbury Theatre. Is it wrong that I aim to be the victim of one of his many scything put-downs on the DVDs?
  5. I realise that not everybody is as interested in the Euro/GBP exchange rate - but that is suffering just as horribly. Working in the freight industry, we have to be right on top of the fuel costs (our drivers buy all their fuel on the continent where it is cheaper); as we also pay all our hauliers in Euros too, we find that our costs are increasing week by week, rather than month by month - and at a rate I've never experienced before. At the beginning of the year, the English pound was worth just over 1.50 Euros - the latest official exchange rate is 1.18 (I believe), and we are calculating costs at 1.20. The situation really is strangling the life out of the economy.
  6. Chris, you'd do well to get shot of Barclays. I did so as soon as they bought out the Woolwich (useless bankers replaced by more useless bankers), and went with First Direct. This week I got a bank statement from Barclays telling me that my account (which I had closed six months ago when I transferred) still had 1600 quid of my money in it. Livid doesn't come close, particularly as there's been no correspondence from Barclays since the confirmation of closure of my account. The silver lining is that I will have a very good Christmas with that money. But of course, it's the principle of the thing. We are expected to trust these people to take care of our money and receive/distribute it as we instruct them to; clearly not on this occasion.
  7. And some of those adrenalin junkies on scrambler bikes too. All good fun. Thought the Colin McRae tribute was particularly touching.
  8. Aw man - can still remember the sound of the V8s echoing around Wembley. I seem to remember the Audi R10 TDI "thing" that was the first diesel to win the Le Man 24 hrs? Wasn't that taken around the outside of the track, lighting up the tyres?
  9. I went last year, but was two rows from the back of the stadium - still a good view though. This year, I'm about halfway down, somewhere around the start/finish line. Looking forward to someone spinning another Aston Martin a la last year...

    Banksy's Pet Shop

I've got Banksy's book "Wall and Piece" - his innovation and inspiration are quite astounding.
  11. Good for you, Pabs. You're obviously set for the the more senior role, otherwise you wouldn't have been offered the position. Perhaps it might be an idea to "throw" yourself into the new job for the immediate future, get stuck into it; for now it might help to focus less on the other things going on in life.
  12. Two cows are in a field, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, it's a wonderful day. One cow says to the other, "Mooooooooo!!!" The second cow says, "you git - I was going to say that".

Pervs? I believe the politically correct term would be "dedicated enthusiasts"

    Help

Splendid advice. I thought the FWD-4WD step I took with the GTO was a learning curve.

    hi all!!!!

    Welcome aboard.
  16. A sad indictment of the way our so-called government are warping society with topsy-turvy notions and ideas with inverted or warped logic. A combination of the OTT Human Rights Act (and brigade), compensation culture and the urge to be politically correct and un-offensive is snuffing the life out of what was a perfectly acceptable place to live in. Just my tuppence worth.
  17. Seems to be a popular theme; maybe I will have to look up Whifbitz and JM Imports for a little tete-a-tete.
  18. I've heard nothing but a lot of good things about JM Imports, but it's a hell of a trek from Kent. I was hoping someone would fly the flag for Whifbitz; wouldn't mind a few unofficial testimonials about them, as they're in north London.
  19. Haha - makes me sound like I should have a big pointy hat on, with a "D" on the front...
  20. I figured someone would mention that eventually Every high performance motor will present its own problems - that's just the nature of the beast - but I'm not keen on having the car on the road for less than the rest of the crowd, and paying more (through repairs) for the "privilege"
  21. I've decided that I should start actively looking for a Supra now, having been on here for a few months; however I want to make sure that I didn't end up with a complete duffer, just for the sake of having it sooner rather than later. To my eternal shame, I bought the GTO on a whim and it subsequently caused me no end of heartache (not to mention wallet-ache). Compared to the Mitsy, my next car would have to be relatively bulletproof. Experience tells me to be extremely patient with the next purchase. The ongoing running costs would not be an issue, as you can associate those with all motors of that ilk - as long as they do not come hand-in-hand with ongoing repair costs I'm just wondering how long it took people on here, from the moment of deciding exactly what they were looking for in a Supra, to actually being passed the keys. How many Supras did you look at before going for your current one? Did you come across many (if any) potential bad 'uns during your search? Has anyone bought their motor without doing all the homework, then had their fingers burnt by it (a la me ) ?
  22. Just goes to show jealousy gets you nowhere these days
