keeping windows up (without the cable mechanism)
fruity_south replied to fruity_south's topic in mkiv Technical
the mechanism has two cables going into it. one which winds it down the other winds it up and both under tension. im not sure how close the window is to the rail and i think the bottom of the window is actually higher then the access area. will have another look though at that idea. i wondered if maybe i should wedge small amount of timber in there and drill that to the rail. -
Hi all, So stumbled across a problem whilst in the middle of rebuilding the supra for what i think is the 4th and final time, this time purely for drag racing. on stripping the interior i removed the little mechanism which winds the windows up and down not realizing that by doing so the windows would roll down and obviously not go back up as not under the tension of the cable. i dont need the windows to roll up and down and just need to get it into the up position and stay there! has anyone any ideas? i will be going lexan at some point but not at this time as getting the correct wheels is more of a priority over replacing the glass windows with lexan. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

so another question. i have found some 15 inch 5x114.3 7J wheels on ebay. these would be a good size for the rear wouldnt it? -
Wheels and tire combo for drag racing.

thanks, i shall have a look around. i dont mind spending the money if i can get a good set up. wheels and tires i have read are one of the most important aspects of drag racing to get right so should have the money invested in them. -
Hi all, i want to change my wheel and tire set up for some drag racing on my supra. these can be ones not for road use. slim on the front, wider on the rear is ideal. currently running UK spec brakes on front and J spec on rear. i believe i can get a 15 inch rim on the rear with big tires with J spec brakes. im struggling to work out the offsets etc. wheels are not my strong point.

Very little to update on. Been so tied up with getting the new house planning through the local council. Anyway dropped the old fuel tank out and got a new fuel cell in position in the boot though not yet bolted it down. Also have the new inline fuel pump and filter sitting pretty. Photos will follow when all installed. And here is a pic of the turbo being offered up for the first time and as I expected its tight! Going to have to relocate fuse box. Seeing as I have deleted the top glove box I'm thinking I could knock up some form of fuse/relay box to sit in its place on some carbon.

That's better then just a diagram. the explanation is great cheers. I have actually removed the tank yesterday in preparation for a fuel cell. knowing this just makes it so much easier when re connecting to the old lines. you star!
-
Hi, does anyone know of a diagram anywhere showing which pipes on top of the fuel tank going where which they can post or forward me to. Ta

Does anyone know at what ohms the fuel level sends at empty and at full to the gauge ?

Only a very small update. But here is the SARD R2D2 bov which I got from eBay for the grand total of £7.40 including postage middle of last year. guy had listed it as Pulsar gtr valve, god knows how I came across it and was the only bidder. £4.00 of that was postage! Now I know many are thinking why do pipe work before actually fitting the turbo but it's purely due to needing to drive the car to the new workshop and wanting to make sure that's doable with as much of it ready for the completes turbo set up as possible.

i do love my TOM's Body kit, mainly because its the only one i have ever seen. however i have toyed with going standard bumpers and skirts, purely because i am fed up with repairing the front bumper due to englands poor roads.

length of a coilover or standard suspension
fruity_south replied to fruity_south's topic in Supra Chat
Yea that's fine either measurement will do. Don't ask why though I have no idea what he's up to! -
hi all. a friend of mine is after the measurement from the top of the suspension mount to the middle of the bottom mounting hole of either aftermarket coilovers or standard suspension. has anyone got any kicking about they could measure up for me. thanks is advance.
-
First trial fit. Am going to have to knock up a bracket to hold it up slightly either on the MAF or on the pipe which will have the bov on. It's putting a bit of stress on the 90 degree pipe as it sits now

thanks guys. I'm on lextreme which has been more then helpful over the years

Following on from my thread "my v8 supra build" at the end of last years show season I started working on getting it ready for a turbo build and took a new approach to how it would look etc. the bodywork will stay very much the same but will be respray we in a satin grey. The interior has had a few changed already but awaiting getting some bits flocked at some stage. This excluded some new gauges in a set up where the stereo was. And some panels being replaced with carbon fibre. Pictures will follow at a later stage. Also included removing rear seats and boarding it the rear out for battery relocation. Again pics to follow. Due to a change in circumstances and looking at building a bigger and better house with triple garage with lifting ramps, development on the supra has been slow this year so far as allot of the money has been tied up elsewhere including the building of a this workshop However recently I started doing a few more bits. This included deleting the abs and power steering, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and creating a few bits including this adapter for the maf sensor This was my first attempt at alloy welding and pretty pleased with it. Here is a picture of it all connected up with the current air filter attached which will be replaced with pipe work for the intercooler but for now means it can still be run NA And to finish off the purchase of a holset HX40 turbocharger. So making a slow start again.

Worth a try

excellent, all you need now is the remote bottle opener I have in the for sale section lol

Sorry Alex for not getting back to you sooner on this. I'm currently using a universal pipercross one. It's the only one I have found which doesn't make the car "boggy". On doing the TT conversion as well next year I'll be adding a second one
-
Thanks Chris, I have built the car purely to show that the conversion could be done without huge exspense and could remember being laughed at when i first said i was doing it. Now theres more V8s popping up which is great to see. The car is being built to A, look great at shows, and B for a bit of drag action, but certainly in no competive level, just for fun, (im not looking at breaking records). As my battery is now in a better location for weight distribution i was thinking that a fuel cell would both save weight and give me better C of G, like you say it would be higher which i believe is what would be better suited to dragging. One of my mains reasons for doing it though is because i think they look just damn good! and see little need for such a big tank under the car for the miles it does. obviously theres people who are going to disagree but i do appriciate the input.

Hi all, Last night i started putting together a list of bits and pieces to get to start my TT conversion on my v8 engine. Its long overdue but i have been tied up with trying to sort out planning permission for my new workshop. One of the things i have been thinking about is adding a fuel cell, probably 20-30lt. i was just wondering how others have fitted theirs, if there are any legalities i need to consider etc. it doesn't make it onto track, but has been played with at Pod. I have no rear seats and the rear of the car has been boarded out to house the battery and a nitrous bottle which can be altered slightly to house the cell as well. I'm thinking cell one side of the wheel well and the nitrous bottle the other. thanks in advanced guys.

How long has it taken you to finish your supra????
fruity_south replied to fruity_south's topic in Supra Chat
Some really interesting comment on here. I use to spend every waking minute at home and at work on the forum when I first started. And when not doing that I was in the workshop doing something to the car -

Matt that's great! I have said I have finished to my mises a number of times, but just one more job turns into loads. What about loosing interest? Do any of you find yourself not doing any for ages?
