  1. So, where do you guys all go garage wise? I'd love to know of a supra-friendly mechanic in the Notts area, otherwise I'll just go to David Drew in Nottingham I guess.
  2. Oh, is it infrared, just found out for anyone who is bothered. Found via Here and then Here Looks like its used to capture license plates, not sure what purpose for, its not a speed camera AFAIK though.
  3. Whats that white bit that looks like loads of LEDs on the back right hand (maybe sometimes left hand?) of police estate cars. Not sure if its a region-specific gizmo, if it is, I'm talking Nottinghamshire. Can;t find any pics, so sorry about that! Its quite small, looks like a big white toilet tube pointing forwards with LEDs in, might be an infra-red camera? Wondering, went past a police car in the opposite direction today, probably doing 35 in a 30, which I doubt would register as much over 30 at all anyway, plus I've wondered this before as well...
  4. Hmm ok, pretty sure they are the UK spec brakes like you said, thats what I've heard anyway. I'll check the pads and all that and if everything is fine I'll do what you guys reckon By the way, what difference does changing the cylinder make? Never done that before
  5. Just curious, whats this about next years tax? I've been reading around on the car tax increases and apparently if your car was registered before the CO2 testing (April 2001 was it?) then your gonna pay £15 more per year when the tax goes up. Having said that, all the reports seem so conflicting because of all the damn changes, so anyway - can anyone enlighten me as to whats so bad about next years road tax? Am I wrong with what I've said above? cheers!
  6. Hey, yeh sorry, I forgot to mention I've got the bigger brakes, they look all fancy and have the supra logo on (nice technical description there ), the car I bought is here, so you can see pics of the brakes: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=152568 One thing I was thinking when I was describing the Octavia's brakes were that they were very snappy, I'm not talking that they were amazing if you slammed your foot on them, but they were mad when you just feathered them. Assuming my brakes didn't have anything wrong with them, what would your first change be to get them better? Pads, or things like cylinders or lines? cheers!
  7. Hey all, only recently got the supe so I don't know what to expect from the brakes, but having read that Supe's are meant to have really good brakes, I'm wondering if mine are up to scratch, as they don't seem to good to me... The reason I'm coming to see them as a bit bad are: 1 - Last week I've been driving my girlfriends dads Skoda Octavia, and crikey the brakes in that are incredible, slightly too much pressure and you are through the windscreen! Also my past job had me using hire cars, and all of them seemed to have fantastic brakes, new Clio's I remember were one, they were sharp as anything! I know the cars were quite new which obviously helps a lot, but the Octavia is at least 2 years old so its not as if the consumable brake parts are so new that they seem better than they otherwise would be, are am I wrong? 2 - holding the car still when in drive (with the auto box) when at a fast idle, or when the aircon is on, seems to take quite a lot of force, more than I would expect... Maybe I'm being too picky, I'm not sure - just wanted to get peoples thoughts, how responsive should the brakes be? How are they when compared to newer cars? If I'm expecting too much from them now, what would the route to making them better be? Cheers guys
  8. out of interest, how much are belts new? anyone know?
  9. You love it, its a blast from the past
  10. I seem to be lucky, I bought mine with the pure sport mats in, one of the abdges has fallen off though, I'm considering gluing it back on with evostick, anyone done anything similar? Also they are cream so considering dying them black....
  11. Anyone know of anyone decent garages in the Nottingham area? Would be nice to have someone with Supra specific knowledge I guess
  12. Lets make it an event and get it moved back I didnt notice the regionals were for events only, I'm very sorry
  13. I'm pretty slow typing, but I get there.... you never know, craig may still be living with this frustrating problem, by now he may have no hair whatsoever!
  14. I have this problem...I used some furniture polish on them which has helped, did that after I tried to look at the mechanism, couldnt get it, felt like I was bredking the plastic, then lots 2 of the clips to reattach! doh! The furniture polish has helped quite a bit actually, its still not ideal, though 2 mecahnics have said its safe, just annoying.
  15. yeh, nasty nasty fuel! one thing I'm confused about, I read its an 80 litre tank, I got BP Ultimate @ £1.22 I think it was earlier, so that means that 80 * 1.22 = £97.60, so very nearly £100! yet most people fill up with about £80, I know the tank wont be totally empty, but not far off, the warning light comes on at 10 litres roughly...the tank prob isn't 80 exact I guess. Also, another question, in general do the fuel guages on cars normally go down in a linear way, some seem to go slow for the first half and fast for the last half, or that could just be my brain
  16. I've just bought my supe, 46k - I dunno if its had the cambelt changed as the service history is in japanese what period are you meant to change them at? Would be interested to know how much your tyres cost, as you'll need the same as me I reckon

    newbie!!

welcome mate, just bought a TT auto myself, after hearing 'you won't be disappointed' from everyone, let me add to that last - you won't be disappointed! When I spoke to someone before I bought it, someone who didn't have a supe that was, they say "your crazy buying an auto, especially if its in a sports car, I've never have one" but I love it, I think I kinda like it more than a manual. I'm sure at times it might get a bit boring vs a manual but as soon as you put the peddle down you won't care
  18. Plus, still getting used to its fuel usage, I almost whince every time I give it some gas :S but when the feel how fast it goes forward, it slightly alleviates the pain
  19. Cheers guys, I am really pleased, cost me the maximum of my budget but I realised it was absolutely amazing when I saw it the first time, and reasiled it had been absolutely cherised by chris, the past owner. Hats off to him, he seems to have really looked after it. When I drove it on a country road today I was almost thinking I shouldn't be doing this, it will be more likely to get stonechips!

  21. Not a new member, but just bought my first supe! Bought it from boot3yz, on this thread. Just had the first weekend with it, and (as well as getting used to it pissing its fuel away, where does it all go?! ) its been pretty damn amazing! Its crazy having that much power, even when not flooring it...just give it a nudge and its off I'm not used to a car where I have to actually moderate my foot that much, you get the feeling with the supe if you give it a bit too much on the peddle you'll be ending up off the road, probably backwards...so yeh gotta take it careful, I drive like a grandad most the time anyway So, check out the thread at the top for pics, or just see below for one of the ones booty posted
  22. I've just bought a TT and considering a trip from Nottingham to Essex, should I go in the Supe or take a more conservative car? I just fuelled up, cost £70, BP Ultimate, didn't let it click as that was the first time fuelling the supe and my jaw was dropping! The warning light had been on for at least 20 miles or so though I think, so I was prob well into the warning (book says 10 litres (roughly) is left when the light comes on). What looks odd from this thread is that NA's dont seem to use much less than TT's...if any less whatsoever! All depends on driving habits though I guess Fuel might cost lots, but jeeeez they are fast :D:D:D first time I put my foot down I was like 'bloody hell!'
