  1. I wish you all the best with your search We had a good chat about this, you seem a genuine guy and don’t deserve to be caught out. Try not to let your heart rule your head with this one. It is a sellers market and they know it. 25K is a lot of money to part with and if something seems too good to be true it probably is. Taking everything in to consideration the one question you need to be asking yourself is; does this look like a well cared for example considering it has only done 40,000 miles? Whatever you chose be sure to start a thread and get some pictures up.
  2. I don’t think anyone was being picky about surface rust, we were suggesting that further investigation of the areas mentioned was needed along with substantial evidence to back up what the seller was saying about the car. This was to try and save the OP a wasted journey or possibly getting stung. As I said in an earlier post, the skirts and spats haven’t been removed so no one knows if the bodywork underneath is rotten or not. What is the cars history? By this I mean provable documented history on paper, ideally a folder of receipts. Has the OP seen any? Is there any? Does that car look like it’s done 40,000 miles? To quote the OP So he has no way of proving any history prior to the current owner. You really believe after seeing those photos that the car hasn’t seen salty roads?! Which is it? I find this hard to believe. Surely this info could be obtained with the logbook, failing that something like Facebook. The world is a very small place now. Still no word from the seller of which specialist this was. That doesn’t sound at all dodgy. PS Ignore me, i’m just a cynical old fart
  3. I am known to be a particularly picky tw@t at times, I put it down to the diagnosed OCD That said I still feel the one I linked to in my other post is worth a look first and is potentially a better buy.
  4. If you want a good solid base to start from look for a car with very good documented history. If you want an investment, import one from Japan with as little mileage as possible and don’t drive it.
  5. Which Supra specialist has the car been taken to? Have you spoken to them to confirm what the seller is saying? It might just be me but you sound like you have already made up your mind about this car. You seem to be ignoring specific basic questions and realistically how hard can it be to contact the previous owner these days or his “mother”. If it was me I wouldn’t be paying out 25K on an unseen car end of. If there is no friendship involved this is purely a business transaction. The skirts and spats haven’t been removed so how do you know the bodywork underneath isn’t rotten? My advice is to get a through independent inspection carried out on the car. Make sure they include a compression and leakdown test. On top of the above I would want videos with good lighting done in the dry of the underside of the car, the outside of the car, cold start, engine running, exhaust with someone revving the car. I assume you have read the PDF here - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?67644-What-to-check-when-buying-a-Supra Any noise or excessive wear on the rear suspension components due to the wheel offset and rubber band stretched tyres? What is the cars history? By this I mean provable documented history on paper, ideally a folder of receipts. Have you seen any? Is there any? Any maintenance been carried out on the car? Going with the above you want recipes showing mileage, service history, fluids and parts used et cetera. Have you looked at the car I linked to in my other post?
  6. If you can’t then take any previous owner history with a pinch of salt unless you have documented proof. 25K is a lot of money and unfortunately it’s a sellers market. I can understand you want to get one ASAP but try not to be so eager to part with your money. Forum owned car, 12 years one owner. It’s worth a serious look. The 4K saving would easily change the look of the car if it wasn’t to your liking. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?334283-1996-Facelift-TT6-Gunmetal-440bhp Also get a video of the complete underside, photos only tell you what the seller wants to tell you. Any videos of the car starting from cold?
  7. Can you contact the original owner who now lives in Canada?
  8. So you didn’t take the photos? If you are buying unseen I would highly recommend getting an independent inspection done by a reliable trustworthy company. I would want the skirts and spats off to check the body work underneath. What is the cars history? Any paperwork on the car? Any maintenance carried out on the car? What parts have been used? OEM or cheap copies? How long has it been in Ireland? Have a good poke around these areas with a screwdriver then get some high res photos. E2A Is the seller a friend?
  9. Looks like there is a small amount of damage to the sills from improper jacking. Most have it and it’s a relatively easy fix. Any photos with the OEM skirts and spats off?
  10. ^ 25K for a single turbo 6 speed seems very low.
  11. Might be worth mentioning which engine these came from as the pipe are different for a non-VVT-I.
  12. Jeez, it’s only a bit of banter. If you think it’s bad now you should have been on here years ago! If you can’t stand the heat... That will do it, one thing members on here hate more than anything is someone lying to dupe an unsuspecting buyer. He’s not the only one to try it on and won’t be the last I am sure. As you say, you went into this with your eyes wide open so knew what to expect. Great find, good buy and hopefully she will serve you well for years to come. BPU is great
  13. She looks like a great base for a project, what are you plans? What did you mean by it and the owner had had a bad time on the forum?
  14. Looks like a great piece of kit, god knows how you remember which button does what at WOT.
  15. Speak to Swampy (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/member.php?6850-Swampy442) on here, he will be able to give you a clear idea of what needs to be done.
  16. Is she related to Mrs. Palmer with five daughters?
  17. You lost your virginity at the age of 10?! Were you never introduced to Lego?
  18. Loads of info to plagiarise from Toyota UK here - http://blog.toyota.co.uk/history-of-the-toyota-supra
  19. I’d wait for Swampy to reply, he will have a better idea of fitment than I do
  20. It looks to be in stock here - https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/1727146020 When you add to basket and checkout they usually give you an option to check stock before taking payment. Chose this option.
  21. Something that will be getting addressed in the not too distant future. You could always try tappatalk if you are on a phone or tablet. I know the resolution hasn’t helped but wow that looks rough.
