UFO is an initialism and therefore the plural is UFOs.

Club meet at Wheels in motion "knowledge day meet/dyno day" (Sunday 9th May)
GJD replied to JamieP's topic in Supra Chat
Pretty sure I'm going to keep the second cat in Rob, but I'm holding on to the decat pipe for now in case I change my mind... Ibrar did a superb job refurb'ing the wheels. I think it looks good on both, but it is a bit more comfortable on the pothole-ridden B roads with the stock wheels. I'll be selling the 19s just as soon as I remember to take some photos. I'll see if anyone wants them here first before sticking them on ebay. -
Yep. Really good day. Good to meet some more people here. Gavin

Nearly cost me my place at the top of the list

I thought I won Thanks for putting this list together Homer.

334 flywheel (277 roadwheels) with 1st decat and everything else stock Rob. It was a very noticeable change when I put the 2nd cat in so I wasn't really expecting that much. -

Yep, that's clear. Wheels and tyres on each axle will match, it's just the front pair might be different from the rear pair. Thanks very much Graham.
-
Any problems presenting for the test with stock wheels on the front and my 19s on the back? Tyres will all be OK.

The tiptronic steering wheel buttons allow you to select a range of gears. "D range" and the car will use all four gears, "3 range" and the car uses 1st, 2nd, 3rd but not 4th (the overdrive), "2 range" and it uses 1st and 2nd only, "L range" holds it in first. I usually use it on the twisties to prevent the car from changing up when I lift off, or to have a lower gear already engaged before I accelerate out of a bend or overtake. Never quite got my head around manu for the brief period I had one so I'm not sure if it's the same as that. As far as I know it's the same gearbox as less awesome autos , with the same ratios, just different ways of controlling it.
-
Shows what I know! Thanks chaps .
-
Age and facelift might be a factor too. If the gibbon who usually occupies the passenger seat insists that want an airbag as well as you getting one, you need a facelift, which means import.
-
Tiptronics don't have the same overdrive on/off button as other autos. It would be redundant since you can achieve the same thing with the tiptronicness.

Not too worried if I don't get to dyno. It's not like I've got any performance mods so I'm not competing in the peeing up the wall contest - just interested to see how many of the original horses are still there. I'll definitely come if I'm free, just not sure if I can make that day yet. -

Is it too late to go down as a maybe - for the day and for the dyno? I'll probably know one way or the other by the end of this week. I think I read in another thread that there can be problems dyno'ing tiptronics so I'll have to look into that... -
I'm no fan of huge companies whingeing about loss of earnings when they aren't losing any earnings. But I don't have a problem with thieves getting punished either. There's seems to be a major incosistency that worries me though. On the one hand there's the idea of cutting people off being an appropriate punishment for certain crimes. On the other hand there's the idea that the internet could become such an important part of an individual's ability to function in society - communication, news, shopping, voting - that it merits government intervention to help to ensure fast broadband is available to everyone, even in the remotest areas. If the internet is potentially that vital, and I think it is, cutting it off should be considered as serious a punishment as cutting off someone's electricity supply. The more the internet becomes a necessary part of life, the more serious the offence needs to be for the punishment to fit the crime. I don't think that point's been acknowledged at all.

I bet they do! Anything exotic or very expensive like that must be very easy for the insurance industry to identify and treat as a whole different level of risk. One obvious way of keeping prices low for the millions of ordinary cars must be to try and spread the risk on very expensive and unusual cars more across just the owners of those kind of cars than across everybody. I thought that, but apparently 75% of what the car insurance industry pays out is for damage to the insured's own vehicle. That 75% includes things like uninsured drivers and car park/hit and run type incidents, where it's not your fault but there's nobody else to claim against.

Did you try Garage Whifbitz? http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=21 They sorted me out recently with exactly the same thing.
-
Brilliant . I want to have that much time on my hands! Not sure that's what I'd do with it though...
-
Glad you got out of it OK. I wonder whether, since you were all joining the motorway, that's a time when it might be worth a little bit more caution than normal since perhaps it's quite a likely point for one HGV to want to overtake the other as they come onto a faster, multi-lane road. I'm just thinking of things like making sure you're definitely back far enough that he can see you in his mirrors, perhaps moving out and closing gently before coming past to be sure he's had time to see you positioning to overtake. Wasn't a foreign (i.e. left-hand drive) lorry was it - with a bit more of a blind spot for you to disappear into? Maybe he was having a brown pants moment too and decided he'd calm down a bit before trying to overtake again!
