  1. Leett, That's the first time I've seen those arches on a Supe and thought 'those are nice'!
  2. Sorry, but this is wrong. The insurers could refuse to pay out to the insured, but they CANNOT get out of their 3rd party obligations. If they deem the actions of the insured to be against a particular clause such as the drink-drive clause, they MUST pay out any claim by a third party, they can refuse to pay out to the insured for their damages but they can then recover the 3rd party claim from the insured through the courts. But they can't avoid paying out a valid 3rd party claim. So feel free to mention the texting to the Police.
  3. Right indeed. Nor was it Norfolk!
  4. Difficult, but the first of these is probably my favourite from my recent pics. The second one is probably my favourite of the Supe in a scenic setting.
  5. I'm in Norwich. Bring them round and give me a call in a week. I'll tell you what you should have done with them!!!
  6. Really sorry to hear this Ernie. The car was immaculate. I even drove it the day that pic was taken and as you say it was a masterpiece of a Supra. Like every one else is saying, at least you're still here. Not sure you'll easily find another UK car with 30-something thousand miles on it though. I have some nice pics of it here that I'll post. There was something about the light that day at Holywood that made the silver look better than I've ever seen it. Maybe it was just the colour of your car. Re. the 'phone records. Your only chance is that she had been texting back and forward to someone for a while. If she was mid text on her first message, and hadn't pressed 'Send', then the records won't show anything. Fingers crossed for you. I'd still mention it in your statement though. That will be reason enough for the Police to be able to look into it. Make sure you get the car back. With a write-off like that, you'll probably have to agree to wait for your full pay-out until you have the shell crushed. This happened with me a couple of years ago. They paid me half of the money and I didn't get the other half until I produced a certificate of destruction. They had to be sure that the car never went on the road again. It also gives you a increases your options because you can take a lower offer on the car and still make more money by selling some of the parts than you would by holding out for an extra grand or two from the insurance claim. Let me know if there's anything we can do here for you. Keep us up to date with how you are getting on anyway. Brian and Angie.
  7. Not sure we'll make it to be honest as we don't have alot of time this weekend. This will add about 2 hours for us which will mean committing a large part of the day. Sorry....
  8. You don't have to go through the town, Ian. There's a link to a map on page 1 of this thread. It might be easier to go down the A140, Ipswich road. Then you don't have to worry about skirting around Bury.
  9. Yup,you're not alone. Gets especially hot if it's black too!! Angies silver aerotop she used to have got hot, but not THIS hot!
  10. There should be support groups for people like us!!
  11. I have 2 sets of sotck turbos sitting on the shelf. One set off my write off that have been bagged up for about a year and a half. Another set I took off just a couple of months ago when I switched to hybrids. If you need a set just let me know.
  12. Yep, basic to us who have done this sort of thing regularly in the past, but as I found out a few weeks ago, there are quite a few people on here who have never carried out any sort of compression test before. It also wasn't mentioned that a wet compression test had been attempted on this engine and so I thought it was worth suggesting just in case it hadn't been thought of before now.
  13. Have you re-done the compression test with a dribble of oil in each bore? If the compression jumps up you'll know that there is damage to the bores/rings. If it stays pretty much the same then you'll know all the compression loss is via the head. Just a thought....
  14. Is that a '63? Can't see the rear window to tell from that angle. I have a friend in the States with a '63. Worth alot of money these days.
  15. I owned a '75 'vette a few years ago. The one in the link should be a 350cui engine if it is an L82. (5.7 litre, NOT 7.4!) It's also in the anniversary Indy Pace Car colours for that year. It would have originally come with the decal kit for the doors too. If you're thinking of getting it, try to make sure the seller has the decals for it as it all helps with the resale value later. Don't expect handling or luxury from it though. After driving a Supra for a while it will feel very agricultural! I did love mine and a few years later when a mate wanted to buy one I went along with him. It was only after getting in it and driving down the road that I started noticing all the little rattles and 'faults' and started thinking, 'oh yeah, mine used to do that!' From then on, I figured I could no longer live with an old one any more. They can cost alot to sort out suspension etc as it always rusts away in this country. Engine is cheap for bits if you get the 350. Speak to Ultimate Spares of America in Norfolk if you have Q's about running costs. Martin or Ray have both owned many 'vettes in teh past and should be able to advise you. Corvette Kingdom are also very knowledgable and do alot of restoration work. Clairmont Corvette are ok at selling the cars, but are very expensive for work to be done. Bauer Millet in Manchester are another large company like Clairmont where the service isn't as personal as smaller companies like Corvette Kingdom. Drive as many as you can and you'll soon start to recognise a good one and get a feel for the cars. The car you linkled to seems cheap to me. Might be worth a look, but look very carefully as they are usually cheap for a reason. If it is a 4-speed manual, then get it anyway as there was only about 114 made in the Pace Car Trim from what I remember! Although I wouldn't have an old one any more, I would have a C5 or C6 perhaps!
  16. Looks like vomit. Very high quality and well done vomit, but vomit.
  17. I know you have at least 2 bits of one of our (that's Angie and me) cars on yours!
  18. If you find one, please let me know about it as I'm off there next month.
  19. Yeah, the valve stem seals are bloating into gelatinous blobs. They'll fall apart in a few days now! (joking, hopefully!)
  20. Hey Digsy - you've been keeping this one under your hat. Pretty impressive that is!
