  1. If I had more time I'd drag up the posts from nearly 5 years ago when this first happened. It was Aviva (Used to be Norwich Union) who developed this system and called the product 'Pay as you Drive'. The purpose was to target young drivers with it to be able to reduce premiums for them (by reducing risk) and hopefully hoover up the market of new/young drivers who were sensible enough to say that they could behave themselves and have the box in the car monitoring their driving habits to prove it. Seriously guys - this really is yesterdays news!
  2. In the News section, there was a message explaining that the game uses network connection even when playing the game 'normally' - i.e. when you wouldn't expect it to require anything from the network. As the game has just been released, they said they were experiencing a massive amount of traffic on their servers and this was the cause of the painfully slow response form the game when going from one screen to another. They are taking steps to try to fix this issue. I noticed it was much better last night than on Wednesday night. Apparently the damage model will be being improved in the coming weeks too. I've seen damage on a new Camaro I was driving at Monza on Wednesday night - nothing too serious, bumper and bonnet damage from when I ran into the back of a Viper in the wet. So far I don't see it as a huge step up from prologue, but the physics is definitely better and the differences between cars that in the past may have behaved similar to each other can now be quite noticeable. Road surfaces can make quite a difference too. Haven't had too much opportunity to get very far in it yet, but the more time I spend on it the better it seems to get....
  3. Checks done through CreditExpert.co.uk (which is part of experian) have no effect on your credit history.
  4. I'm guessing that online updates will increase the number of cars that have in-car views etc as time goes by. Pick my copy up this evening on the way home from work.
  5. If I were you I'd sign up to creditexpert.co.uk so you can keep tabs on your credit accounts/ratings etc. If you've given them your date of birth etc they can be used to get credit in your name. A couple of years back I got a letter through the door from Halifax saying 'Welcome to your new online saver account'. I hadn't applied for one, so got in touch with the bank who said I'd have to come in with passport etc etc if I wanted to get the account closed. Then on CrediExpert, I got notification that I'd applied for credit with 3G UK - someone had tried to take out two 18 month mobile phone airtime contracts in my name. Fortunately, they had got my date of birth wrong and 3G UK had asked them for more proof of ID before handing over the phones. Took me a few days of running around trying to clear up the mess, but now I'm pretty careful about where my details go and I keep a close eye on my credit records. CreditExpert membership is about 6.99 a month, but in my book, it's well worth it.
  6. Have you seen the 'Dinky Trailer'? glMsRBLC5g8
  7. That's what I thought. Why should Petrov give way to Alonso - or anyone else who he was ahead of? Alonso is a bit self obsessed, I think. (As if we didn't already know that anyway!)
  8. This made me laugh! M8PAuvxCZuM
  9. Exactly. The alternative is for the government to use the 'big stick' approach only. Then they would increase even more the road tax for higher polluting cars, but still charge, say £235 a year for 'eco-friendly' (that should really say 'slightly less eco-damaging') cars. But if they did that, there really wouldn't be much of an incentive for people to make a change. At least we're being offered an reward and not a punishment to help clean things up.
  10. That's not right. If all combinations of the 6 numbers are sold once each, then there would be 246,820 permutations of any 3 numbers available.
  11. Why did he want the rear of it to look like it was wearing a pair of Elton John's sunglasses??? Truly hideous! http://laughterizer.weebly.com/uploads/5/0/9/8/5098219/9352745.jpg?616
  12. This was me last night. (Not a mask - Angie did the makeup - took over 2 hours!)
  13. Why would they 'batter' their eyelids? I mean, I've heard of battering Mars Bars, but I don't think anyone had even thought of Mars Bars back then either. Interesting idea though...
  14. Despite it not being a claim, it still counts as an accident. They ask if you have had any accidents or claims in the last x years. They also want to know about any accident that wasn't your fault, although it's highly unlikely they'd add any loading to your premium because of it.
  15. He was talking about Toyota figures. £900 isn't expensive at all for HG change if it's a TT. When I did one about 4 or 5 years back, I spent somewhere close to £300 on oem gaskets/seals/new head bolts alone. From memory, I think Toyota charged something just over £100 for the headbolts. And it was a pig of a job to do.

    So Funny

Bound to be a repost, but after seeing this on the tv earlier in the week, I can't resist posting it for anyone who missed it. Just cracks me up every time! z2BgjH_CtIA
  17. I wonder if it took him a long to get it all up and running as it has for Polyphony to do the same with GT5? (runs for cover...)
  18. Both I and the Mrs do this also with a Tesco credit card. Tesco points are excellent! If you exchange them for vouchers with other 'participating' companies, they're usually worth 4X their face value. For example - when we go to Europe each summer, I can exchange £35 worth of Tesco Reward Points for £140 of vouchers with Eurotunnel. Usually the fare is about £5 more than that, so I pay the balance using my (Tesco) credit card. Paying ANY of the fare on a credit card - even £1 - means that if anything goes wrong with the purchase, the Credit Card company MUST insure the it. So, if I buy a package holiday (or anything else) and the company goes bust or anything else goes wrong with the purchase then I'm insured. Earlier this year we had about £800 worth in tesco reward points. We'll often get vouchers for restaurants to, so £10 will get us £40 off a meal out once every couple of months. The other thing which has already been said, is that while you're spending money on a credit card, you're spending the banks money. If the account gets hacked, I can still use my own cash to get by until they sort it out. If that were to happen to my debit card, I might have to get by for weeks with my account being frozen, debit card cancelled and no cash in my account to pay the bills while they sort the mess out. And yes, I pay the credit card bill in full every month too.
  19. So you're not allowed to try to outbrake someone else into a corner? Don't think so. If that was the case and overtaking was only allowed outside of a certain distance from each corner on the track, then we'd be watching even more processional races than we've seen at times in the past. Webber managed to brake enough to make the corner without going wide. When both of them arrived in the corner, Lewis was not clearly in front and turned in. I've admired Hamilton's driving for a while, and defended Lewis many times in the past. That's not to say I'm against him here - I'm not. He couldn't see Mark in his blindspot and wasn't expecting him to still be alongside, so understandably turned in. That's why I think it's simply a racing incident. It seems the stewards and Martin Brundle thought the same.
  20. But we don't know just how hard Mark was already braking. I'd presume that as they tend to drive right on the limit, he was braking as hard as he could without locking up. In which case, what else could he do to get out of Lewis' way? Racing incident IMHO
  21. Not sure what Shimano officially advise for their 9 and 10 speed chains, but I use powerlinks on a 9-speed chain on my mtb without any problems whatsoever. Just another thing I thought of in response to the OP's question about chain maintenance - it's worth remembering if you ever lube your chain with anything in an aerosol can, when you spray the chain, don't ever point the spray inwards, towards the centre of the rear wheel. If you do this, you can end up getting some of the spray onto the brake disc on the opposite side of the wheel. Just a few revolutions of the disc when it's got lubricant on it can contaminate your brake pads enough that you'll have to replace them. (As well as having to thoroughly clean the disc) Just worth remembering!
  22. I don't have a pic to hand of my mtb, but it's pretty much as clean as the one in the above pic. But I know I'm a bit more obsessive than most....
