Ask the court if it makes a difference that you sneezed as you approached the roundabout. (Ask Class One)
  5. Insurance companies can (and do) apply many policies that are not necessarily LAW. i.e. they can impose conditions to your policy under which they could refuse to pay out a claim to you. (But not a 3rd party claim) Re. the offence of Quitting, the policy when I was in the Police here in Norfolk was always that they recommended we give a verbal warning for leaving the engine runing if the parking brake was applied. However, if the engine was running AND the parking brake off - prosecute.
  6. Didn't we have a discussion recently about racist jokes??? Aw bollocks, we're not that easily offended. (Lucky for you!)

  9. First thing I would do would be to call the council and ask them. No need to give them your details, just say you're thinking about starting a business, no firm plans etc. and are gathering startup info.

    Rear-ended

Get it all checked out behind that bumper too. If he hit you fairly hard you're likely to have further damage that you can't see.
  11. Yep, as stated, the cruise control is set at factory to operate between 40kph and 110kph. Even when delimited and converted to mph, unless you feed the cruise unit the converted mph signal that goes has been routed to the speedo and ECU, the cruise unit will still be reading a non-converted kph signal. Feed it the right signal and you're sorted.
  12. Well that would be because I haven't had much time on here in the last week and missed the relevant thread, AND I was interested in getting hold of a UK 6-speed at a good price. And I guess because I was a little suspicious and wasn't going to part with cash without first checking it out. See? T'aint rocket science!
  13. "Depends on the search company you use"?? I'd like to check this one out further. HPI info. is supplied by insurance companies, so is normally pretty reliable.
  14. You obviously live in a posh area with a better quality of burnt out car!
  15. Ermm...because it wouldn't bother me too much to write it off again?? But as I say it would have to be alot cheaper that nearly 7k! I wouldn't ever want to trust a write-off with mine or my wifes' life. You never know where it's weak until it takes a good hit. Then you might find it falls apart. Don't want to put that to the test on the public road!
  16. Almost bought this for Angie just now as she is looking for a TT Manual. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4615022556&fromMakeTrack=true There is NO info on the advert saying ANYTHING about any bad history/damage etc. So I thought I'd pay £6.99 for the ebay vehicle status report. Read it and weep! Wondered why it was sooooo cheap for a UK manual. Might make a good track day car, but would need to be cheaper than that. 19. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/hot/office-attachments/ It's about the 3rd video down the list. Hilarious!
  20. Is this the one you mean? This one was from Tescos. (The cake - not Alex!) Yeah, sorry , Alex. The only pic I had of the cake had you in it!
  21. Let's just clear up the confusion that there appears to be here. "Dangerous Driving" is different in law from "Careless Driving". Careless is just that. Not necessarily intentional, just careless. Dangerous is when someone knows their actions are dangerous but carries on regardless. (Like the old offence of 'Reckles' driving) Causing death by careless driving is not currently a specifically defined offence in law, but causing death by dangerous driving is. Although in this case a person was killed, the driver can only be prosecuted for careless driving. The consequences of the drivers actions are not part of the offence. There is no custodial sentence available for careless driving, but one was passed for the offences of failing to stop after the accident. Unfortunatley the maximum sentence is not very long for failing to stop. Pile of cr@p I kow, but that's the reason for it.
  22. Unfortunately the question should be ''What are the politicians on?". The judges hands are tied if they can't prove 'Dangerous Driving'. Then it comes down to 'Careless Driving'. At the moment there is no specified offence of 'Death by Careless Driving' as there is in the case of Dangerous Driving. Careless Driving, (whether or not it involves a death) as stated in the BBC article doesn't attract a custodial sentence. A bill was tabled last October to make a new offence of Death by Careless, but until the politicians talk it over for a year or two this is what we're faced with. Crazy isn't it? This should have been sorted out years ago.
