  2. How could they not find the fault if the window wouldn't open and the trim was loose? Wouldn't this be there for all to see?? Did I miss something?
  3. The only other stipulation is that you need to take your old certificate with you when you go to the MOT station.
  4. They would only be able to refuse to pay your bill. THey'd have to cover the 3rd party claim regardless. They COULD then reclaim these costs from you and cancel your insurace, but as previously stated you've declared the change to the front end and this is part of it. To be honest, I very much doubt that any assessor would know that the crash bar should be there. Besides, if the front of the car is mangled enough in a crash to expose it, the chances are it would be like the foil around a kit-kat by then and would look nothing like it did originally anyway!
  5. I have a couple of those telescopic magnet things. It's a bit of a standing joke with IanC and myself - I had to find the most powerful one I could, so when on a weekend in Derbyshire, I found one in a little hardware store for 99p - it is capable of lifting (wait for it) 8lb!!! Trouble is, if the lost nut/bolt is lying amongst other magnetic metals, you've no chance of getting this thing near it as it alwars twangs off in the direction of the nearest bit of metal and attaches itself to it! (Sorry - not relevant I know but had to share that with you all)
  6. This was the figure quoted when the MKiv came on the market. 4.9 for manual.
  7. You'll still need a fuel controller though as the stock ECU will be applying pulse durations for 440's which of course means you'll be dumping in too much fuel.
  8. They posted on here a while ago. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=72375 As you'll notice they kind of disappeared part way through the thread. They also failed to turn up at the Snetterton Round of the British GT that they said they were going to be at when we had said a group of us would go to support them. Unfortunately Angie and myself were amogst the group that went along to see them but they weren't there. Would have been nice if they had just replied to the thread and said things hadn't worked out for them!

    Insurance

I have to say that this seems barely credible. Nothing to do with their site either. Just a few weeks back, Standard and Poor (an independent company that provides credit ratings/investment indices on major companies) said in a report that UK Motor Insurers would have to raise premiums in the near future. This is because on average, motor insurers are paying out £113 for every £100 of premium they receive. This is obviously a situation that cannot be sustained. I think Norwich Union currently pays out £104 for every £100 of premium. To enter the motor insurance market with a fixed price product like this wouldn't be such a bad idea if they applied some sort of minimum acceptance criteria to at least try to avoid the worst risks, but this company doesn't seem bothered about this. This looks suspicious in itself. This product will certainly attract the bad risks. Think about it. The best risks for motor insurance will probably be paying around this figure anyway. Even if they're paying £550, will they think it will be worth the extra excesses (particularly the windscreen one!) to save £110? So many of the best risks will stay where they are - with their current insurers. Amongst others, this company will attract the max-power brigade and who knows how much they will end up paying out in claim settlements? With a smaller 'per policy' income too, the sums won't add up for long. All this will do will be to put the bigger insurance companies in an even stronger position as they will lose their worst risks (that they didn't want anyway) to this company and keep the good risks. The product looks so 'non-standard' that I'd want to read their T's and C's very carefully before going with them. The insurance industry over recent years has become more and more sophisticated in how it rates risks and applies loadings etc to motor policies in order to make sure that risks are identified more accurately and premiums reflect a 'truer' level of risk. To simplify the situation like this by throwing rating factors out the window completely could turn out to be financial suicide - unless they plan on not paying out where at all possible.
  10. Jo Wiley plays the biggest load of obscure cr@p and then spends half the day talking about how great it is! (IMHO of course....)

    Diesel cars

As Alex says, anything with a VAG TDI lump in it. Easier to sell on after your finished with it than a Mondeo too as you're not putting it in the paper amongst the other squillion that will be for sale at the same time! Plus the build quality of the rest of the car is probably better too. The VW/Audi 2.5 TDi will get mid to maybe high 30's per gallon on the motorway and mid to high 20's around town. The 1.9TDi can get high 50's or if you're careful even low 60's per gallon on the motorway and 40ish around town. We've got an Audi A6 1.9TDi getting these sort of mileages on it. Completely reliable and now approaching 150,000 miles on it.
  12. 1. "I'll torture you so slowly you'll think it's a career.." (Hudson Hawk) 2. "She's so ugly, when she makes love she has to pretend SHE'S someone else.." (Maverick).... 3. "Sometimes you just gotta say 'What the f*ck!'" (Ralph (aka. Tom Cruise) - Risky Business)
  13. Don't think it was either Angie or me I'm afraid. Where were the roadworks? I was out in my car this evening but Angies car was in the driveway all day. I never seem to see any of you lot when I'm out and about!
  14. On the plus side, it does have Ohlins...... You could bin the bonnet/doors/rear lights/about 25 of those gauges though! (all IMHO of course)
  15. :yeathat: And I heard the term "Alleged Plot" being used on Sky news on Thursday Morning, while this story was still breaking. Hang on a while before breaking out the conspiracy theories. (Although I do have to agree with many of the comments about past performance in some instances - I wouldn't trust the govt. one inch!)
  16. Rosie, if you close the doors and boot, the light will stay on, but are governed then by the timer circuit which should turn them out after a couple of minutes. However, at this point you can override the timer by locking the doors. Sometimes an alarm with a plunger switch on the bonnet can bring on the interior light too. If this was faulty, it could keep the light on. But you can also use the master switch on the light itself to override any of the switches/timers by just turning off the light completely. (It's the rocker one in the centre of the light.) And as someone else said, make sure you have the light in the boot turned off too! Hope to see it soon!
  17. Great post, Garfy. I'd say that covers just about everything - as you say, you even stated you didn't want to tread on anyone elses toes and explained why. How more careful could you have been. Come to think of it, I mentioned Powerflow in Norwich. But I have no connection (family or otherwise) to the company - does that make me a "pseudo-trader"? I just recommend items and companies that I find to be of good quality (and usually local to me) to other members. If we weren't allowed to mention deals from outside the forum at all, the traders could charge what they like and no-one could mention anything about getting the same stuff cheaper elsewhere - that sounds like the whole concept of the forum would be in the bin and this place would be owned and run by the traders and for the benefit of traders. We're all here to help each other out after all!
  18. Paul, Don't lose sight of why this forum is here in the first place. For a member to post about his mate/relative starting to deal in items that might be of benefit to the Supra community (in this case exhausts) can hardly make him a "pseudo trader". I thought this was one of the main purposes of the forum - a place where Supra enthusiasts can help each other out and we can all benefit. Now, if the members on here - having now seen the guys work because of the thread posted by Garfy - say they are interested, then he might apply to advertise on here as a trader. The more traders that are on the board the better it is for all of us punters because competition develops. But then some traders don't like competition and start calling other traders (and sometimes it seems, members who dare to mention them) pathetic schoolyard names. This forum was set up by an enthusiast for the good of other enthusiasts - NOT by a trader. How else do you expect us to hear of new business ventures that might interest us if another member does not bring them to our attention?
  19. Some people seem to missing the original point. I have no problem with a trader advertising something in a thread where someone for example is the various merits of a number of different brands of the same object. e.g. exhaust etc. But when a trader (like in Garfy's thread) posts a blatant advert in the middle of a discussion and it's totally irrelevant to the thread (no-one in the thread was referring to other makes etc) then I think it's taking the pi$$ - sorry! Yes, they pay their money, but that's for their trader section. They should use that for such adverts. Obviously it's fine to contribute to a thread where a product comes up in conversation and someone asks where they can get it from or how much does it cost etc.
  20. And there it is - the post that pushed me to start this thread in the first place! When you read the thread through, that post just seems sooooo opportunistic and contributes nothing to the debate whatsoever.
  21. So where do you purchase this happiness thing from? Do they take Visa?
  22. But if you had a 12" cock, wouldn't it be a foot?
  23. Is it just me or dies it seem a bit cheeky when, half way through a thread a trader posts a blatant advert for a product that's being discussed in that thread? I wouldn't mind so much if a contribution was made to the thread in the process, but if a trader just piles in with an advert for one of their products without ANY reference to the rest of the thread, shouldn't they butt out and place the advert in their own section? It'll soon be like watching ITV on here with targetted adverts for products relating to thread subject!
