  1. regtransfers.co.uk have, it seems just gone even higher in my estimations. Good post, Rick. There's always two sides to a story.
  2. Doesn't the fact that going with '700hp with traction/launch control' just prove the point that with that sort of power you may not be able to get traction effectively? If you fit RLTC, this cuts injector signal to hold the car back. i.e. it reduces the hp being put out by the car to a more manageable level anyway? I appreciate that it is possible to use big hp at higher speeds, but I'm afraid I won't use my car at 140mph on public roads.
  3. Should these sorts of threads be put in members only? It's just that any unique/different parts on the car might never end up on places like E-Bay if the thief looks at this site as a possible marketing tool and sees 1. That we all are looking out for it 2. That some of the parts he thought were stock/standard are in fact very unusual and would arouse suspicion if advertised to all and sundry. Just a thought....
  4. The cable is part of the regulator - you can't buy them separately. I've seen people try to repair these but they never really seem to work satisfactorily.
  5. The voices in my head. The evil creature that lives under my bed.
  6. Happy birthday mate! You're getting the keys to the hew gaff today too aren't you? Party round yours tonight then??
  7. I'll get some pics together tonight and send you some links. Where in Co. Down are you? I'm from there myself originally. (Ards)
  8. The following is the answer given in 2004 by the then Secretary of State for Transport to a question asked in Parliament: Mr. Jamieson: Only new cars are subject to maximum noise limits. However, Regulation 54 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 does set minimum requirements for the maintenance of exhaust systems and silencers for cars, and other vehicles, in use. This requires that they be fitted with a silencer, that the silencer is maintained in good and efficient working order and has not been altered so as to increase noise. The Regulations also make it an offence to use a car in such a manner as to cause excessive noise that could have been avoided by the exercise of reasonable care on the part of the driver. It is likely that a straight-through exhaust, whether used on a customised car or any other vehicle, would be in breach of this requirement. Enforcement, however, is a matter for the police.
  9. There is a limit to the noise an aftermarket exhaust can make, but I can't remember what that limit is. I remember there is a regulation that you can't alter the vehicles exhaust system to make the noise of the escaping gasses louder. (this would be buried somewhere in the Construction and Use Regulations) I seem to remember something from a couple of years back that all exhaust silencers should carry an 'E' mark and some sort of ISO or BS number that shows it conforms to the UK/EU regulations on this sort of thing. If it doesn't have this mark on it it is not considered road legal. (But don't take this as gospel - it's just something I seem to remember hearing a while back)
  10. The bonnet scoop was standard fitment to the UK models but some people have retro-fitted them to their imported cars. The UK cars also had headlight washers (known affecionately on here as headlight 'dildos'!) so you should be able to spot which is which fairly easily. I certainly wouldn't have been that much on edge driving in the wet on decent roads with decent tyres. You should get just over 30mph per 1000rpm in top gear in an auto. (Perhaps someone will come along in a minute with accurate numbers on that) So you shouldn't be hovering too close to that point where the second turbo is about to come on line at the slightest touch of the loud pedal if you're cruising at 80mph. The first (and one of the best) mods you should do is to fit Race Logic traction Control if you're worried about losing the back end. Do a search on RLTC for more info. My other half is about to put her Supra up for sale, black '93 RZ TT auto with 76k (i think) miles on it. I can supply full details if you want to know about it. Good luck with your search!
  11. No - you're referring to what was introduced in the C5 - these Corvettes have an alloy floor containing balsa wood. The balsa helps with sound deadening but is lighter than most other materials. Also, these floor panels are fitted between the centre of the chassis and hydroformed alloy perimeter rails which actually make the car almost 5 times stiffer than the previous model. The coupe C5 is stiffer with its' roof removed than the C4 was with it in place! External panels are always there just to geive the car its' 'look'- whether they be plastic/GRP/steel - they are not designed to give strength to the car. They are almost always designed to crumple on impact.
  12. As it's an N/A I'd have thought under £500 on the labour side of things. But you'll need to buy a set of head bolts too - I think they work out at close to £170 for the set. And it might be an idea to do valve stem oil seals while the head is off and the cams are out?
  13. Any chance of PM'ing me some details?
  14. I've had a Canon 350 for about 2 years now and still think it's a very good camera for the money. What swayed me with it was the size and weight. I go to Le Mans most years and to have a D70 round my neck for 5 or 6 hours at a time in 30 degrees heat wasn't going to be an option when the 350 was sooo much smaller and lighter. TBH, they were so close in specifications - some minor features on each that the other couldn't do - it really came down to how I was going to use the camera. Go into a shop and get the models you're interested in out on the table together. See how each feels - handling a camera is a personal thing and you need to try each to see which is more comfortable. These days there isn't a lot too choose between the different competing models. And forget the whole megapixel numbers game - that's only a headline to grab people who don't know any better. Check out the reviews for what has the best sensor. A good 8Mp sensor will give better results than a mediocre 10Mp using the same lens. Get the best you can afford and get decent lenses. These two things are the most important items that will help you record the most accurate images. Those two pics of the purple/blue car - good use of a polarising filter will help you to get the best interpretation of that colour.
  15. Can I just point out that this looks different on paper? If your monitor isn't calibrated, you'll probably all see it differently to each other. On my monitor at work it looks alot darker than my home one.
  16. You doing it yourself or having someone do it for you? That's what will have the biggest affect!
  17. Because..... 1. You are actively advising people NOT to use this company's services.. 2. This website can be held responsible for allowing YOUR comments to be displayed on a public forum. So WE ALL could end up losing our forum if Regtransfers take the hump. They aren't obliged to do anything other than what they've said in their T's & C's. I reckon they went beyond the call of duty to make you an offer of another plate last week. AND they're not saying you won't get the plate for 12 weeks - they're saying you won't get a refund until 12 weeks has passed without you getting your plate. (As specified in their T's & C's that you agreed to when you ticked the box) You may of course get your plate in the next 3 or 4 weeks - but that is out of their hands - they can't control when the current owner gets their V5 or when they will receive it from the current owner, even if they wanted to. You made a mistake in failing to read the T's & C's, and credit to you, you have admitted that. But don't go blaming the company or actively encouraging others to avoid using that company's services over a delay that is not their responsibility or is longer than that which they informed you about. Whitesupraboy2 may not be a party involved in the transaction, but as a moderator here, he will look out for the interests of the club. You are placing the club in a position where it could be party to a possible lible, because you are using this forum (which is in the public domain) to rant about a company which on the evidence available, doesn't seem to have breached any of their terms of trading.
  18. I understand completely where you're coming from on this and know you must fell really frustrated, but all of the registration number brokers have this sort of condition built into their contracts. If you think of it form their side, they could end up having done part of the work between the seller and DVLA to assign the plate to a buyers car when the buyer could just turn around and say they want out. If the buyer was allowed out of the contract, they'd end up with a plate that has been removed from one car, is ready to be assigned to another (and DVLA may already have done this on paper) and they then end up with a plate that nobody wants but they have the previous owner shouting for the money for selling it. Plus, when you go through the process and pay, you will have ticked the box to declare that you have read and agree to the Terms and Conditions. These T's and C's are pretty clear: Item 14: Many Registration Marks can be supplied on a Certificate of Entitlement within 3-5 working days, but other types of transfer can take 4-6 weeks and all transfers can take up to 12 weeks. Although we do often give you an idea of timescale for transfer to be completed at the point of sale this can vary due to unforeseen circumstances. If we are unable to complete a transfer within 12 weeks of receipt of cleared funds and correct documentation from the purchaser a full refund of all monies paid will be made. Item 20: Registration Transfers Ltd cannot accept responsibility for delays or errors caused by the postal system, e-mail, the Department of Transport, DVLA, any unforeseen circumstances or any failure or delay on the part of the donor or the receiving vehicles. It might be prudent for you to remove any defamatory remarks in your posts and to reconsider your thread title - a forum for some womens self-help organisation very nearly got sued over something like this recently. They only avoided court action as they went through every reference to an author of some book or other on their site and removed them all.
  19. Sorry, but I have to say that if the plate is on someone elses car then it's out of their hands how long it takes to get it off that car and out to you. The service will be exactly the same with whichever reg. number broker you use in these situations. READ THE T's & C's FIRST! If you had done this you would have seen this to be the case. It's pointless to turn around now and blame the company and drag their name through the mud just because you didn't do your homework. The trouble with buying a plate that has already been issued, is that it is down to the owner of the plate (who advertised it through the broker) whether they keep it on their car until a buyer is found (which could be a long time) or put it on retention. It is their choice, they instruct the broker who just advertises it for them. Once a buyer is found, it take time for the owner of the plate to get the number reassigned and another number assigned to their car. (Usually the original number of the car) Then it becomes available ot you. If they've been a numpty and lost their V5, then that's hardly the fault of the broker. If you were buying a plate that was on retention, then it would have taken very little time at all. As for buying direct from DVLA - this is ok too but isn't actually any quicker if the number you want has never been issued. (Which is the only type of number that DVLA will sell anyway) But you'll find that with many numbers from DVLA, they actually charge you more for it than a broker will. Brokers get a discount (a HUGE discount!) for buying hundreds of numbers from DVLA every year for their clients. This means that by taking a lower profit than DVLA, they can sell them to you cheaper. I bought a number this year from a broker for under a grand. DVLA had it up for almost £1300! I had all the paperwork sent to me promptly and had it on the car in under 10 days from requesting it form their website. Did I mention the name of the broker? REGTRANSFERS.CO.UK And YES, I'd use them again.
  20. Aaww - and I thought you were such a nice guy, Michael! lol!
  21. Me too. So he may be fed up with them causing damage etc, but he's now making entertainment out of being cruel to animals. Plus it doesn't end with just this. There are tens of thousands of kids out there who think this sort of sh*t is acceptable (happy-slapping, anyone???) and will be trying this on with the neighbours cats etc. I'm signing up to Putfile just to report this one. Sorry if anyone disagrees, but this sort of cr@p makes my blood boil. /RANT]
  22. (Post #12, further up the page....)
  23. Or Ocean Finance or whatever loan company it is with an extortionate interest rate. That bloke with a postage-stamp lawn gets a loan and ends up mowing the grass on a ride-on mower! FFS, no wonder they were broke and they will be again, stupid tw@ts!!
  24. Yeah - I've had a few 'boil in the bag' mornings at Le Mans! Not nice - expecially if you've been out until 4am the night before!
