  3. Tail lights are on the same circuit as side lights. (For obvious reasons when you think about it) I would check the connection at the fuse - not for a broken fuse, but to check that the connection at the box is good and there are no signs of any carbon build up on the ends of the fuse which would indicate that the connection has been weak and arcing. Other than that I'd also check the connector under the steering column, just down from the steering wheel - it's where the stalks wiring connects into a wide comb-like connector. Just make sure that's all tight. (You'll have to remove the column shroud to get at this but it's only 2 or 3 screws. Good luck.
  4. Not sure about the military bit. The Lord Corporation developed the fluid, but it was Delphi who first developed a suspension system to use it. With GM, they first put it on a Cadillac (Think it was the STS) in 2002, but the Corvette 50th Anniversary edition in 2003 was the first production car to have it as standard fitment. (New there was a 'first' in there somewhere!) Millenworks fits this type of system to Humvees for the US Army, but I can't find anything about when they started doing this. (Millenworks is the same company as Rod Millen Motorsports who do stuff for Supras) Millenworks have also acted directly with the Lord Corporation in this work, so have likely had their part to play in the development of use of this fluid in suspension systems.
  5. lol at the Topgear comment, "It should be more driveable than Corvettes of old, thanks to a Magnetic Selective Ride Control system, which works in a similar fashion to the Audi TT's magnetorheologic suspension - electronically controlled shocks are filled with fluid that reacts to magnetic charges for near-instant damper adjustment." This system was put in the C5's a few years back and the Corvette was the first production car to ever use it - it wasn't Audi's idea. In fact, as far as I know, this was first developed by GM for the Corvette, although nowadays Ferrari use it in the F599 as well as Audi et al.

  7. So what software do you produce? Who buys it? I work in the same line of business - for the company that owns RAC/HPI. If you do access the same data source as HPI, how often do you run your extract? Just wondering why your queries seem to be giving different results.
  8. Big compay then, eh? Just a word to others here about using the term 'hpi' when saying 'I did an hpi check with MYCARCHECK' or whoever. HPI is a company in its' own right, so be careful about using their brand name with reference to other companies and then saying they were sh!te - HPI them selves might not like it and it just confuses things a little.

    I think you mean UK/British Nationals. This is true unless you are from Northern Ireland in which case, you are permitted to enter the visa lottery scheme.

    The worst thing about taking a job in the States is the fact that they get almost no holiday each year - normally start out with little or no holiday in the first year then moving up to about 10 days a year. Once you've been with a company for a long time (10 years plus!) you might get 15 days a year. Just another thing to factor in when you're negotiating the terms. And try to get healthcare - otherwise it can take a very large chunk of your salary for insurance. Other than that I love the states - especially the sleepy ones! I spent some of my childhood in Minnesota and absolutely love going back for visits. Good luck!
  12. Angie has an Audi A6 1.9Tdi which I reckon has one of (if not the best) diesel engines out there. The A6 is a big car, but the engine certainly isn't underpowered and the car is bigger and more luxurious than an A4. And because it's a bigger car, it's also a cheaper second hand buy than an A4. She pays £65 to fill up from when the light comes on @ £1.06/litre. (meaning 61.32 litres or as near as dammit 13.506 gallons) which normally gets her 625 miles. This works out as an average of just over 46mpg. This is NOT motorway driving (We live in Norfolk for goodness sake!) mainly her mileage is on B-roads and is stop start as she goes from client to client all day. When the car was newer, we did manage over 54mpg on a motorway cruise, keeping it around 70mph. (Over 700miles on a tank) The car has done over 166,000 miles now and is stil going strong. HTH.

  14. Well if you're going to be picky, then so am I. If it's the momentum of the car that forces air through the 'cooler, then it follows that if I add weight to my car (thus increasing it's mass) it will have more momentum whilst in motion and therefore will be able to force more air through the 'cooler and therefore remove more heat! This will obviously lead to HP gains! Add weight - go faster!

I have a Toyota pdf here for the 2JZ-GTE which, in the section for adjusting valve clearances, when it gets to refitting the valve covers states: Apply sealant at indicated No. 1 and 2 valve cover sealing areas on front of cylinder head. See Fig. 8. Using NEW gaskets, install No. 1 and 2 valve covers. Tighten bolts to specification. I just used Hermetite red. Here's the pic:
  16. Sorry mate. When I did mine, I didn't think of it as being much of a problem to whip the cams out and do the belt etc while I'm at it. If it's been together long enough for the shims to be worn out of tolerance, it might be worth thinking about a new belt anyway?
  17. I just use a magnet, normally. Never had much of a problem removing the shim from the bucket.
  18. This will only be true if they also see a corresponding increase in the same types of accident for all other cars. After all, all makes/models are using the roads and if there isn't something inherent in the makeup of the Supra or the type of person who drives it, then all models will show similar increases in their rate of being involved in accidents. If any one model of car is having more accidents than others, it will have premiums loaded against it. It's simple risk assessment. At the end of the day, if you bin it and no-one else was to blame, it goes down as a 'lost control' fault accident. The 'oil on the road' being blamed doesn't really matter to the insurance company as far as individual claims are concerned. In fact, I'm not sure they even have a specific accident reason that includes oil on the road.

No point in making an assumption that there's nobody in the Nissan that's alive, then going to see if he can help with the Supra driver only to find himself getting a bullet in the back form the bank robber who miraculously survived! Make the scene secure first, then help those that need it. Besides, why are we suddenly having a pop at the police officer? This was caused by the a$$hole bank robber - it's him that deserves our anger, not the cop.
  21. I'd say it's a great idea to get on an HNC course - 2 years of 2 evenings a week. It may not be all that applicable to what eh ends up working at, but it will give him credibility with a prospective employer if nothing else. I did the HNC this way in 2000 - 2002 and got a decent job whilst I was still doing the 1st year of my course. It served me well as it showed I was serious about the work by being willing to invest my own time, money and effort to get qualifiactions. (Although I've just been made redundant this week. ) Anyone need a Systems Analyst for a datawarehousing project?
