    How lame

Sorry if I offended you with my comments. It was only meant as a joke really - that's why I didn't go over to the SF site and post it as it would have stirred them up no end. As it happens, part of my upbringing was in the US and I'm still in touch with my foster family in MN that I first went to stay with over 30 years ago. I've been going back on a pretty regular basis to the US for all of that time, so I've become probably one of the most pro-american people I know - heck, I even drive a Corvette these days! (And did so about 15 years ago, as well as a '73 Mach1 and a couple of other cars from the 'States) Generally I love the American people - it's just the keyboard warriors that annoy me. I remember reading an argument with some Americans on some site or other where all they could do was slag off the British sports car industry and big-up Nascar/IRL etc etc - not realising that at the time most (if not all) of the teams in IRL (the premier US racing series) were involved with Cosworth, Lola or Reynard - all of which are British. They went strangely quiet when that was pointed out. Like I said, I was just having fun - I do think some of the styles I've seen out there are maybe a couple of years out of date though - not really as bad as 1978, but like I said - it was a joke - an exaggeration for comic effect - sorry again if you were offended.

    Just been...

I'm also ex-job. Havard - how come you use the old argument of 'they should be out catching real criminals'? You know as well as I do that there are different departments for different areas of policing. Put it this way, until recently I have been working for an insurance compeny in IT. Now if my employer sent me and all my colleagues out as loss adjusters, we'd be cr@p at that because we wouldn't be expert in the processes that are used by that part of the organisation. Conversely, the loss adjusters would likely crash the company's whole IT infrastructure if they tinkered with it. In the police, the traffic officers are expert at their job - but don't go asking them to investigate a burglary or serious fraud or a rape, because there are people who are more expert in those areas who ARE out catching those type of criminals. We can't expect the entire police force to go after burglars et al and neglect all the other equally important areas of everyday policing just because we don't like getting pulled for traffic offences. I agree that things have changed over the years though. I joined in the 80's and things were waaaayy different then. Maybe there's too much political stuff going on these days that intereferes with the priorities that are set for the police to concentrate on.
  3. Are you sure you're selecting the right audio input on the DVD player? I use optical out from my PS3 to my DVD as it has Dolby 5.1 surround and TBH, it's excellent. I generally use the PS3 as my DVD player now too as it upscales - my DVD home theatre system really only gets used as an audio amp nowadays.
  4. You don't need to get new lights - do a search for headlight refurb and you'll find out how to do the job yourself. I did these about 7 years ago and they still look good:

Optional??? From the DVLA website: And as the relevant British Standard for our cars is BS AU 145d, which states that for a plate to conform to this standard, it must be: I'd say you don't have much to argue about really. As for the Police Officer not having anything better to do, well...what would you expect - he's being paid to do his job, and it looks like he's....well.....doing it! (Shocker!) Sorry, Imi-7 but I've had illegal plates on vehicles too, but when I've been pulled up for them, I've just had to change them and on one occasion got a £30 fine which I paid straight away. Same as speeding - if I get caught going over the speed limit, how can I moan if a Police Officer does his job and reports me for it? Don't take this sort of thing from the Police so personally. There's been a crackdown on illegal numberplates in many parts of the UK recently, so I suppose this sort of thing is to be expected.

I so wanted to post that cultures are different around the world. You know, for example, Americans like to dress and wear their hair much like they did back in 1978. And most women over there wear their make-up like something out of an Abba tribute band. But I didn't think such comments would go down too well!
  7. I've seen cars going over 70mph - I really can't understand how they can do that! (I think it's called 'winging it'!) lol
  8. You're on form today, Michael. Yes, even for you.
  9. This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. My whole face hurts it made me laugh so hard! It all happens at about 1min 28secs CLICK
  10. Well, I felt sorry for the kid an' all....but then I couldn't help myself and laughed. Besides, he'll live - if he doesn't contiue to be stoopid.
  11. I figured he couldn't remember if the kid was climbing a rope or not as he said 'or something'. This was the only one I could think of that had a fat kid in a gym. Anyway, would you give this kid a rope? Talking of fail, here's a good 'un. http://bobobox.net/~bobo/ars/forknose1.jpg
  12. We're not worthy. No, really - we're not. Really... Not at all... ...worthy...
  13. http://www.snopes.com/horrors/techno/radar.asp Still a great story, though.
  14. Car has to be first registered before Jan 1973, if memory serves.
  15. Second turbo comes in @4k rpm. And you were revving this high when pulling away??
  16. They're side repeaters for the indicators - the facelift car doesn't have the side repeaters further up the wing like pre-facelift.
  17. Haven't heard that in ages! "Tell me about your childhood..."

    Deep lip supra

Oh, for the love of god....
  19. Similar era: Donna Summer - Hot Stuff Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street (One of my favourite songs ever) The Motors - Airport The Sweet - Love is like Oxygen
  20. Not exactly from my childhood, but from when I left home and joined the Air Force. Video A really good driving song - summer day, open road, top down, stereo turned up. I'm getting all nostalgic now... (The video won a grammy too)
  21. The occasion I mentioned from 2 years ago involved a Stillen bumper - you must have been more careful about driving behind other cars than I was!
  22. Like the louvres in the bonnet and it suits the white wheels. (But then I always like IanC's louvred bonnet which he's had on his car for years.) Not keen on the white gob....HOWEVER....if you like it, then don't listen to any of the comments that say to change it. At the end of the day it's your car and you've made it to your own spec. Enjoy it. :enjoy:
