  1. Not only has someone already thought of it....they've already implemented it in Northern Ireland! Belfast Telegraph Story Sky News Story
  2. May be sold as I've had a reasonable offer that would allow me to go for the next car I want. Just waiting for the deposit to arrive. Thanks for all the interest and kind comments, everyone. This is where I'm going....
  3. You mean this one? Unless someone offers me something appreciably over 20k in the next 24 hrs, I think it's already sold, mate. But then I'll be on the way to getting the next 'vette!
  4. Yep, about 6" longer and 2" wider than a 911 (997) This was done deliberately with the C6 to 'Europeaise' the Corvette - they used the 911 as the benchmark as they saw it as their main competitor. *EDIT* - Got that all wrong actually. The C6 Corvette is 1.4" wider and 0.3" longer - so not much bigger than a 911 at all. Relative to the MKIV Supra, the C6 is 1.3" wider and 3.1" shorter It's probably a spacial awareness thing when you drive one. You're suddenly on the wrong side of the car and it's more difficult to get a feel for where the corners of the car are from an unfamiliar position. The tendancy is then to over-estimate the size to make sure you don't hit anything!
  5. A new Z06 is just over £60k here.(Although deals have been done at about £58k recently) A good used one (about 2 years old) is a little over £40k on average from a dealer. (I looked at 2 today.) Still a lot for your money though. As regards the C6 Convertible, I was told today that a base model was about mid to high £40k's, but if you want the handling pack or any of the extras, (even metallic paint) that all goes on top, so many come out as well into the £50k's.
  6. In the US I believe the list price will be about $105,000. In Europe I think it will be about £75,000 at best. HOWEVER, in the first year of production, the word is that you'll be lucky to get hold of one for anywhere near the list price! It probably won't be that much different in Europe.
  7. One at 6pm (exactly, as it goes!) on the A14 westbound, just the Cambridge side of the Newmarket services. One about 30mins later on the A11 northbound at the Attleborough roundabout. (CAS ***A) On the A14 I was in a line of Corvettes heading the other way. On the A11 I was in the Yellow Corvette behind you as you turned off the roundabout into Attleborough.
  8. Eh? The ZR1 has Carbon Ceramic brakes as standard. I guess you were joking about the extra 200bhp? Oh - nice new wheels on the Supe, Ian! Suits them.
  9. The boys at GM have been getting some practice in! CLICK
  10. I'm buying in the States and importing one myself. PX might be difficult in those circumstances.
  11. How much lighter can you make it? They already have a magnesium front subframe, carbon wings and carbon/balsa floor panels! Much of the rest of the body is lightwieight composite too. The whole C6 range handle extremely well. Come to that, the C5 (as it was a similar chassis design) isn't a bad handling car either. With the Z51 handling package I think it's quite an improvement over most of the cars we drive.
  12. Thanks Thorin. Normally the C6 convertible does fetch a little more than the C6 Coupe which has a removable targa panel like the Supra Aerotop. The Z06 is a fixed hard top, (No targa) but it's the extra performance (505bhp straight out of the box) that costs. The car I'm looking for with the 6 litre LS2 engine with less than 5,000 miles on the clock will be about £30k to £35k on the road after duties etc and SVA are all paid for. I don't think that's too bad for a 2006-2007 car with 430bhp stock. You can find a decent C6 coupe for under £30k OTR Thanks! Want to make me an offer? The price is "o.n.o."
  13. Cheers, Jamie. Looking for a Velocity Yellow C6 Convertible with 6 speed auto box with paddle shift, would also like the magnetic selective ride suspension. (the system copied by the Ferrari F599 and Audi etc) Being that specific, I'll probably be importing form the States myself. A Z06 would be nice, but TBH I've got so I won't have a hardtop car now - I like being able to drive in the summer with the top down. (Plus you're really looking at a £40k+ price tag for a C6 Z06 which is just a little more than I want to spend at the mo...)
  14. This particular one is, yes. (Now edited to add this. DOH!)
  15. For sale is my 2003, 50th Anniversary Corvette C5 Convertible. (4-Speed Auto) It's registered as 2004 as it was still in the showroom until then before it was sold new. It's in Millenium Yellow and as a eurospec car was extremely well optioned. (see below) Condition is excellent (as you'd expect from a car of this age, I guess) Reason for selling? I'm buying another Corvette! New front tyres fitted about 3,000 miles ago, new rear tyres last month. (Goodyear Eagle F1 - original fitment - these are now about £300 a tyre, so this will save you some money if you're interested) Service history is up to date and complete. (Last service was performed in May 2008) It's covered about 38,500 miles. Comes with an armful of paperwork, receipts etc. It even has the original 50th anniversary commemorative video. The car has almost every available option on it and the equipment includes: ACTIVE HANDLING ABS PERFORMANCE HANDLING PACKAGE (Z51) 3.15 PERFORMANCE AXLE RATIO PREFERRED EQUIPMENT GROUP INCLUDING: HEADS UP DISPLAY CRUISE CONTROL TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM LEATHER SPORTS SEATS - 6 WAY ADJUSTABLE ADJUSTABLE STEERING WHEEL MEMORY CONVENIENCE PACKAGE (OUTSIDE MIRRORS, RADIO, SEAT AND HEATER SETTINGS) DUAL ZONE AIR CON REMOTE 12 DISC CD CHANGER WITH RADIO/CASSETTE AND BOSE 6 SPEAKER SYSTEM ELECTROCHROMIC (SELF-DIMMING) MIRRORS/DEFOG FOG LAMPS BODY SIDE MOLDINGS POLISHED ALUMINIUM WHEELS BORLA STINGER EXHAUST (Stock system also supplied) PLEASE NOTE: Registration plate available separately. Please feel free to call and discuss any questions you may have. Asking for £21,950 ono
  16. Check you haven't blown a pipe off the wastegate vsv. It'll take you about 30secs to sort it out. If this is what's happening, the wastegate won't be operating and your boost be uncontrolled. (Which is BAD)
  17. No - not Oasis Limos, it's Oasis limousines. That's Oasis Limousines of Bradford. The ones you can contact on 01274 488618 or 07944 152231 Yep. Oasis Limousines, Bradford.
  18. I thought about suggesting ls1tech.com as I'm a member on there myself, but from what I've seen there, it's generally more focussed on the LS generation of engines which weren't introduced until 1997. (Although people do discuss projects on older stuff from time to time) It's still worth asking on there though.
  19. Seems that the casting number (3970010) won't help much as this block was used for 3 engine sizes using different cranks or bore size. I'd have thought you'd be best to register on a forum related to the Chevy Smallblock engine to get one of the smallblock gurus to give you a definitive answer. Perhaps try http://www.hotrodders.com there's been similar questions asked there in the past. If the engine was out you could pull the oil pan and see if it's a 4-bolt or 2-bolt main bearing or measure the bore by pulling one of the heads, but other than that I'm not sure. You might find there's more numbers stamped around the block too - I think there's one near the transmission bell housing and one on a flat panel on the right side of the engine (when viewed from the drivers seat) that might give more information. However, I have my doubts on the mileage of the engine if it's using that much oil. (And obviously it seems stupidly low for it's age too!) No idea on how you'll check the cam (it only has one cam as the smallblock is a pushrod V8) to see if it's been uprated other than removing it to check any numbers on it. Maybe you could measure the valve lift if you have the right tools? As there are a number of different dipstick lengths used for different oil pans, you'll have to accurately identify the engine before you'll know for sure.
  20. Yeah - everyone stop posting or...or....or he'll lose it BIG TIME and post angrily at us! And that'll teach us all a lesson.

  22. Not necessarily. Only in the last few years have some insurers gone down the road of requiring a car belonging to someone else to have a policy in force relating to it. Many policies still allow you to drive any vehicle (as long as you're licensed to drive it) belonging to another and not being used by you under a hire agreement without the stipulation of another policy being in force. In short, you need to check your policy. As already said though, in this case, if the Pug belongs to the OP, he's not insured.

Agreed. Also full face car helmets generally give LESS peripheral vision than a motorcycle helmet. (Hence why car helmets are illegal for motorcyclists to wear on the road)

I take it you'll be buying all the fire-proof overalls/gloves etc also then?
  25. Happy birthday tall technical bloke! When are we all going out for a drink/bite to eat then? And happy birthday to AMG too.
