  1. I know the brake discs on the new ZR-1 are about £25k if you want to buy a set. The fronts are the same as those on the FXX and the rears are apparently used on the stock Enzo. Apparently you probably won't need to replace them if you only drive on the road. Repeated hard use on the track however, is a different matter.
  2. Saw one in Belfast last week that I recognised from my school days in N. Ireland. AZ 1 Used to belong to my Geography teacher who had it on his Saab. Now on a Merc C class - probably his son. AtoZ maps wanted it badly in the 70's and offered him about 25k for it back then. (Which was stupid money for a plate back then!)
  3. Yup, that was my reasoning.
  4. Ron Hornaday Snr. At least it's car related! I guess I could call the band 'NASCAR Father'.
  5. What about a DBRS9? This is a customer order only car, available as a road-going version of the DBR9. (Le Mans winner for the last 2 years) It has a carbon roof (although this is painted) and puts out about 550bhp. Should have a roll cage in it as standard. Some privateer race teams buy and race them, but one or two have been put on the road I bellieve. ProDrive do the work I believe.
  6. I never buy anything more than my lunch on my debit card. I spend about £10 a week cash! Everything else goes on credit card and I pay it off at the end of the month. I had someone hack my accounts last year and since then, I try to spend the credit card company's money and then pay it back each month. That way, if my card gets hacked, it's most likely to be my credit card. I can live without a card for a month or two until any dispute is sorted out, but if my bank account were to get drained, I'd be stuffed, so I keep it as safe as I can. If you buy anything on credit card, you're protected by the consumer credit act. Not so if you use your debit card.
  7. And that's why he was given a custodial sentence - just for the texting alone. How many other times have you seen someone put away for texting that, it was established, did not cause an accident? Has anyone here ever happened upon an accident in the dark, perhaps in poor visibility where a crashed car is sitting side on to you in the middle of the road? It takes a few seconds for you to actually believe your eyes - and if you're travelling at motorway speeds, that's a lot of yardage you've just covered before you even hit the brakes! I remember when I was in the Police, being sent to accidents out in the sticks where a vehicle was blocking a road. I've managed a couple of times to get there before any other cars arrived on scene, and despite the fact that I was expecting to find a car in the road and knowing to within maybe a mile or so where it would be, I've still been surprised when I turned the corner to find a mangled hulk of a car covered in soil and bits of grass sitting (unlit) in front of me.
  8. I like the slide that says 'Our planet in the middle of the universe at night'. Wonder what it would look like in the middle of the universe during the day! Also, the slide of Europe. The arrow that's meant to be pointing at England is pointing to Scotland. Must have been put together by an American. (No offense)
  9. At the Corvette Nationals last year in Huntingdon, the show winner was Mike Hunt. There was lots of stifled laughter when his name was announced over the tannoy.
  10. I just put in the details of my C6 Corvette Coupe (UK spec) with 17k miles on it. There's not one around on Autotrader at the moment with similar spec/miles etc for under £25k. They offered me..... £14,810 Think I'll call them now......and tell them to f%*k off!!
  11. Unless you have a few grand left over after the purchase, I'd only buy with warranty. If that's the case, then I'd definitely, absolutely go for it. Post up your thoughts when you've been to drive one. I'd be interested to know what you think.
  12. Sounds like you're bracing yourself, Steve!
  13. Despite being a Corvette owner, (the opposition!) I've always said that I'll have one one day - just as soon as I can afford one. I had noticed they were coming down to £40k ish too! AM factory staff are on a 3 day week at the moment and they've just laid off a load of staff. Apparently they won't have a 'factory' presence at Le Mans this year, so things are not brilliant with the company just now. But then, what car manufacturer IS enjoying the current economic climate? GM certainly aren't! We're still waiting for confirmation the Corvette Racing will be going to Le Mans this year. Anyway - the car. Running costs are definitely high. I know that even the DB7 had some hugely expensive parts. Headlights were about a grand a side - and part way through the production run, they changed the design of them and the old shape of light was discontinued - completely. After that, if you broke one, you had to buy both! But that's not the Vantage. I love the look of the Vantage. It's a compact looking package, seems to be beautifully put together inside and is certainly more exclusive than Porsche. Stratton motor company is just down the road from me. Maybe give them a call and speak to Jon Stokes - he's one of the sales staff there who is a petrol head - goes to Le Mans on a regular basis and is enthusiastic. I'm sure he'd help you out with some info.
  14. Yep - agreed. Is your eyesight THAT bad, Rosie? These days I can't see for sh*t without my glasses or lenses, but I can still go swimming. It's a good aerobic exercise that would be a decent substitute for your running until your foot's better. (Weightlifting is good, but it isn't aerobic)
  15. This isn't one of those Zippos that falls into the category of 'most zippos'. I have a fair collection of Zippos myself. Most have never been used - in fact all my ltd editions have never been used and still have the orange sticker on the back as they have never even been flicked open. As limited edition Zippos go, £90 isn't out of the ordinary.
  16. So, Chris. Mid-life crisis, eh? When's the Porsche being delivered then?
  17. The warranty is a financial product because it is an insurance policy. Who's the underwriter? You should find this in the small print somewhere. If it's a decent size insurer, then they'll be regulated by the FSA. If you get no joy out of the insurer, go direct ot the FSA themselves with your complaint and also threaten to take it to the insurance ombudsman. Contact trading standards too. There are minimum standards of training that are legally required to be given to ANYONE selling any financial products. The insurer is ultimately responsible for making sure that anyone selling their products meets this requirement, so they won't be too impressed at some s**tty little garage tarnishing their name for the sake of a 1 month motor warranty. A garage behaving like this could/should find themselves never able to sell another warranty again.
  18. This one? Unfortunately the car now belongs to Stan.
  19. Didn't know they'd sold more than a couple of ZR1's in the UK yet. I'm afraid I try to keep my car tucked up in the driveway with it's covers on when it's snowing. Have any of you seen the Corvette concept that's to be in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? It's called 'SideSwipe' (You just know people are going to call it "ar$ewipe"!) Loads of Pics http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/jalopnik/2009/02/Sideswipe_Corvette_Stingray_Concept.jpg
  20. Without knowing how you wired up your conversion on the reversing lights, it's not really possible to come to any conclusion as to how you've messed things up. It sounds as though you've upset the feed to the reverse lights from the reverse gear switch at the selector. Is it an auto or a manual?
  21. Sidelights and tail lights are on the same circuit. If you think about it, they should be. When you turn on your sidelights, that's when you need the taillights to light up too. If your taillights ever stop working, your front sidelights are the first thing check.
