  1. If you're bringing it into Ireland, the final cost will be totally different from bringing it into the UK. You'll have to pay shipping, then marine insurance. When it lands in Ireland, you'll have to pay landing fees/customs clearance fees. In the UK, you have to then pay import duty & VAT which I believe is on the entire bill so far. (i.e. VAT on everything including your shipping costs) Then here in the UK, we have to have the car SVA'd and then registered before it can be driven on the road. As I don't know what the tax rates/SVA equivalent charges etc might be in Ireland, then I haven't a clue how much the total final bill might be. But these are the sorts of things you should expect to be billed for.
  2. Yes I have. And I was impressed to find the wax inside the candle afterwards. However, the fact that the following day my ears didn't feel any different, lead me to have them checked at the Doctors surgery. They were still full of wax, so I used olive oil and had them syringed. This lead me to try the candle outside of an ear, burning it in a jar. I found just as much wax in the candle afterwards as when I'd used one in my ear. The candle generates this wax residue, not your ear. Have a read of this: http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/candling.html
  3. I used to believe these things worked too. However, having burned an ear candle with the bottom end of it in a sealed jar (as seen in many of the videos on youtube - search for 'ear candle myth') I found, as many others have, that the burned candle contained loads of 'ear wax' without having been placed in an ear. Ear candles - load of bollocks - and there are many accounts of them causing injury when hot was has fallen into the ear. Get your ears syringed at the doctors surgery by someone who knows wtf they're doing.
  4. My Dad was telling me about one Sunday night a year or two back, he was walking out of church in Belfast when a little old man, stinking of drink and barely able to stand walked up to him and asked him for some change. It was Alex Higgins. A really sad end to a talent I've yet to see matched. RIP Alex.
  5. Cosford? I remember there being lots of Ghurkas there when I trained there in the mid 80's. (Think they were there for something to do with the Joint Services Operational Photography unit) They marched everywhere at 120 paces/min. Mad!

  8. There will be a two-year pay freeze for public sector workers, says Mr Osborne, although the 1.7 million lowest paid will get a flat £250 pay rise. From next year, with the exception of pension and pension credit, benefits, tax credits and public service pensions will rise in line with consumer prices rather than retail prices - saving over £6bn a year by the end of the parliament Child benefit will be frozen for the next three years Housing benefit will be limited to a maximum of £400 per week for a four-bedroom house
  9. Bloomin' heck! I begrudge paying iii their £10 fee per transaction when I sell!
  10. And what about -700 F The current England team actually WIN the world cup. (I bet I'll regret that now!)
  11. I did say it was a joke (ish) I probably still need to get my coat though....
  12. This is still happening on the streets of the United Kingdom. It's a disgrace that a small number of twisted people still feel the need to do things like this.

    Joke (ish)

Arnold Schwarzenegger got asked if he wanted to upgrade his PC to Windows 7. He turned the offer down saying, "I still love Vista, Baby". :thanku:I'm here all week!
  14. Glad I turned the TV over to Eurosport after an hour to see the Tour of Switzerland! Just when was the last time England beat a quality team? (I'm asking because I genuinely can't remember) If they do get through the group stages and come up against one, they'll get mullered if they play like they have recently.
  15. If you're going to use another conflict as an illustration, can I suggest you do a little research first rather than blurt out complete rubbish and then say that as you're actually ignorant on the subject, you should be excused? The words Catholic and Protestant were used to exhaustion in N. Ireland and became synonymous with Republican/Nationalist/Loyalist etc etc.
  16. Yep - I had a Footman James policy like this a few years ago and was most upset that when the renewal came through it didn't have any no claims added to it. At the time I was trying to build up my NCB from scratch after having ridden bikes for years and lost my car NCB. I felt like I'd wasted a year as when I went to another company I was starting from scratch for a second year in a row!
  17. Which corners were those then? (Virage = 'Curve/bend' in French - perhaps you meant Virage Porsche where they get up to this sort of speed on the entry to the corners?) I think you'll find Nige retired after 15 mins. (Even 15 laps was being kind to him!) I guess the black-out story could be because he may have blacked out on impact with the barrier?

Anyone else watching Le Mans? The battle at the front after nearly 21hrs is unbelievable! The No1 Peugeot just passed Andre Lotterer for 2nd place. Great battle going on after such a long amount of racing. Unusual for things to be quite this close after this amount of the race has been run. Plenty of mistakes being made in the last couple of hours too. Pressure is showing!
  19. The world ended about 2 hours ago. Both cars retired with mechanical issues - the first time they've had to shut the doors due to mechanical issues in 11 years. Bummer. The world didn't end when this stuff happened closer to home (in Norwich) in 1988. http://nosher.net/images/1980s/1987ValentinesStreetNorwich/n15-m.jpg

£100??? Sorry - I'd walk right past you at the door and buy one from the official desk inside for about that price or less.
  21. Or got the 'd' and the 'b' in the right order.....
  22. My 'ride to work on wet days' bike is a 2005 Kona Dawgmatic. (Putting it on ebay soon if anyone's interested!) Normally though, my Giant XTC Alliance1 with the mixed ally and carbon frame is my bike of choice. Want to get to llandegla at some point - looks like some serious fun to be had there.
  23. Only if it's a UK/Euro spec car. If it's imported from the US, it'll still be PLG or the latest equivalent. A number of friends of mine in the Corvette Owners club have brought theirs in during the last year. Latest one, 2008 LS3 with 3,000 miles. Pays about £200/year or thereabouts. My C6 is a UK spec, but fortunately it's pre-23rd March 2006 so it only costs me about £220 a year. At that time it's an LS2 though - if you must have the LS3 and don't want to pay the higher road tax, go for a US import - cheaper to tax than mine!
