Got the car back from the painters on friday night. We decided to go for a slightly different effect this time. We used exactly the same paints as before but didnt put as many coats of the purple sparkle on as I wanted it more blue than purple.

Yes, though stainless dosn`t mean no polishing. The factory coating is top of the line and can take some serious abuse. I have had mine for 6 years and they still are faultless if you clean them every week. The problem is when you disturb the coating ie regrinding kerb damage. You have to machine stainless steel to remove the damage. This removes the protective coating. A good repair job will leave a smooth edge but it will eventually tarnish. Not a big problem as you can polish the machined edge. About one hour per month. At the end of the day I think that it is worth the effort for these wheels as they really set the car apart from the ordinary.
-
They dont need polished at all as they are coated. The only PITA is when you have to grind out any kerb marks. Then you break throgh the protective coat and the edge goes black. Easy enough to fix. Just rub the edge down with some good quality polish for a mirror shine.

Sorry mate, I dont have the details as I got mine 5 or 6 years ago and I have lost the invoice. I would have thought Blitz Uk should be able to give you the info. The smaller whheels may be ok for you if you are running standard power and suspension. I think 255s may fit on 9s???? In my opinion (obviously biased) the Z1s are the top dog for Supra wheels.
-
If the bigger wheels have the right offset and tyre profile then they will fit without having to roll or modify the standard arches. I am running 19s on lowered coilovers with no problems.
-
I am running Z1 19s. It has been a while since I bought them but I`m pretty sure that thefronts are 9 (255) and the rears are 10 or 10.5 (275).

A couple of months back I posted that my car had been involved in a motorway pileup. Luckily it was only bodywork damage but with the car having had a custom paint job 18 months ago, it was going to be expensive. I contacted the insurance firm (Greenlight, who use LV) and they were kind enough to sort it out even though the other guys insurance will eventually pick up the tab. First off they sent an appointed approved local repairer but once they heard about the hand mixed paint blend they didn`t fancy trying to match half a car so declined the work:imsorry: They asked me to get some quotes but I went to some of the biggest (and very expensive) body specialists and they all ran a mile. I guess that they all want to respray a BMW or Merc with a standard off the shelf colour for easy money. Anyway, I got a quote from the original painter along with a recommendation from the paint supplier that the car needed to be completely resprayed as it would be impossible to match the custom hand mixed sparkle finish. They agreed. Might have been due to the 5k cost being small beer compared to the brand new Jag and Merc written off in the same accident. The car has been in for a couple of weeks now and the bodywork repairs and priming work has now been completed. He is due to do the first colour coats this weekend (Nightmare blue sparklescent) and he will be ready to do the sparkle coats next week. I will have to go down for the day because the custom mixed sparkle coats make or break the paintjob. Dependant on the mix and number of coats, the car can look completely different. I will post up some pics as soon as it is done.

The new tyres will be back on when I pick them up tommorow.

I can`t get to the bottom of the valve on these wheels as the valve turns at 90 degrees inside the rim and runs tight to the surface.
-
The wheels have been up at the tyre fitters today and he tells me that it would be too tight to fit. The valve is L shaped and fits very close to the rim so there would be insufficient room to fit the sensors. I guess I will just have to do my weekly check instead:(
-
Hi Guys, was wanting to know if anyone had fitted TPMS sensors to three piece split rims before. Mine are Blitz Technospeed Z1 19s. I think that the valves are probably L shaped rather than straight, so the sensors probably wouldn`t be suitable for attachment that way. I am reluctant to stick or strap them to the drum of the wheel as others have tried. Has anyone successfully fitted them to these wheels:shrug:

Hi Guys, now selling my Arc BOV and aluminium flange. About 6k miles done since fitting and working well. Paid $350+ for it so am open to sensible offers.

One indicator is now clear. The coluored plastic lense was sliced off without damaging the light fitting or paintwork. That`s what I call a close shave!!!

Just phoned the cops to get the incident number for the insurance. Unbelievably they don`t have my car listed as part of the accident! Hard to believe their incompetance! There were two CID policewoman immediately at the scene of the crash as they were only a few cars in front of the crash. They took everyone`s names, addresses, phone numbers etc. When the traffic cops arrived (half an hour later) they didn`t take any names or numbers and started measuring distances where the carswere finally parked/crashed despite me telling them that the accident happened 100 yards further back up the sliproad. Luckily I know the cop who was doing the report so I`ll have to give him a bollocking.

Just google Auto Air Colours Hot Rod Sparkle;) They are semi opaque flakes so actually refract the light rather than just reflect it. Almost like a flip flake!!!

The sparkle coats are a hand mixed combination of purple and blue sparlkes layered up in several coats over the basecoat then clearcoated. The sparkles themselves actually change the colour of the paint below so if they are put on in the wrong mix, to dense a mixture or too many coats then the car will be completely different. I watched him applying the sparkle coats and the difference between each mist coat was amazing. Each time it looked like a completely different car. The original painter thinks that they might need 4 or 5 goes to get it right so it would be cheaper to do the whole car.

Spoke to my insurers today. They are going to look after it and then claim off the other guy. Only the excess to pay out until they get it settled. They have nominated Wrights to do the repairs and they have already been in touch to arrange pickup. Spoke to the original sprayer today and he says that there is no way they will be able to match the other panels. Apparently the sparkle flecks lie down differently between each coat so the whole car has to be done with each coat. I`ll have to see what their ideas are:boxing:
-
Well we will see what the insurerers say in the morning. They are in for one hell of a fight if they even suggest a writeoff. I have put way too much time and dosh into this car to let some beancounter take the piss.
-
Could have been so much worse!!! Still dont know how it wasnt a BIG hit. There was no hard shoulder so I think he must have rode up the barrier as he slid past!
-
It depends on whether they can match the colour. Unlikely as it is a custom paintjob.
