  1. Axa investment bond. Did me proud, easy in easy out. You get free drop dead cover with it too. Nice company.
  2. even though I was slightly sickened by some of the words and turns of phrases used, I hope that's me in ten years time.
  3. Yes Matt, I died a long time ago. How perceptive of you...
  4. in that case determinism sucks as a way to predict future actions of humans at the very least only because it doesn't take into account the true reasons for human choices which are more than plain physics and chemistry. Maybe it does not even take into account chaos theory, but I don't know for sure. And I thought random in it's non-pejorative definition was just a strict mathmatical expression.
  5. Then I don't get determinism. I thought it was the same as fate. Anyway, it doesn't really matter too much. It's about as important as whether you prefer a chocolate or a strawberry milkshake.
  6. I don't disagree with what you say. Sleep well, I should be too, but this thread wins. I should be up at five am by the latest.
  7. The bad things argument is simple yet telling. Old testament God, assuming his existence, lets bad things happen because we offended him greatly in the garden of eden, by eating that apple. We lost our innocence, and sin entered the world. We were banished from eden, and forced to live in an imperfect world, which contained disease and nasty mutations. It's the price we paid for disobeying God, we were cursed as such. So the bad things yes God allows them, even though they do not please him, it is his will. He gave us free will, we f**ked it up, we got the bad things happen. But we can come back to God's favour, learn to please him and get to heaven when we die.
  8. feel for you... It's a tragic thing to happen. Just as you were enjoying it. Hope you keep it and can get it repaired in due course.
  9. As has been previously implied, God, fate, and predeterminism go hand in hand. Either you believe it or you don't or you don't know/care. If God existed he would know the outcome of truely random events, as even randomness is within his power, control and foresight.
  10. wow tannhauser. Your replies are like a five course meal at a five star hotel. Each course designed to complement eachother, with intricacies of contrasting flavour and prepared with the love and care of cordon bleu chef. When you say we can't access the subconsiuos mind, how true is that? Cannot hypnosis access it. Or other therapies? Yes you put forward that reductionist argument taking it to a chemical level, but at what point do chemicals contain our consiousness? Our decisions are the product of the sum total of our psychology which is going to be determinded by how we have processed past experiences coupled with genetic predisposition, and you are right the current balance of chemicals in the brain. Apologies if this does not make sense, I am not as succinct or lucid in my expression as you, but I hope you get the gist.
  11. Dnb is the type of music that I feel has the most direct connection with my soul. This tune is no exception. Thanks. Supremely relaxing yet energetic at the same time, nostalgic and powerful.
  12. I met Nick Pope, a very nice and down to earth guy with a subtlely devastating sense of humour. He never did get back to me about the erotic sci-fi manuscript I sent him. I guess that was one of the last nails in my wannabe writer's coffin.
  13. Creepy. Is this the thin end of the wedge, or an innocent reaching out to make a taboo gesture acceptable again?
  14. Disappointed. Wanted to see a huge kermit made of fibreglass five storeys high.
  15. My brain is quite small, so I am really struggling with all this talk. I do partly agree with the notion of no fate is a crutch as it gives the master of your own destiny illusion, but.... In religion there is free will too. It's just God knows the choice that you have made before you make it. So there is another layer of complexity/ ludicracy. As for science of what you write here on the forum being explained totally in a molecular/ electrical way, I think is horse cack. Remember the power of the unconcious mind in all our decisions... I believe that humans are not capable of doing something truely random.
  16. How is your nipple relevant to the functioning of your body?
  17. Width is a double edged sword. Some girls complain.
  18. Wow, thanks for that explanation Ewen. I understand it now. It's like a positive version of "if a butterfly flaps it's wings in italy, it will cause an earthquake in china". Say hi to your wife from me. Via airplane 2 perhaps. Awesome.
  19. In many religions f*sting, is a way of showing your willingness to God to succumb to His will. It is a sign that you fear and respect Him, and want to please Him. It is also a way of getting His attention, and showing that you are prepared to suffer for the true celestial nourishment you crave. It also helps focus the mind on other matters, in this case higher matters. It shows self sacrifice, which God approves of. Often it is combined with prayer, and done with other members of the same religion, and either during special holy times during the year or for a particular reason.
  20. What did it smell like inside? Looks like you had a great day and picked the car I would have picked too. Envious.
  21. I think the most interesting thing is that it is not proveable either way. Most of the world's population, through their belief in God, would appear to believe in pre-destinisation. Whether Uri Gellar can bend spoons or not with mind power, for me is ultimately not important. Neither is the existence of God and fate. Fete, is a french word of course, and from it we get Feast. Life is feast. Feasting, f*sting, and everything else that begins with F.
  22. its good to see people doing thing like this. eighty years ago people might have played cribbage. It's evolution. Saw some zombies last night, normally I think they are a waste of time, but the movie was good. Resident evil.
