To be honest I think the days of 'pro evo is better' are gone and Fifa has caught up (from what I've been told). I still prefer the modes in Pro Evo and only have PES2009 atm. From what I've heard, Fifa 09 is much improved over 08 but unless you're particularly bothered about the latest game play improvements or specifics of kits/teams etc., I'm sure FIFA 08 will keep you entertained. To me, FIFA has always been the more 'approachable' option - more of a 'pick up and play when you're bored' than an 'immerse yourself entirely until you lose all social skills or interest'. Sadly, PES2009 has completely taken over my life in the last few weeks. I can't get away from the 'Become a Legend' mode.

I completely agree with Branners, Martin and co. on this. I'm 24 and an IT consultant and there's no way I'd have even got close to my job without being able to write properly; although having said that, I've noticed some of the 'youngsters' are now coming through with 'less than perfect' SPAG. I went to a pretty rough school in a poor area of Nuneaton, where probably less than half of my year got 4 or more GCSEs (some of those grades being in the A-G bracket). I have very little time for most of them, not because of their lack of achievement, but that is symptomatic of the reason behind my dislike. They weren't unintelligent people - many of them, in fact, were very intelligent, but they were lazy and, generally, tw@ts with no social skills or respect for other people. I can cope with poor grammar, but a blatant disregard of any kind of sentence structure or effort toward coherence really grinds my gears. Having said that, for the sake of making a Boosh reference... You guys worrying about the change in language are just scared. You fear the lack of rules; the lack of boundaries. Oh, look; a fence. But, no, it's soft! I'm bored.

My best time was about 14.3@101, but most were mid-high 14s. That was the only one I broke 100mph on. It felt a bit slow for some reason - compared to how it feels accelerating on the road anyway. That could be because the car next to me was always going faster though. I don't think it helped starting from idle but I don't know if that's normal for autos on the strip? Will definitely go BPU next year, just having to wait until the end of my current insurance policy. My insurer is ridiculously expensive for mods and they don't offer like for like cover. Only went with them because they were almost the cheapest and would honour the 10 months I completed on my last car as a full year no claims. I'm on a 10 month policy that ends in April so will be able to get a better policy with 3 years no claims then (assuming I don't crash beforehand). I've not been driving 3 years yet and was 23 when I took out the policy so not many companies would touch me on a standard TT, let alone BPU.

lol, nice work on beating the single. My runs were all a bit worse than what I was hoping for, although I'm not really sure what a stock auto TT should get. I'm just glad I haven't had time to fit my active spoiler or do the soundproofing I want to do yet. With the added weight of those I might not have made it up the strip at all. Was awesome fun though and can't wait for next year. Will hopefully be BPU by then as well so should do a bit better. Could definitely do with some form of launch start though.

Ssh, don't tell people, I think that was the only one I won! Was nice to meet you and you saved me the potential embarrassment and danger of having the whole thing ripping off half way up the strip. Plus my car looks well sexy with all the tape now

I had a good day too, although I didn't actually 'meet' anyone, except for the nice man I did my first run against who told me my undertray was hanging low. Turns out I managed to get a big hole in it, which the wind quickly used to rip the pegs out and leave it rather close to the floor (repreatedly). Eventually managed to get it to stay in place with a large amount of white gaffer tape, although I blame the extra drag and then the extra weight of the tape for my poor times I got a bit scared by all the new faces and hid in my car most of the time. Wasn't happy that I got annihilated by a Civic, mind.

One company I had a quote from listed Santa Pod among the tracks they cover but I've seen no mention of any drag specific cover. I just wondered what the general approach is, and since I've never done it before, I didn't want to turn up being the only person without any cover.

Hi all, I've stuck this in Supra Chat since it's Suprapod related... I have been thinking about running my car at Suprapod (hopefully there are still spaces available) but I was wondering what other people are doing about track day insurance for it? Is it usual to get track insurance for a drag day and do people often do damage to themselves/their cars/other cars at events like this? If so, does anyone know of a decent company that will cover your own car and third party damage? The ones I've found so far do one or the other. My insurance company don't offer cover for track days, which is a pain. Cheers, Dan.

Coolio, cheers! What about insurance? I know Sky covers for the event being called off, but what about the car itself? Is that track day cover with my existing policy, or separate cover with a specialist, or ... ?

I haven't done anything like this before (4 months ago I was driving a 1.6 8v Astra, now a TT) but I'm considering running (if I can convince my gf to come along / give me a pass) and was wondering what sort of tyre damage I'm likely to expect? Anyone got a rough measure; like, 10 runs = new rears, or something? Also, do we need to arrange some sort of track day insurance for our cars? Ta.

I started looking around last July/August (was 23 with 2 years driving experience) and all my insurance quotes were ridiculous (£3k+). Joined the forum to find out more about the cars and managed to get a 'decent' quote for insurance around October time. Started looking seriously for one to buy around the same time but was torn between saving the money and getting a loan (which I knew I'd pay off in ~6 months anyway) so was trying to resist an looking in too much detail. I eventually caved and just got a loan (which I managed to pay off the month after I got the car anyway). Tried to see a couple that were what I wanted (black GZ auto with OEM skirts and spats) but they ended up getting sold before I could see them. Got in touch Jurgen (see quote) and started looking for one in Japan. Saw a couple go through that weren't up to scratch and still didn't really find exactly what I was looking for so took a punt on a blue one in Feb that looked decent although standard body, not a GZ and no spoiler (not really what I was initially after but I was getting impatient). It came in under budget, Jurgen fitted the body kit and sorted everything for me and I've not looked back since. I picked the car up in June and it's been a complete joy ever since. Absolutely chuffed to bits with the car. Having it standard from the start worked out really well for me. It had done 30k miles so was mechanically sound and it's been an ongoing project for me getting it how I want it. Still loads I want to do but that's half the fun. So in summary, the only one I looked at to buy, I'd already bought and it's great I highly recommend jm-imports if that's the route you choose to go. Top service and Jurgen's a top guy (not that I'm pining for a go in the GTR or anything )

At weekends (from Cheltenham to Watford and back and a bit of driving around) I average about 300 miles (480kms) to most of a full tank (I think it usually works out about 24.5mpg) in a J-spec TT. To and from work during the week (about 8 miles each way) and just to shops etc. I get about 18mpg. Those calculations are based on a little bit of overlap though. Properly combined I probably get about 21-22. Both are generally careful/normal driving with the occasional release of boredom in a 0-100 'test'

Would a UK fit a J-spec TT? I'm guessing it probably would. South Yorkshire might be a bit too far for me to come though - 140+ miles each way from me atm - but will bear it in mind. Cheers.
