  1. is this fella even interested in the thread he started? no replies. im guessing this is another one of them newbie threads which is based around achieving 500bhp. what is it with 500bhp? whats wrong with 480 or 620? why does everyone strive for bang on 500bhp?!
  2. 30 mpg! the best i have seen is 25, and that was on a run. best not to worry yourself with mpg's. lets face it; fuel, tax, and insurance are all part and parcel of car ownership. paying that little extra for a supra is worth it. the thing to worry about is that these cars are getting old, and many of them have been abused. crank pulleys, turbo failure, valve stem seals perishing, bushes going, wheels bearing and drive shaft wear.... just a few things that'll keep your overdraft awake at night. but i do agree, you could get a very nice mr2 turbo for that money - just dont plan on driving it around corners in the rain
  3. whats on the list so far? would it not be better to save up and buy the kit in one hit? suprastore are doing a t61 na-t kit for £1000
  4. get him to buy a heap of s**t and insure it fully comp, then get your dad to insure the supra fully comp. your brother will then be able to drive it 3rd party without having to be named on the insurance. or maybe wait until he's at an age to insure a group 16 car?? it'd be a shame to pay more than what the car's worth in insurance

  6. 1400kg, and 180-200 bhp after 16 years of abuse. the figures arent exactly awe inspiring. it wasnt the case back in the 90's with competition from 300zx's, mr2's, corrado's etc...etc. but put a stock n/a up against anything current and relatively "sporty", i.e golf gt-TDI (yes diesel), and the 160bhp nissan micra, and you will have a fight on your hands. i found that unfortunately n/a's are all show and no go, this isnt a problem it just depends on what you want from your car. i owned an n/a for four months then part ex'd it for a tt, and i personally think stating that a tt is ovrrated is just crazy!!
  7. like i said, i got a bag of assorted core plugs from ebay, they were cheap and arrived pretty quickly. was easier to sift through a bag of assorted bag of plugs to match it up with one that would fit well. im sure toyota would be able to order one in for you but theyre readily available at a few different places online also. if you were planning on prizing it out with a screwdriver, what i did was: lightly puncture the plug at a central point, and very gently lever it out putting pressure all around the plug. be very careful not to damage the bore. i sealed the new plug with blue hylomar
  8. i had this on my old n/a a couple years back. managed to pop the core plug out, in-situ, using the precision of a mallet and screwdriver. i bought a bag of assorted plugs off of ebay, found one that matched, and popped it back in. easy job, just dont drive it untill its replaced
  9. cheers everyone; just liked the look of this controller, there plenty of places i could mount it in the dash and it looks fairly simple. it would compliment the aem afr gauge which is one its way. i'll be ordering one from mvp later this week, will post up my own feedback if anyone is reading this for future reference.
  10. has anyone had one of these? just looking for some feedback before buying. it looks as though its one of them "exactly what it says on the tin" bits of kit, just controls boost with no fannying about. anyone had any issues with them? cheers
  11. im after the attached door trim
  12. i bought a thor convertor and tsd a couple of weeks ago; i fitted it last weekend using spade connectors, all fitted as per instuctions. i go for a test drive, and i get nothing. i decided to take it all apart and start again, this time soldering and heatshrinking the joints. finished soldering everything back, gone for a test drive, and nothing...again. i took everything apart again to check the circuits for continuity; check the 12v supply, the ground, speed input, speed output, all fine. the only thing that seems suspicious is flow through the pcb from the speed input (green wire), to the speed output (white wire) - basically what i want to know is, if i put a multimeter probe on the board connection of the green wire (speed input), and the other probe on the board connection of the white wire (speed output) should i be getting continuity through the pcb? just trying to eliminate possible faults, and the only thing im thinking at the moment is that its the new convertor itself.
  13. maybe a bit of a budget route, but i bought two brand new KYB rear shocks last weekend and fitted them in about 2 hours. they were £130 for the set and seem to be doing the job very well.
  14. can anyone recommend a good, general engine building book? ive seen a few on tinternet and a couple in a yankee muscle car mag, but im after something tried and tested
  15. someone stop me if being overly dramatic...but i feel owning a supra is as more a hobby/interest than having a cool looking car to drive. probably read into the marque and learn all the ins and outs before deciding if you want one. at the end of the day they are, (despite being 15 years old and being dragged into autotrader bargain section), still an; exotic, expensive, demanding car to own. no offense either, because i dont know what financial position youre in, but even n/a's are still a little thirsty, tyres arent cheap, servicing can be pricey, insurance on import cars is high especially given your age...and so on. in my experience, the majority of students have low fundage. sounds like a bit of a put off but i guess if the car is going to be an occassional driver, then things like cost of fuel, and tyres wont really affect you. on the other hand, do you want to spend £220 pa on tax, and a possible £1000 on insurance for a car that sits stationary on a driveway? sounds like a complete downer, but if you can afford one, get one. the only thing to bear in mind is that the initial expense of buying the car is only the beginning
  16. i've always wanted a fast car decal stuck to my dash
  17. ha! me and my mrs hit financial difficulties last year which resulted in me deciding to sell the supra. she wouldnt let me, so i kept the car. to add to that, she also mentioned me getting the money together to stick a single in it "if thats what you want to do". if they really loved you they'd understand
  18. i was informed that i was being made redundant in early november due to the company up and moving miles away. i was told i wouldnt get FA due to the fact of having worked there 1 year and 11 mths, not the 2 years required. i accepted this and thought f**k it i'll find another job. anyway, i found another job and handed 4 weeks notice in; 3 days before i was due to leave, everyone in the building was taken into the office to have a talk with the director......exept me. it turned out that everyone who hadnt managed to find a job was given 3 months pay, tax free, as a good will gesture, regardless of how long they had been there. this was announced 3 days before i left; i kicked up, but because i'd got off my a*se and found a job, i didnt qualify. still a sore point.. [ANGRY][/ANGRY] lets kick off a civil war and put clarkson in charge

you wouldnt like her, she's pregnant and runs split rims into curbs. as for the xkr, pics can be googled, but they seriously dont do the car an ounce of justice. looks like a frickin hyundai coupe in pictures.

could try that but im kinda done with deceiving her, well maybe once more for the road. she's aleady under the impression that shes on my insurance policy so she can also use "our" car. little does she know that its saving me £200 a year having her on the policy, and she will never drive my car again after the curbing incident. maybe i am too young for a jag anyway

i love my supra; its the car i have always wanted and was the only car i ever wanted. i very rarely see a car that completely blows me away, but lastnight i went to the jag garage in coventry with the old man to get some bits for his s-type. i had seen this particular car on top gear but in the flesh it is absolutely stunning. if anyone hasnt seen one and passes a jag garage; go see the new XKR. the one i was looking at lastnight was £41k and worth every penny. thats all.......
  23. if anyone gets the chance; look up a documentary called rumble in the jungle. it was on channel four a few months ago and it was cracking. saw ali in a completely different light.
