    fri3ndly its because you have position:absolute; on #main-menu. Take this and height 100% off (i assume your only doing this for the background colour). Then do the col one background as a 1px image repeating down the page on the wrapper, this would give the illusion that col one is 100%. Thats how i would do it Hope that makes sense
