SRD - Ridox Single Turbo Project Build Continued.....
kermit2 replied to Carbon_Bullet's topic in Supra Chat
I am in need of a new ecu loom quickly are you still breaking -
Bought a 4.2 cerbera 9 years ago and out of the 3 years I had it 2 of those years was spend in the dealers being repaired the windscreen wiper packed in on one occasion 6 months later and £3000 spent I finally got it back no wiring loom diagram could be found (TVR said its up to the individual who wired it and he no longer works here) so Lucas spend 3 weeks going through the wiring to find the problem, total nightmare. Finally swapped it for a tt manual supra and what a difference still got it now superb quality compared to a tvr TVR's reputation for build quality finally caught up with them, I think a Russian tried to rebuild the company but to no avail in my opinion stay away from TVR's unless you just keep it in the garage to look at, or are prepared to spend lots to keep it on the road

Thanks for the info that may well confirm what others have said, you may well be right regarding oil. I had an oil change done in Germany about 2 months ago and they put in a castrol 5/60, Leon at JPS told me off, said it should be around 10/40 so I,m sure that didn't help an already worn turbo, also heat is a problem, this time of year all temperatures remain normal on the Ring. but during the summer on hot days they get far to high, which may well have contributed to the turbo problem, the cause of the warped head was pushing to hard on a hot day dicing with a couple of GT3's when the fan belt broke causing the water to instantly boil luckily the head was still scimable so no permanent damage and is a testament to how well built these engines are to take this kind of punishment year after year. So I think the turbo has done well concidering its use and perhaps the stage 2+ may well take the punisment a little better
-
I am sure you will enjoy it why not tag along with Steve and Simon next year I sure Steve will organise another trip
-
Thanks Simon I agree cheapest option is repair the stage 1 but the 2+ was tempting (to be or not to be that is the question)
-
Hi Steve Agree regarding the problem, I also am no expert but the engine has just been stripped down with new piston rings, race bearings, and and High lift cam shaft fitted, it has been suggested it could be valve stem seals but they have all just been replaced so unlikely. JPS motorsport and the local turbo people have suggested the turbo, as on the overrun they say the shaft will move slightly on a worn turbo causing the oil to seep into the manifold so I am at the mercy of the experts on this one Still on stock ECU and agree should be replaced with a programmable one but to costly at the moment so still relying on boost and fuel controllers to map up but seems to work OK but of course cannot fine tune as with a programmable one Jamie the car has done 7.54 with Gareth driving there are 2 videos on youtube one being filmed by a biker on an R1 just type in supra at the nurburgring to watch if you wish. As you say Steve, will accept any advice from experts on this one, as we are only assuming its a badly worn turbo

As some of you guys know this car lives at nurburg, I fly over 6/7 times a year and just drive it on the Ring 3 years ago I fitted a PHR stage 1 turbo running 1.35 bar with 550 injectors and with a lighter than standard car provided ample power last weekend i noticed clouds of smoke from the exhaust on the overrun, the local turbo engineers diagnosed a worn turbo cost to rebuild little over £400 now my dilemma is I have been offered a second hand stage 2+ 1000 miles (road used only) for £600 the question is do I buy and fit it, for an extra £200 seems a good opportunity. As the car is only used on track my main concern is turbo lag The way i figure it although having slightly more power, more lag could make for a slower lap, altering the character of the car, I have absolutely no problem with the stage 1 it works perfectly and provides very little lag once it is up and running, but the stage 2 is tempting So the question is will i regret it? is the stage 2 that different from the stage 1 and how will it alter if any the driving chararistics on a track, and has anyone changed from a 1 to a 2+ and what diference have you found The other issue will be injectors, having possibly to upgrate will be more money and is all realy worth it. before commiting your comments will be greatly appreciated

Hi guys dont spend much time on the forum, but pop in now & again the ring is about the only place to see it now as I leave it over there and fly over 5/6 times a year Just drove it home for the winter. last lap of the year and the turbo decided it had enough, oil seals worn I think and now blue smoke on the overrun from the exhaust so some repair work needed me thinks
-
Glad you found a good Supe Steve, shame to reroute through the exhaust co's they do sound nice on full boost, and apparently I'v been told it Will restrict a bit of BHP. There are only 2 tracks that I visit where it trips the drivby meters and thats Donington & Goodwood so I had a small muffler made that fits to the end of the down pipe and shaped to be strapped to the exhaust pipe take just seconds to fit but just muffles the the noise enough to get on track. Has Bignum still got his camera hidden in the spoiler. a couple of weeks ago the marshalls got wind of a car with a bullet cam in the front spoiler pulled him over and found it behind the mesh they made him take it off was not banned though but it was close, depends on the marshall that finds it and what mood he's in I think
-
the exhaust is very quiet just 93bds at 4500 revs so fine with noise, always a bit concerned with driveby though due to waistgate noise, but have had no problems at the ring so far. They are enforcing exhaust noise quite severely I had 3 marshals stand behind my car last Saturday all listening to me pulling away from the barrier, If it sounds anywhere near close to the limit of 98dbs they will noise test you and its a long way to go to be turned away at the barrier when I acquired the car it had a Blitz system at 104 bds totally useless for me as its only used for track work, so spent a lot of money to replace the system to make it Quiet also to reshape and raise it up as the car was set low and the Blitz was touching the ground at the depression, especially at the ring so all is good now
-
This was totally my fault as there is a site with the photo of the car with the title see the video, well what can you expect thats taking the mickey really, I was far two complacent and got what I deserved, I think not to get paranoid over this it was just a one off, nothing much has changed, in the past if you were stoped at the barrier with a camera you were told to remove it, I not sure now, there has been enough publicity on the subject it just might be an automatic ban for the day so be very careful but there is still 4 ring videos a day being posted on youtube so what does that tell you I will be there in July see you there
-
Hi Steve, yea that was me being far two complacent with the whole thing, Heres the link Sorry the link belows appears not to work it might be because you have to be a member to log on to the forum I will find out (Yes its members only) http://z8.invisionfree.com/Northloop/index.php?act=Track&f=1&t=9200 What worries some is that this is a first ban of this type that means its moving to a new level because this ban was for posting a video, on saying that the car stands out like a sore thumb and all the Marshall's know the car so it wasn't rocket science for them to identify the car that took the video. It could have been a lot worse I buy a JK each year they could have taken that away so no more videos from the Kermit, anyone got any black paint
-
Mike (Just changing the subject slightly Im sure Steve wont mind) I cant remember whether I spoke to you last year on this subject, but I'm looking to leave the car over there for the season and just fly, so much easier and less wear and tear ect, there are two ways either leave the car at Nurburg and fly to Frankfurt from my local airport Southampton then hire a car, or store the car near an airport which would then save on car hire. if you are around 1.5 hrs north of the ring would that put you near Düsseldorf and if so do you know of any lockups or long term car parks or any garage that can store a car for a reasonable monthly cost. Dont worry if there is nothing around, Ive always got plan one, I'm just trying to aviod the car hire Regards George
