  1. Found the Article http://www.examiner.ie/ireland/motorists-face-tax-bill-for-off-the-road-cars-177198.html Motorists face tax bill for ‘off the road’ cars By Gordon Deegan Wednesday, December 14, 2011 CASH-STRAPPED households will have to pay tax for cars that are "off the road" under controversial plans being drawn up by the Government. The move to close the loophole that exempts the payment of motor tax when a car is parked up will further anger motorists already facing a range of increased costs after the budget and families who have been forced to take second cars off the road. The measure is set to net the state €40 million per annum — just short of the €47m per annum the Government will raise in the 7% motor tax increase announced in the budget. According to an internal Department of Transport document, it has been agreed in principle with the Department of the Environment that legislation should be introduced to close the legal provision for non-payment of motor tax for a period while a vehicle is reported to the gardaí as being "off the road". The document states: "It is believed that there is considerable abuse of this provision and that the legislative change proposed is in the interest of overall fairness." The spending review states: "The Department of the Environment will have responsibility for the legislation and it has been agreed that the proceeds should be shared equally between roads and local authorities." The briefing document states: "The full-year benefit to this department, when fully implemented, will be at least €40m. We have assumed that it will take a couple of years for a full culture of compliance to emerge, and have therefore built in an expectation of around €13.5m in 2012, €26m in 2013 and the full €40m in 2014." Figures provided by the Department of Transport show motor tax receipts were €1.06 billion in 2008, reducing to €1.024bn last year, with final receipts for 2011 expected to be in the order of €998m. Director of policy with AA Ireland Conor Faughnan described the new measure as "unfair". "Natural justice would suggest that if you are, say for example, a doctor and working abroad for six months, you should not have to tax your car back in Ireland for that time when it isn’t in use." Mr Faughnan said the new measure "has nothing to do with good governance. It is just another way of raising taxes and clearly penalises motorists who don’t have their cars on the road". Mr Faughnan said the move is not about closing a legal loophole. "It wasn’t a loophole. It was clearly provided for, that if your car was off the road, you didn’t have to pay road tax. "The €47m from the increase in road tax and the €40m from the closing of this provision is a lot of money, but it is quite small compared to the €4bn the Government generates in fuel taxes. "There are a suite of taxes against the motorist that are riddled with unfairness," he said. However, Fianna Fáil’s transport spokesman Timmy Dooley said the loophole is being widely abused. "From reports from Garda stations around the country there has been, I understand, a significant element of tax evasion going on by motorists concerning the ‘off the road’ provision. "The McCarthy report identified this loophole and the closing of it can generate significant revenues and it would lead to greater equity in the paying of motor tax," he said. 5. It was in the paper last week again about compulsory motor tax regardless if u use it or not Government are loosing too much money on the emissions tax becasue people are getting greener cars I also was chatting to a car dealer the weekend and he confirmed it is coming in, he expects it early in the new year. Hopefully they thinking along the lines of implemeting a similar system to SCORN, but they want revenue and no easier way to get it. Jim: Sorry Jim, I got it mixed up with the new UK legislation around compulsary Insurance regarless if the car is off the road , this is not here yet Not a chance of they will put the tax in the fuel so you pay as you drive. Afraid they would loose more revenue! http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/motors/2011/1012/1224305633573.html Jim any tyre places up your way, Supra needs a new pair of shoes! Prices down here are crazy, they want 1.5K but I can get the same tyres from Camskill for 600-700 euro delivered
  6. iforged also do custom wheels speced to the car? Love the XL Turismo
  7. I taught Bride seats are suppose to be comfy, looking great Gaz but that would annoy me after paying all that cash
  8. Shane let us know who you used, where yours curbed at all and are you still retaining the polished lip? Only place I know over here is the Wheeldoctor who can do a polished lip
  9. I taught it was more to do with the Seals in the fuel system? A few guys over here ran Bioethnol mix with regular petrol, 40 to 60 % mix and had no issues
  10. The Government is to change the rules surrounding downloading in Ireland, in a new attempt to curb illegal downloading of music and movies. Authorities are to close a loophole that currently allows Irish people access to sites that offer pirated material. The Department of Enterprise, Innovation and Jobs is expected to publish an order allowing entertainment producers to seek court orders barring internet service providers from offering access to gateway sites. The Government is expected to introduce the new order in January in response to recent warnings from record companies that they might pursue legal action, if rules were not changed. Read more: http://breakingnews.ie/ireland/govt-set-to-change-rules-around-internet-downloading-532719.html#ixzz1h4QRAYRA Does the UK have anything implemented, just wondering any way around it if the Internet providers are made block access to Torrent sites?
  11. They are bring in compulsory motor tax regardless if u use it or not, like in the UK, UK implemented it a few months back.they won't allow u declare it off the road, u will have to pa u the back tax and it will be illegal to allow the car motor tax lapse, just looking at this option or either sell it, not worth paying 1500 a year
  12. Mine is already vrt'd, so worse case they tell me to put I back on Irish plates, but I have a micra too so could argue I use, that down here most if,the time
  13. Stephen is getting a house in Derry, was going to register it on ni plates, mot it and drive her down here, I'm paying 650 euro fully comp just the road tax is mad for only driving it a handful if days a month in the summer , either that or sell up, getting worse and worse down here with vat increase, petrol, new household tax and water charges, worth the risk for 80 pound, you only need to pay vrt once so customs can't do me for that, once she is insured mot and taxed I can't see the guards being able to do anything
  14. Thinking of registering the car up north, compulsory motor tax of 1500,is going to come in down here. What's the insurance like up north

  16. Will do in the new year, but it is 450 euro so dont have the $$ at the moment
  17. Cold last winter killed my Boost controller solenoid/pressure sensor, 125 euro each to get a new one! My spolier has some hiarline cracks on the edge due to the cold and due to freeze thaw action they have slowly expanded, need to get this fixed! Plus the underneath looked very dated compared to before the winter (I never drove her over the winter, sure they dont use Salt like they do in the UK here); I was shocked when I put her up on the ramp, she was alot cleaner under there. This was after she was sitting up outside for about 4 months with a wash every so often. My car is waxed up to the hilt with Swiss Vax but this year I am going to WD40 the underneath and engine bay, door hinges etc She took a hammering last winter, and will cost me about 200 euro to repair her, same price nearly to have her sitting in a de-humidified garage; if you can garage her or at least get a cover, where I live if I put a cover on her she will get clamped ao this is why I didnt last year!
  18. Mine came off!! , Didnt rip but looking for indoor storage now! Best I seen is 60euro a month @ 1 hours drive from me How bad is it for the car to leave it outside uncovered, 3-4 months?
  19. Just want to ask a Q, wheres is the most accurate place to measure Boost pressure? I run my AVCR Boost controller and Defi off the same Vacuum pipe but get differenct readings; I go with the Defi becasue the AVCR just read 0.3 bar at 1.2 on the Defi! Is it common for the sensor's in boost controllers to go? The unit is relatively new and definetly no boost leaks so I presume it is the sensor, I think the cold winter last year killed it.
  20. We are in for the same over here, I have her tied underneath the car, at each wheel and on the rear the strap is hooked onto the exhaust; I cannot see it coming off, I also have the Aldi cover XL on underneath the Silver one, the aldi was a better fit but just not big enough to cover the rear too , still not bad for 30 euro
  21. Heres my 30 euro ebay cover on a TRD car
