  1. I will take a look, thanks. AFAIK it's got "normal" plugs as it was serviced here in Feb and the plugs would have been changed then. Will be safe and buy some colder ones anyway. Is the current recommendation still IK22s?
  2. I can certainly take some pictures. Also going to get her up onto a 4-post lifter this week sometime to have a good ogle. Certainly seems like fuel cut. It was a "thunk", and loss of power, and I got a warning light on the dash for about 10 - 20 seconds afterwards. Does that sound about right?
  3. Hi All! Have been away for the weekend, had a lovely trip down to Devon and *definately* proved the car ( 2 adults in the front + camping gear in the back!) Am defaintely double decat - my knowledgable friends down there could tell from the incredible noise from the engine/exhaust. I will have a look at the instructions for the boost controller, Nic thanks very much. For some reason on the way down to Devon while giving it some beans in 4th gear on the motorway I got fuel cut. Scared the willies out of me because it sounded like something in the engine going clunk! Reproduced it again and I got to 1.01 bar according to the readout before it happened again - perhaps the extra load in the car caused everything to work a bit harder. Got some great stares by the seaside
  4. Cool thanks! I looked under the car earlier and it definately looks like one long drainpipe from the back to the engine, no cats visible. I thought one might be in the engine bay, obviously not *grin* It's a Blitz Dual-SBC, with an LCD in the car showing the current boost. Two buttons/knobs on it...
  5. And a good job you did too. The engine bay looks as good as or even better than my Audi did at 1 year old. Sent you a PM by the way.
  6. If I can work out how to work the boost controller, I can try setting it higher perhaps, and see if I get fuel cut? Good to hear about the MOT though
  7. OK - nice one. So chances are I have a RR or a Cat restricting my boost?
  8. Yep I of course have the full run down from Gaz but he had inherited the car "as is" himself, so there may be some differences, I mean on an 11 year old car it's hard to capture *exactly* what's been done. Prime example being it's apparently full de-cat but still goes through an MOT so I am not sure if it's true or not... Worth pointing out that nothing I say on this forum is any dig at Gaz or anything like that - I've got an amazing car from him and can't fault it, but I plan to get my hands a little more dirty with it
  9. Would the boost controller be limiting the turbo to 0.9 or something like that though?
  10. Hi All!! So chuffed today after picking up my new car from SupraGaz. It drives lovely, a much smoother ride than my GTS-T. I am trying to work out how far along the road to BPU this car is at. It has an aftermarket boost gauge that peaks at 0.9 bar and a Blitz boost controller with Japanese instructions, so I am not touching it (but I'd like to know how it works). It has what looks like a straight through exhaust which sounds lovely, and I can't see any cats under the car (unless I put his bowl under there I suppose ) and Gaz says it's had both cats removed. Fair enough, but it passed it's MOT yesterday with no problems, is there any chance this could happen on a full de-cat? Where is cat number one so I can do a visual check? There's no FCD as far as I can tell - where would it be? Finally, what would I need to do for full BPU - I am guessing, FCD and get someone to fiddle with the boost controller, and maybe get the RR swapped out, if indeed it has one, again no idea. Dying to get out of work and drive her again now!!
  11. Ah but bear in mind that's your turbo timer telling you that. It has a vested interest in making itself look useful
  12. Need to pay for petrol I hope the rest of the w/e is as nice as today though. Going down Devon way for a couple of nights camping, hopefully there's some nice roads down that way too...
  13. Woohoooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Just drove from Dover to Central London and amazingly didn't get too much traffic, there were some lovely clear roads... Parked next to my office in a multi-storey car park (that was stressful) and just have a few hours work to do now... Then a nice drive home. Gaz has supplied me with a lovely motor, it looks even better in the flesh and I look forward to tinkering once I learn more about what I am doing! James
  14. Thanks! However I think I might be sorted. I am now picking the car up tomorrow, instead of Sat so no need to faff about with trains etc on Sat James
  15. Well exactly, I know what I would do, but some random Japanese person must have wanted that boost controller really badly *grin*
  16. Cheers much appreciated - am trying to sort out last minute things now... will update!
  17. Right guys I am trying to formulate a plan, I'd love to come along to this, and coincidentally I may be picking up a Supra from somewhere in Kent tomorrow if it passes it's MOT today *fingers crossed* Was going to get the train from Swindon but if anyone coming from Wiltshire maybe we could sort something out? Cheers, James
  18. I guess that pretty much clears it up for me, still a little confused though about how it all works. The whole reason I ask is that the car I am buying has a boost controller (blitz dual SBC), and the second cat is out because of an aftermarket exhaust system - and it's apparently run at 0.9 bar and no higher - apart from that it's stock. No idea if it would have an RR already installed but I would check. Basically just wonder what's the point of the boost controller on a J-spec if you have to use an RR to get the amount of boost you need. There must have been reason to fit it in the first place
  19. You coming from Wiltshire? I am in Swindon. I only just noticed this thread, and it may somehow tie in to actually picking up my first Supe if all goes to plan *touch wood* as it's in the right part of the country (ish). Will people be there quite late? Current plan is to pick up the car 7pm ish but I guess that is a bit late to be able to show it off at the meet. Would still like to see other's cars though James
  20. OK, but that still seems like what I was saying is correct. I'd be boosting to 1.1 bar, the only resistance being a RR sized for 1.2 bar, i.e. not much resistance at all. If it was the other way round, there'd be more resistance, surely?
  21. Anyone recommend a place that does relatively cheap turbos? I need a T28 or whatever a stock skyline one is. It went bang yesterday (or so we think) Cheers James
  22. 'scuse my ignorance guv but this seems counter-intuitive to me. If you're restricting the airflow out the back with a RR to 1 bar and then telling the turbo to supply 1.1 or 1.2 bar, what happens to that extra pressure? In my mind, putting in a RR at 1.2 bar then setting the boost controller to whatever you want , 0.9, 1.1 etc ensures that you won't get above 1.2 bar by mistake. So tell me, what am I missing here
  23. Excellent stuff! I think it's more to do with the fact all my friends smoke and like to have the excuse for a pre-journey fag! Will re-educate my friends when I see them... and help save the planet by saving fuel
  24. Hi Guys Didn't find a proper answer to this while searching the forums, but I need to ask one more newbie-ish question that's again quite likely to start a holy war or something. My daily driver is a diesel audi and I am a firm believer in getting in the car, starting the engine immediately but obviously not hammering the engine until it's warm. Supe's may be a completely different kettle of fish... Many of my friends which slightly higher perfoming cars tend to start the car and have a ciggy while it "warms up" before driving away. Is there any point to doing this or is it a waste of fuel? Then on the other hand, what about cooling down - I know a turbo timer is a popular mod but is it really needed? What about just laying off the boost for the last few minutes of the journey?
  25. My brother and I have had the Skyline for nearly a year now - in that time the front plate has been on the front dash. I would like to be as legit as I possibly can though but I just can't see anwhere to put a normal sized plate on a Supe with a kit on it
