  1. Wow, maplin still sell resistors? I thought they just sold doorbells and radio controlled 4x4s now!
  2. Hmmm sounds like those pesky little chips that fool the ecu into thinking you're running less boost than you are! . . . oh, wait...
  3. Cheers guys, I do have an original key, so I could get an official one. I won't be if it's £50 though of course
  4. The flickr one looks like L142 WJB to me, so similar but nay
  5. I'm working on a silly little project to get me started with automotive electronic control and this involves controlling my indicators with a little processor (a PIC). Up until now I had assumed that the indicators would be connected through a relay, like most electrical bits in the car. However from looking at the wiring diagrams, it seems that actual current for the bulbs is going through the switch in the indicator stalk, no relays involved. This might be a problem for me because I don't yet know how much current I will need to switch for the indicators. Can anyone confirm this as fact? I'm not too sure I am interpreting the wiring diagram correctly as they are new to me. Cheers James
  6. Certainly am bud, cheers. I will give him a go.
  7. I *think* they are already braided. I didn't know it when I got the car, but when I took the wheels off and had a poke around, the short section from the caliper is a metallic braided hose. I assume the rest of the brake line up to the engine bay is metal anyway, isn't it?
  8. Yeah, good point - he'll be putting his pads on the rear so might as well get him to do the front while he's there
  9. Cheers mate, I think I should be OK though, I work in London and with any luck I'll find a place that can do it here. Just keep forgetting to bring the supra key to work!!
  10. Hi Guys My car is just about to get back on the road from having some accident damage corrected. Because this has been going on for so long I've been saving up all the little (and not so little) jobs for it, and have the following parts ready to be ordered for CW to fit: Full set of new suspension components (Nic) New OEM SMIC (Nic) New HKS SSQV (Nic) New Front Headlights (Facelift, so plastic) (Nic) New 02 Sensor (Nic) Jobs being done by CW Fit new suspension bits Replace shocks and springs with "Proper" Bilsteins and CW springs Cam belt Fit UK spec rear brakes (have UK fronts already) 1st de-cat and RR Replace gearbox seals (slight leak) Fit EGT / AFM / OT sensors Can anyone think of anything I should be thinking about doing at the same time? Cheers, James
  11. Fair play, I must have been unlucky with the two places I went to. The first one was funny - the guy was peering at the key, called his mate over, ummm'ed and ahhh'd and said he can't do that one!
  12. As above really. Only have one key currently. j-spec if it matters
  13. I have a Carrera Subway 8 from halfords that I got a couple of years ago. It's like a cross betweena mountain bike and a road racer, disc brakes, enclosed gears, low/no maintenance. I think they are called town bikes or something like that. And, it's black, even has black spokes *grin* James
  14. Cool, might have to give mine a clean. Rotor arms seem awfully low tech though. Do modern cars have them? Be cool to have a processor controlling the spark or something, Hmmmmm
  15. The bank I work for is interviewing for a solaris sysadmin role, in the city if that is your sort of thing and you fancy commuting on the train...
  16. Apparently the 5 engine drops straight into a 4, so I would guess they changed it all in the 6...
  17. Hi All My EVO's engine has blown up - apparently the balancer shaft let go and it pee'd all it's oil out of the dipstick and shagged the pistons... (compression all over the place) As this is a shared car with my brother we are on a budget and are thinking of doing an engine swap ourselves, maybe sticking an Evo 5 lump in there. My brother and I are by no means experts, but we are fairly competent home mechanics, have done turbo replacements and timing belts etc in the past. Do you think this is a feasible job for us? We can get hold of an engine hoist, and I feel quite happy about the timing end of the engine and the ancilliaries, the only thing that scares me is how all the linking to the clutch/gearbox works... any majorly special tools needed? Cheers! James
  18. Perfect, can always count on those radio HAMs... unless that's his car reg...
  19. Ooo! That's an idea mate, I completely forgot about those babies. Worth considering, cheers.....
  20. Hi All Have just picked up a Velleman PIC experimentation kit to learn about these little devices and have been thinking about using one to control various aspects of the car. I am basically after general advice on how to interface a device with ~5v CMOS type outputs to 12v low current type systems in the car. Example - say my headlights are controlled by a relay that uses 12v to switch over (well, I imagine they are) and I want the PIC controller to control this. I don't really want to use another 5v relay to control the 12v, that would suck! I have extremely vague memories from school about transistors being able to act as little relays or switches but most of the info I can find on the net regards using them as amplifiers. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Cheers! James
  21. Hi All I may have sourced a bumper (but still please get in touch if you have one for sale) but I still do need some spats now, geniune preferred. Cheers James
  22. Hey all, still haven't got my car on the road as I've been waiting for a bumper for ages and just been told the one I was going to buy is broken. So, I need, fairly urgently, a j-spec rear bumper (facelift if that makes a difference) either gunmetal, unpainted, or any other colour (in that order of preference!!) Also need spats, either veilside or oem, or whatever really, what have you got?? Cheers James
  23. I used to have a couple of ferrets. Sure they are funny buggers to look at and play with but they used to wreck the carpet and the underneath of the sofa, they'd burrow up and get into the upholstery and well, ferret around! Plus the smell, and the fact they'd sit in the (large) cage all night making noise wanting to come out and play... now they live with my ex and I'm quite happy about that! A robo-ferret with an off button and no stink would be cool though!
