Hi all, Driving to work this morning, my engine light came on. I pulled over, switched off and left it for a few moments and when I started it up again, the light was off. It came on again about 5 minutes later. This happened about 3 times and then stopped happening for the rest of my journet to work. Nothing seemed untoward with the car, it was running at the normal temperature and everything seemed OK. It's just been picked up for a service, so I'm hoping that will sort the problem, but I don't know. Any advice? Thanks guys, Mike

Woo!! Passed! Looks like it was that vacuum hose that through everything out of whack! Damn am I relieved! Thanks for your help guys! Mike

I reset the ECU and ran the car for about 20 mins, there was some white smoke. But it hasn't been run for about a week, I'm getting the retest tommorow, so I'll let you know how it goes. Someone said that my lambda sensor may have gone... hope not.

Hmz, Not sure, I've not had them removed. But I don't know if they were removed before I bought it. Mike

Thanks for the reply. He fixed the hose, but it still failed. Natural idle was OK. It was the revs idle that failed. Sorry to sound dumb, but what are 0 cats? Cheers, Mike

Hi all, Just failed my MOT on emissions. There was a vacuum hose that was leaking air which the guy fixed for me, he seemed to think that this might have affected a sensor somewhere down the line. Whats the best course of action now? Thanks. Mike

So, many months on and I have solved my problem. I replaced the shocks. Stock Toyota ones, no knocking now. Just bouncy bouncy as I drive over Croydon's finest pot holes. Cheers, Mike

Mine does it too! I love it!

HAHA! Thats quality. *jots it down in his new compilation "Top 100 excuses for spending money"*
-
lol, Why did I never think of that as an excuse; "But darling, I need to spend more money on it, it's simply not fast enough dear!".
-
I should have said, mines completey stock, even the wheels.

I've had 150 out of mine (obviously on a track, although it was a little bit M25 junction 7 shaped) That was before I boltled and slowed down, I reckon there was still a bit to go. Mind you, that was the day after I bought her. I think my bottle has gone up a bit now.

Supra_Al, Does this happen only when you go over bumps and stuff? Or have a really uneven road surface? It sounds like it might be the same as my knocking. Let me know how you fare..!

It's because my missus works there, she can get me a discount. I just wondered about the part numbers. The person who she spoke with needed to know the size of the tyres to be able to tell me what shocks I needed. As Toyota don't do the Blisteins as an option anymore.

Hi all, Got this from Toyota (my missus works there): Is this right? Front shock absorbers - 48510-19285 x 2 - £22.30 each Rear shock absorbers - 48530-19516 x 2 - £27.08 each Are the part numbers correct for a JZA80 Cheers, Mike

Terminator, They are both photographs from the front of the car, under the engine as it were. The diagrams from Mkiv.com don't look particularly accurate when you actually get under the car, so I just took the 4 top ones that are hidden right up inside as 92 ft/lbs and the ones that are lower down as 148 ft/lbs. I'm not overly sure if it's right, but it seemed to "feel" right.

After tightening up all the bolts underneath (some of which were only finger tight!) the knocking persists. Back to the drawing board! Here are some images of the particular nuts for other people who want to tighten their nuts: http://www.v0od0o.com/images/front.jpg http://www.v0od0o.com/images/back.jpg

Theres one thing that I am not sure about. In the "I don't creak anymore"post, Terminator says: To check the front bolts you need a 17mm deep socket on the end of at least a 6” extension bar for the rears you need a 19mm socket torque settings 92ftlb and 148ftlb respectively. Does that mean a socket that is 17mm deep, or a deep socket with a 17mm diameter? Thanks in advance, Mike

Steve! Thanks for that, Jax has mentioned you have a Supra, we'll have to meet up sometime and swap war stories. I've got to buy a torque wrench today anyway as I need to smack the beetle about a bit. I printed out the settings on the manual from the US site. Do the bolts have any kind of metal washer? Because this jingling sound has appeared a I think it may be caused by this aswell. Cheers, Mike

Hi all, I have a knocking coming from the front offside (STILL!) and a mechanic has had a look and is unable to spot anything loose. I was reading "I don't creak anymore :) and was wondering if this could be the same problem as mine? THe only thing is, my supe doesnt creak, it knocks whenver I go over a bump, but I do have the steering problem that is mentioned, where it feels a bit unsteady and front end wobbly over bumps. I suppose theres no harm in me getting underneath and having a look, the only thing is I don't have a torque wrench, can I just tighten her up by hand? Thanks for your help! Mike

I've got a question. My work want me to stick a car park pass to the right hand side of my windscreen, the drivers side. Now, not only is it bloody annoying having it there, I was under the impression that legally, you weren't allowed to stick anything on the drivers side. Is it an MOT failure? I really don't want to stick it there. Cheers, Mike

Hello, I've got a knocking coming from the front offside whenever I drive over something like a drain hole cover or something. I was wondering whether anyone else has had this and could tell me what it is? Could it be the bushes? Or a loose suspension mount? Thanks in advance. V0o
