Gotta love a nice shot of adrenalin though! I got mine the other day when I turned the slip control on my TT off and lost the rear end in the wet. Not a good moment but luckily I wasn't going too fast and just bounced off the kerbs a bit rather than mounting them. Not a moment to repeat though and my wheels are a bit scuffed up!

'Family crisis' is never questioned and pretty non specific so you can just give it the old 'yeah, we worked it out - don't really want to talk about it' as the stock reply to any enquiry on return to work. BTW in the flu season if pulling a sickie just lay on the bed with your head hanging back over the edge when you make the phone call and your voice is instantly changed as if you really were bunged up! However, as an employer I do not condone any pulling of sickies!

£185 for a '97 TT imported in 2007. Do a search - there's loads on the new tax laws.

I reckon Mr Brown is a great example of someone being promoted so many times that they ultimately end up in a job they can't do, by which time it's too late. He wasn't voted in but I'm pretty sure he'll be voted out. I'll be interested to see if Labour use this in their next campaign for re-election or if the realistic people in the party might have a say. He might have had a bit of bad luck with things globally that are out of his control but he definitely doesn't help himself either. I just can't forget (or forgive) the speech he made when he became PM in which he said exactly what Tony Blair said 10 years previously when he got in for the first time. Then a journo pointed out that labour had spent BILLIONS on these issues but all the performance tables said they were worse than 10 years ago! (and that was before all the bad things that have happened since).

I've always had a soft spot for these. http://www.fbrownauto.com/images/images500wide/1981_corvette_3.jpg and there's something about this too... http://vikram-rao.com/2006-Dodge-Challenger-Concept-SA-Top-1024x768.jpg

You should also check out the Panasonic Lumix FZ18 (8 mega pixel). It has an amazing built in zoom and I've seen great prints from it. If I was buying another compact I'd get one! I have an Olympus mju790sw which is shock proof and water proof (I can vouch for both as I took it snowboarding and it's fine after many crashes and snow baths). Pic quality may not be the best but it's darn rugged. Both in your price range I think but use http://www.pricerunner.co.uk to compare prices.

Just for info, I spoke to Steve Manley about getting some glass headlights for my supe as the j-spec plastic ones are yellowed and the chrome rings around the lights have corroded. Apparently teh facelift j-spec plastic lens ones (which I currently have) have a gunmetal colour to the interior whereas the uk spec glass ones are much more silver/chrome on the inside. Am just wondering if you have one of each?

Good web site for everything at http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/ with v quick delivery. I use biodegradable Chemical Guys Bodywash+wax shampoo, any decent polish (Auto Glym or Carlack 68 Nano is good) and R222 wax (v. easyon and off). I also used Carlack Galss Sealing kit (which is just amazing!!!!) and Meguires quick detailing spray with clays and Auto Glym bumper care for external black trim. I've acquired various microfibre cloths with these products so just use those. Also check out http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/ for all your detailing needs!

I opened the A&L a/c no problem and all my dd's got transfered by them with no probs either. I keep it topped up to as close to the £2500 as possible to get the best return with the interest rates so I've never had any issues with being overdrawn. Also I've never called customer services so can't comment on them. As with anything you should read all the T&C's thoroughly to see if it suits how you bank. I think there's advice on MoneySavingExpert website as to what to go for if you always stay in credit, occasionally go overdrawn, overdrawn every month etc.

Initially I would stick as much as you can (up to £3600 per year) into a cash ISA for the tax free savings bit, open an Alliance and Leicester premium direct current account, stick in the max of £2500 to get 8.5% use it a bit and make sure you put in the requested £500 per month to keep it as close to £2500 as you can. (Prob best to keep your existing current a/c if not with A&L and just transfer £500 to A&L from it each month). Also set up a regular savings account, there are some that will let you put in up to £500 per month, so you could transfer £500 from the A&L a/c in to it and top up the A&L a/c with a replacement £500 at the same time so each new account is happy and you're making the max from that bit of dosh. Most regular savings a/c's will only give you max interest (some are at 10%) if you leave all the money in there for a year but it sounds like that's the sort of timescale you're looking at anyway. The rest put it some kind of high interest a/c - there are some around the 6.5 to 7% mark and lots allow instant access too. Some of the fixed term bonds are the same interest rate but the money is tied up for a year or two so pointless as you get penalised if you take money out earlier. Remember only the first £35,000 is protected by law at the moment if the bank has problems - like Northern Rock did - but the government is thinking about raising it to £50,000. I'm not a financial advisor or anything so if you're concerned ask one for advice of course. I just juggled my savings around recently and did a lot or research first so know about some of the stuff out there at the moment. I would stay away from the stock market in any form, be it stocks and shares ISA's or savings bonds given the global financial state at the moment. For guaranteed results just go with the highest rate savings you can get. Stocks are a big risk over the short term at the moment. Check out http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ for all kinds of free and unbiased advice. Note: all the above is only my opinion and at the end of the day you should do what you feel comfortable with.

Was concerned about my '97 that was imported in '07. Called the dvla and they didn't ask me anything about emissions just said that the banding is done on the year of manufacture not when first registered in the UK so I pay £185. It seems odd that you're paying £400 for a year and someone else with the same car could pay £185 just 'cos nothings written down about the emissions. I'd contest that with the DVLA.

Now that's just genius - I'm sure I'll do that too! I do this too, but more often than not she got it the first time and just wasn't impressed so I just re-tell them to keep myself entertained now!

My bad for the re-post but in the 6 months I've been a member I hadn't seen it and there's sooooo many threads to go through......... Anyway, who'd have thought about putting 'prostitute' into the search funtion of a car forum!!! Will try harder to be original next time!

Marine Corps General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio the other day concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws, you gotta love this!!! One of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visit to his military installation.FEMALE INTERVIEWER So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base? GENERAL REINWALD We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting. FEMALE INTERVIEWER Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it? GENERAL REINWALD I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range. FEMALE INTERVIEWER Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children? GENERAL REINWALD I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm. FEMALE INTERVIEWER But you're equipping them to become violent killers. GENERAL REINWALD Well, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you? The radio went silent and the interview ended. The next best one I've heard was a 'friend of a friend' who went up to a girl in a club and just said the good old 'do you want to dance?'. She said 'no' so he came back with 'I'm sorry, you must have miss heard me, I said you look fat in that skirt' and walked off. Probably not true but how many times have we all wished we could think that quick?

Give A-Plan insurance a try too. They have a separate dept. that deals with sports and imports and I got fully comp on my J-Spec '97TT for about £480 if memory serves.

We don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing. Anything that doesn't kill you will make you stronger. Don't worry cos you made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes, but if you make the same one again you're an idiot. There's no such thing as right or wrong decisions, it's how you react after you've made the decision that matters. Life's not fair - get on with it. Expect to be around for ever but live each day as if it's your last. Dance like no one's watching. Rage makes you sick. It spoils your appetite for life and keeps you from sleep at night. Look for the good things in life and enjoy them to the full. Who said dreams have to be practical - they just have to make you feel good. Last one - see sig below!

Sale of goods act sumary at http://www.berr.gov.uk/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html I've found it v. useful over the years when dealing with sales assistants who think they have no liability even if an article is out of warranty!

Yup, my pipes were a pita to get off too. Install went smooth after that! I did a bit of a search and found this http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=143784&highlight=HKS+SSQV+fitting+problem&page=2 I cut the pipes down and fitted as per Nik's post half way down page 2. Nice and neat and fits fine! Cheers to Nik for getting to me and for the install pics!!
