  1. As above, I need the packing seal stuff used to seal the front cam bearings. I asked about an alternative but noone seems to know of any. Can any of the guys working in the industry see if your toyota supplier can supply the above? According to my guy it's a minimum order for some reason, I'm thinking it might be an off the shelf item and as they have just started they don't have any in stock. 08826-00080 is the original number I got from the manual 00295-00103 is the number I read this had been changed to? Either or would be great. Think it works out around £15. Cheers

  9. Common sense and enginuity are a must. An interest in what you are doing is important also as you need to read a fair whack. Other than that its fairly straight forward imo.
  10. What do you guys use for the seal packing. Is Toyota the only source for the stuff needed for the cams? I really want to get the head finished tomorrow so I want to make sure I have everything to hand. Waiting on Toyota is just going to delay things. Cheers
  11. Must admit, that garage sounds absolutely fantastic. I certainly wouldnt be asking for compensation, i would be thanking them for owning up and taking responsibility of the situation. I would happily take my car to a garage like that.
  12. The small VSV at the top is fooked. That's the reason you aren't getting boost when you drop a cog. At least I think it's that one lol. If you have a look in the technical section IanC did a great FAQ on the turbo setup and the problems that people see, oh and of course the solutions. Everything you need is in there for the first issue. As for the 2nd issue I'm not sure. Why not take the solenoid out of the equation and see what happens?

It might show if the engine is worth keeping though, if the compression is good across the rest of the cylinders then it might give an indication of the condition of the ones that don't show any compression. It would be a gamble though, hoping that there was nothing else wrong. It's going to be a gamble regardless though unfortunately. 2nd hand heads are relatively cheap though, even if his was warped it would be reasonably easy to get another one for decent money.
  14. Full set of valve stem seals. Brand spanking new, never used. Not required as I bought a head with fresh ones fitted. £60 delivered
  15. If you decide to repair it the absolute minimum is going to be the head gasket being replaced. This is a fairly labour intensive job on a stock car so would be costly on its own. You may need to add in a head skim, you might as well do the valve stem seals while at it and you would need to find the root cause of the overheating (radiator/thermostat related). Not sure what this will cost but it will have 3 zeros after it regardless. Replacing the engine is straight forward enough for most people, labour would most likely be less than with a head gasket change but you would be running a sort of unknown engine. The engine would cost you about £1000 also before any fitting etc. Given this scenario you would still need to find the root cause of the overheating so that makes no difference to the cost. If it was me I would do a compression test to see what readings you get. I'm not sure how much difference a blown HG would make to those results though. If the compression test results were favourable I would fit a new gasket, refresh the head, change the thermostat and flush out the cooling system. Job total would probably be around £1000-£1500.

  19. Did you travel up past loch lomond etc for a run? Up that way is absolutely stunning. You can then take your pick over which direction you want to go in as either way is beautiful. I usually head for Oban

  21. Ive got a couple of sets in the garage that i can try if you like. They may be a different offset from the ones you have though. My car is on axle stands with the wheels off anyway so its no trouble
