  1. Chris Exactly my words - except when I tried to post a lengthy reply on this subject my connection crashed! You've saved me re-typing it all. Do you have an answer to my question on ARBs though?
  2. There's a lot of posts about springs on this site but I can't remember seeing any mention of spring rates. What sort of rates are we talking about here. I've got Bilsteins etc and progressive springs but I haven't checked what brand (or rate). The car is almost stiff enough to be track set-up. Also does anybody know what ARBs are standard for J & UK spec. From my racing experience I know Eibachs are v good.
  3. Cheers Terry, I'm in touch with him and the problem is solved.
  4. Terry Is that Leon's phone number or yours? John
  5. Matt Thanks, I may take you up on the offer. H&R is the name that keeps coming up and their stuff looks top quality. I'll check with Leon first.
  6. Eyefi The wheels aren't standard (9Jx17" split rims) and I've measured using washers, but thanks anyway. I could get away with 4mm provided the wheels don't flex at all or there isn't an expansion-with-heat issue. I've sourced spacers, so all I need to find now are studs.
  7. I offered up my new UK calipers today to discover a minor amount of wheel centre to caliper fouling. Does anybody make/sell wheel spacers for the Supra and of course longer wheel studs. I need a pair of 5mm, 6mm or 0.25" spacers and 10 studs. Can any one help?
  8. Get Z rated for two reasons. 1. you don't want to have to buy new tyres when you de-restrict. 2. what sort of low perfromance car uses tyres that size but doesn't need Z rating? Vitaras. Your Supra deserves better!
  9. Terry Or it's neither and I wouldn't consider it a tool for use on a Supra. Plumbing maybe!
  10. Thanks I just happened to have a litre in the workshop.
  11. The 235 etc. is the width of the tyre in mm. The 40 is the aspect ratio - basically the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the tyre width. This makes a 235/40 have a sidewall height of 235x40%=94mm. Measurements are taken from the where the bead contacts the wheel rim.
  12. Kevin Don't worry about hiding in the bunker, there are plenty of people out there right now checking their adjustable spanners to see if theirs is metric. You don't need to know how it works to enjoy your Supra. Many people know little about their Supras or they wouldn't ask so many questions on this bbs. You will learn a lot about Supras here - I have! ps. my adjustable spanner says 10" on it, does that mean it isn't metric?
  13. I'm upgrading my brakes and will be replacing the fluid. Does anybody know of any reason not to use silicone brake fluid in a Supra, such as the seals don't like it. I know about clearing all the conventional stuff out first and not mixing fluid types etc.
  14. So it's not a diameter issue fundamentally but a wheel specific problem related to the shape of the centres. I was worried about shelling out for UK brakes to find I needed new rims, but this is not the problem- phew!
  15. As the UK brakes will fit with 17" wheels, aren't 18" wheels going to fit regardless?
  16. As this ingenious "sequential" gear change only selects the gears via the normal H gate, where's the advantage? It can't change gear any quicker than you can. you still have to deal with the syncromesh and it doesn't power-shift. I can think of better things to buy for my Supra.
  17. You could try a serious sequential box such as the Hewland IGT-C. This is used in the Japan GT series and costs a measly £13,000. I don't know if that includes ratios. The moral of the tale is £200 doesn't do it.
  18. I'd be extremely surprised if you could make a conventional box into sequential just by changing the gear lever assembly. Save your money and just practice changing with the shift you've got. The selector system in sequential boxes is totally different to a conventional H pattern shift. Strip a bike box down to see how they work. I have a sequential shift, it's labelled 2-3-D etc...
  19. While we're comparing pads, anybody got any views on Black Diamond discs. I'm thinking of fitting grooved or grooved/drilled discs with UK calipers up front.
  20. Anybody tried Carbon Metallic by Performance Friction?
  21. Looks like Pristine may be the people for split rims. I've just found a site about a Lotus Esprit restoration - split rims restored by Pristine.
  22. No harm in asking this one again... Does anybody out there know of a company that can refurbish split-rims? Spit & Polish do not. I'm quite happy to dismantle the rims.
  23. I fitted the Blitz DSBC Type S recently and would recommend it. Bearing in mind other peoples comments about state of tune - my engine is not a highly modded one. PS anybody want a couple of bleed valves?
  24. Fundamentally there is only one thing between you and the road and that's your tyres. On old tyres I've experienced dry road wheel spin at motorway speeds if the surface provokes it. Examples being white lines and truck-ruts. With new tyres (Bridgestone S01) this only happens on wet or damp roads. Watch out when booting it to pass a slow vehicle as you cross the white line. There's just enough time for one wheel to lose traction before the LSD catches it and by then the other wheel has lost traction. The moral of the story is keep both hands on the wheel and treat Supra power with respect. These cars will keep you on your toes - that's surely their appeal.
  25. Genuine question, Do these trick cat-back systems really produce performance or are they all show and sound? I like a car to look good but I'd rather spend on performance than styling.
