  1. C'est la vie Terry Thanks for the advice, I will progress with the mods.
  2. I've always used Mobil 1 in racing engines, it doesn't seen to care how hot it gets. Is the 15W50 the "Motorsport" type favoured by TVR?
  3. 420bhp with a misfire! John Greasley's got some nice Porsches hasn't he.
  4. Thanks for the advice Terry, I don't think I'm planning a head rebuild just to change the valve-springs and had really settled on the 264s. Do the HKS gears have vernier adjustment or are they just pretty? I'm not into cosmetic engine components.
  5. Probably right, although all you need is a copper who's had a bad day, or a child who got a face full of exhaust gas and cried. You know the mantra - "Where there's a blame there's a claim". Incidentally the Blitz FATT DCII shuts the engine down as soon as you release the handbrake.
  6. dudersvr Regarding whether or not the keys are in, there is no legal requirement for a car to have a key at all.
  7. "as i understand it a turbo timer is used to supply oil to the turbo that spins at some vast rpm (100,000) so that its not spinning in dry bearings ." No it keeps the engine running at idle so the heat in the turbochargers is disapated (both to the oil and to the air). If you stop the engine with hot turbochargers, the oil is not flowing and so overheats and burns. There is no difference between usng a turbo timer and just letting the engine idle. The turbo timer just sorts it all out for you. It must be the cheapest mod you can do to a Supra.
  8. No, it takes the guess work out of reading the oil temp etc. and it doesn't forget. It's illegal in the UK to leave a car with the engine running and nobody in it.
  9. Do you mean why not essential on a standard car? I would have assumed if it were essential Toyota would have fitted one as standard - they did a pretty thorough job on the Supra.
  10. It's not really how long the engine has been running, but what you've been doing prior to switching off. They're a hundred quid and a competent novice can fit one in 30 minutes. You can't go wrong.
  11. Darren The issue is that you can't arm the CAT1 system if the engine's running. As you can't leave a car in this country with the engine running it's no big deal. The turbo timer can't be used to get around the alarm/immobiliser and therefore steal the car. Alex The Blitz FATT DCII does decide how much switch-off time according to how you've been using the engine.
  12. Mark D If you've got the money for upgrade turbos, don't wait till you've wrecked the current ones. Upgrade now, sell the original turbos and with the money I've just saved you, buy yourself a Blitz FATT DCII and me a beer.
  13. I have a Blitz FATT and reckon it's a good little piece of kit. You can set the minimum time and overide with the off switch. You'd be surprised at what sort of driving produces what switch-off times. Obviously if you're running a standard car it's not essential to have one, but at the price and ease of fitting it's an awful lot cheapr than premature turbo failure.
  14. I'm looking to put some new cams in and HKS seem to be th popular choice. 264s or even 272s are my plan, does anybody out there have any comments on their performance?
  15. I would look at improving the first turbo pressure to fill that big hole at about 3200rpm
  16. Is that £130 for a wing a Toyota price, or where do you get panels at that sort of price? (got a little damage)
  17. And so back to the issue of headrests! I won't comment on the (un)named individual except to say I'm unimpressed by the level of intellect displayed.
  18. Mines always done this. As far as I understand it, the ECU does this to make the transmission smoother. I think the feel of this is exagerated by running higher than standard boost. Technical experts - feel free to correct me.
  19. UK Spec front discs & calipers then speak to Paul Whifin for some pads & s/s hoses. Mine work! s/h warranties always seem to be trouble.
  20. TRAC is a sh*te system isn't it.
  21. Cheers - maybe I'll just take out the bulbs as well.
  22. Like everybody else I've got a set of j-spec fronts on the bench. Freeing seized calipers is not difficult and if you discs aren't totally trashed they can be skimmed for less than £50. That just leaves pads - you have to buy them.
  23. I finally got bored with always switching off the TRAC today and pulled out the fuse. The "Slip Control Off" light and the "O/D Off" light flash alternately. Is this normal with the fuse removed? I put it back in as I'd rather switch off than look at a christmas tree dash.
  24. Thorin I'm surprised that a test of tyres on a FWD Focus is even considered worth mentioning in connection with what works on a Supra. It's irrelevant - the dynamics of the two cars are worlds apart. If you're looking for Supra tyre performance, the people on this BBS should know enough to help you decide what's worth buying. Incidentally my local tyre dealer (I've been buyng from him for 13 years) got me Bridgestones in 3 days.
