  1. Ah this question again. Can I recommend the search facility.
  2. Maybe I'll get the dampers on a dyno...
  3. I'm going back to the workshop. I'll be back!
  4. Chris, would it be likely that the TRD Bilstein stuts would have such marginal springs? As far as corner weights are concerned, I haven't measured them as the car is too heavy for my corner weight guage (single seater scale). I know what you mean about spring quality. I'm going to swap the struts to see if the knock moves to the other side. Supra Pilot, would you know this knock if you heard it? I might drive over your way and get an opinion.
  5. Yeah I hear you, but I've had this car apart and it logically the springs aren't making this noise. For example, why is it only on one side. The springs are the same type. The n/s has this knock under slight bump, but the o/s never does it at all. The progressive coil winding is designed to bind so why no noise from one spring. Maybe I should try swapping the struts to see if the knock moves.
  6. Chris The top coils are touching under load, but I'm surprised it's only rattling on one side. The o/s never makes this noise. The car is hard at the rear which makes for good track days but wheelspin over bumps on the road is a problem. Whether or not the rattle is caused by the spring, the rear set up needs a little investigation. My feeling is that the rebound damping is a little soft for the spring rate, causing the car to leap a little.
  7. I'm surprised nobody's suggested my workshop's fallen over!
  8. Nope. I've put the whole lot back together and the knock is still there, although maybe it's just a big rattle after all. At least I now know it's nothing serious - maybe just turning up the CD will do.
  9. Top mount is perfectly OK and there's no eveidence of any play or knock anywhere on the back suspension. Anybody know if these damper boots are a standard item or do I need TRD (and TRD prices)?
  10. For ordinary everyday driving, the springs are too hard, not too sure about the dampers. The car is very good on a track though.
  11. Steve, mine is a big loose-hammer type knock - something heavy.
  12. Give-us-a-call Signed Arthur (two compressors) Jackson
  13. Was this a hammer type knock or a rattle type?
  14. There are time when I feel a conference call might be simpler
  15. Chris, one last thing, this noise is there at walking pace (or less) if the ground is bumpy.
  16. Cheers Matt, this is turning into a bit of a Sherlock Holmes job.
  17. I'll let you know if the stut top mount is not the problem. It really doesn't sound like tailgate problem and the sound almost matches the feel of the car - you're a racer Chris you'll understand. I'm not 100% convinced it's the strut top bearing, but I'm working through the options. If the strut proves OK I'll pursue your suggestion - and I'll be relieved that it's not a major problem. This does have me puzzled!
  18. No it's not a coil-binding issue and it's definitely a metal hitting metal sound. I'm taking the strut out tomorrow and checking the top-mount bearing and also the damper rod. I'll post my findings tomorrow night if all goes well.
  19. I guess that means nobody has any experience of this then.
  20. The car is producing a knocking noise coming from the n/s rear corner. I've had all the rear interior out thinking it was an internal noise but the knock is still there. I suspect it's a rear strut top mount. The handling of the car is OK. Struts are TRD Bilstein and show no signs of leaks or anything else odd. Anybody had one of these mounts fail and produce a heavy sounding knock over bumps?
  21. Road Angel has this, switchable between MPH & Km/h.
