  1. If you're not used to RWD, be extremely careful of a car with that spec and don't go out in the wet. I've driven RWD for over 25 years and every week my TT tries to spit me off a wet road (I'm still winning). In fact I find it amazing how few people crash these cars:eek:
  2. I'm afraid they've arrived with avengeance in France. A warning to everybody who likes a blast down to Le Mans or wherever, there is no tolerance on these cameras, 91km/h in a 90 zone will get you a fine (90€ I believe) and being found in posession of a radar detector may lead to your car being confiscated:eek: . I'm trying to find if devices such as Road Angel are legal, but am currently keeping mine out of use. I personally won't chance it without a letter from a French lawyer stating that the device is legal. Oh well... off to Germany and its Autobahns. PS (edited on afterwards) Posession of a radar detetctor recently got a driver 4 days in jail as well) I can't warn you any more than that, unless they bring back the guillotine!
  3. Light flywheel gives better downchanges when you heel and toe, and not a lot more on the road. Now is the time to admit who can heel and toe.
  4. There's a big feature on the Zeroshift system in the current edition of RaceCar Engineering. Obviously the designers are still sorting out their patents etc, but the data does look very interesting. It even makes gearboxes cheaper to make! I have to agree with CW, transmission is about to make a fundamental change. To all you drag racers out there, how does a 12.7 metre advantage on a 10 second run sound?
  5. can't remeber which wire, but Pete Betts is a hell of a good source for this sort of info. See TRLPerformance.
  6. It's double converting the kms to miles - you need to move a wire. Mine did this and I spotted it when I thought it was only doing 14mpg on a steady drive:eek:
  7. My experience of rod failure is little end failure or piston failure leaving a rod flailing around looking for a way out of the block.
  8. Only due to the mass of the piston during the induction stroke! This is minor compared to the compression forces during the other three stokes. I've not come across a rod that's broken due to tension.
  9. Lighten, balance, polish them & make sure everything is within blueprint tolerance. Not a lot of tensile loading on a rod!
  10. Damn-it Chris, I was just about to say "big serious air-gun!"
  11. Mobil Motorsport is a good bet as well. It doesn't have the 0w of normal Mobil 1. I personally haven't ever had a problem with Mobil 1 or Valvoline. Valvoline is cheaper than M1 though.
  12. If you've got a socket set, a decent jack, and a bit of common sense - yes.
  13. My pet hate with on-line quoting is the way you give all your details (name, address, etc.) and when they've got all that they say "we only offer cover for vehicles built specifically for the UK market". Then you get loads of unsolicited mail from people who've been sold your details.
  14. 15000 miles and carbon pads and they still clean up OK
  15. This what they look like when brand new.
  16. Bouncing e-mail? No answer to the phone? Waste of space!
  17. I photo documented the whole job and even built a web page which I offered to this BBS - no response. It's a common mod and it could/should be in the tech section. Anybody agree? Lobby your moderator!
  18. Part numbers are: UK Spec Supra brake part nos. Left Rear Disk 42431-14150 Right Rear Disk 42431-14150 Left Front Disk 43516-14030 Right Front Disk 43512-14200 Left Rear Caliper 47750-14280 Right Rear Caliper 47730-14270 Left Front Caliper 47750-14270 Right Front caliper 47730-14260 Shim kit rear 04946-14030 Shim kit front 04945-14110 Fitting kit rear 04948-14010 Fitting kit front 04947-14010 Left & Right discs are different and labelled L & R and bizarely are slightly different prices. Try another Toyota dealer - Motorline in Canterbury will get you any parts that are available. PS (edit) I have done this mod (front only) and bought these parts quoting these part numbers.
  19. I think my 17s are at least 9 front & 10 back.
  20. A bit unlikely, the Supra engine is a fairly powerful unit and a tight a/c compressor is not going to hold it back. But sorry to hear of your woes, maybe a third party expert could give you an opinion on the "merchantable quality of the car".
  21. 393 - Impressive figure. When I got my car and talked to a few people in the know they all reckoned 360 was more likely than 400, but then again I don't use more than 1.1 bar on the road. Maybe the extra boost you're running accounts for it. I use 1.2 on track but with octane booster. Sounds like a visit to the RR is in order.
