  1. My first car was a Mini with very marginal synchro so I learned to double de-clutch because it was easier than changing the gearbox.
  2. Now we're confusing double de-clutching with the throttle blip (and heel and toe) to match the revs to the road speed when letting the clutch out again on a down change. The double de-clutch only affects the meshing of the gears... and the synchromesh will already have done that.
  3. Actually that was another example of poor audio post-production. Keen fans of the film will notice the car has more than the 4 gears it was built with. The throttle blip is on the down-change not the up-change. Synchro has been with us since before the 60s. If anybody wants to know how to do it, I'll explain. When you have mastered it you can change down without using the clutch at all - handy if you've had hydraulic failure (or a broken clutch cable - depending on the car) and you need to limp home. To hear it at its best, go to a historic race meeting like the Goodwood Revival and listen to 1950s GP cars.
  4. UK spec has heated seats... could be handy in the Austrian winter.
  5. Why? Never had a problem with mine on J-spec m/c.
  6. I've just sold my J-spec Supra for this very reason. I'm moving back to France. The only country in the EU I know of with liberal import rules (like ours) is Belgium.
  7. You mean double de-clutching. It's a complete waste of time since the invention of synchromesh!
  8. Fusi My advice is buy a UK spec car not a Japanese import. You may have trouble importing and registering a car not built to European sepc. I know it is impossible to import Japanese spec cars into France so Austria may have similar problems. Check in Austria what you can and cannot import.
  9. Alternatively, just make your cars road legal!
  10. Change both the rears. I'm surprised you didn't notice the marginal handling. Konis are very good and don't cost much.
  11. I had these and rate them as poor. They haven't made them for some time. As far as your MOT is concerned, 1 cat should pass no problem.
  12. Tyres are very heavy regardless of what the rims weigh.
  13. Tiff Needell does know how to drive and has a decent racing cv. I'll never forgive him for winning the Formula Ford car in the Autosport competition many years ago. It could have been me!
  14. How old is the car? If it's got Freon (R12) you'll need a conversion kit to take the newer R134a gas. Freon was banned some years ago. The trick is never to turn the a/c off - it not only cools the air, it dehumidifies it so you'll never mist up the screen etc. Good in winter.
  15. Mikey, you want to support the car at the chassis end of the wishbone, not the wheel end.
  16. Like this? Under the wishbone to subframe bolt? Yes.
  17. I recommend a wet, cold day and turn the boost to 1. Glad you think it's quick... I do.
  18. Including the statement "Installation of this product should be done by licensed mechanics only".
  19. You can always buy the guage then you can charge other owners to set their cars up. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductList.asp?cls=MSPORT&grp=MP072&pgrp=M005&tlgrp=M005
  20. Anybody who builds or prepares racing saloons or rally cars may be able to help. I've got a corner-weight guage but it's only for single seaters - 200kg per corner max. Not much help for a Supra. Probably some Rally people in your area. Like I say, it's not critical, but it will affect your cornering and braking if it's way out. PS bathroom scales are fiine if they're calibrated to half a tonne and you've got two of them!
  21. Cheers Bobbeh, unfortunately a J-spec Supe can't be imported to France and a French spec is rare as hens' teeth and £20,000 plus. I'm going to miss that second turbo wallop! But, top down in the south of France...
  22. Not if you're planning a move to the south of France...
  23. Could you post a photo of the steerng wheel, opened?
