They don't make 400bhp stock. If you really want your asset to appreciate - try and find a RHD 3.6. Pretty rare, and they will certainly appreciate.

I have one. I don't feel my fingers were burned, but then again - I don't pay for my phones. Personally, I prefer the 5800 I was using before. N86 has older Symbian software and I found 5800 was a big leap forward in useability. Camera is much better on N86 though. I only got the N86 because I wanted to use the FM transmitter. A week after getting it, I didn't need it anymore - so I've switched back to the 5800.

I wonder if Sky are now reading a few policies and thinking : Really? You told us you only do 2,000 miles a year.........

Blimey - I think that lettuce was older than me!

Sky Insurance - best policy, best price, best service
DaveK replied to Safely Insured's topic in Club News and Membership
I guess I will be calling Sky again tomorrow. As posted above - I wrote to them on Thursday 3rd September to cancel my policy with immediate effect since I'd sold the car. After I posted, I was called - to confirm receipt of the letter and to tell me that my proof of NCD would have to be sent by the insurers and would take 7-10 days. I have just received my proof of NCD. Apart from the fact that it's taken longer than I was told - my main concern is that it states the cancellation date was 14/09/09 - i.e. 6 days after my new policy (which I was supposed to be transferring my NCD to) started! There is absolutely no reason why the cancellation date should be 10 days after I wrote to Sky, and it is not acceptable that it's after my new policy started! -
Yep - but that's probably why it's worth more than £14k.

I just found it. It's not even a standard 997 - it's a 4S - which means it's worth even more money. You can very easily check yourself that it's not a genuine sale. Search on autotrader and pistonheads - you won't find another 2005 997C4S within £20k of that one. It's almost certainly a scam - and if it's not that, it's a misprint in the price. Believe me - if that's the only thing that's making you consider selling the Supra, forget about it. There is absolutely no way you can buy a 2005 997C4S for £14k.

Can't - he was putting his jacket in (and dinging the car next to him) in order to leave.
-
You're an idiot. I actually heard your door hit the car next to you as you opened the door to put your jacket in. You're lucky you weren't parked next to mine.
-
It's an odd car. Initially, it was what I expected - very fast, but very controlled and therefore not all that exciting. However, as I'm getting to know it a bit more it is impressing me more as the days go by. Slightly odd as usually I'd expect to think "Wow!" as soon as I picked it up, and then find the excitement wore off. I'm certainly glad I bought it - I think it's going to be more fun than I expected.
-
Er - a 997 05 plate for £14k? Not possible. An 05 997 is a £30k car minimum. Any advert you've seen for one at £14k would be a "my agent will pay you more than the value of the car, and then....." type one. Or it will be one that somebody has just driven into a wall.

Be careful of Sony. A friend of mine bought a camcorder a few months ago, and went for a Sony one. However, she records a lot of gigs and quickly found the Sony was showing a blue screen and "buffer full" message and she'd get breaks in her recording. Searching online shows this to be a common problem with Sony HDD camcorders when in loud environments. The vibration stops it writing to the HDD, and it's internal buffer overflows. You can get round it - by recording to memory stick - but that rather defeats the object of buying a HDD camcorder. So beware. It really depends on how you want to use it - but not everybody complaining about it online was recording gig-style volumes. Some were complaining about it happening at things like weddings, when the crowd was a bit noisy.

A 944 is not a 911, and they haven't made 944s for about 20 years. A 2003 911 would be a 996 model - it can't be anything else if it's a 911. But you cannot buy a 2003 996 for £14k - you can (just) get 1998 (3.4l) 996s for £14k. You might get a cat D 2003 for £14k, but I seriously doubt it. So I have no idea what you've actually seen - but it's not what you think you've seen. Edit : £14k might be what you'd pay for a 964 model 911. But that will not be 2003 - it will be 1989-1993 (maybe 1994 if you're lucky).

Months ago, we all had a couple of low energy light bulbs delivered - unasked for, and free - all to save the planet no doubt. On the other hand - pretty much everything in my house is Halogen, so giving me a couple of bulbs I didn't want and will never use doesn't really seem to help the environment all that much.....

What 911? For £9k more than your supra I assume that would make it about £15-17k? A £15-17k 911 would either be a 964 (which is older than your supra) or an early 996 - which might be great, but might have a self destructing engine. That's what you assume, not what you see.

I bought them a couple of years ago in a group buy. Never got around to using them, and forgot I had them - but just found them when I was looking for something else. Look like the ones here : http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=161152&highlight=speaker+bracket £25 delivered. Depending on where you are, I might even deliver them to you.

I think "sterile" is the best description. As a daily car, it suits what I want. However - if it was my weekend car (and was replacing the 964) it wouldn't be what I wanted at all - it would have to be a 993TT (or a 964 turbo, if I could find a black RHD 3.6 - which is unlikely).

I did say I'd post some pics when I got it - so here they are. First impressions : Good points Best of both worlds - it's very quick, but around town even my grandmother could drive it. And she's dead. Handling is impressive - not really pushed it much yet, but did go fairly quickly around a roundabout today and I was impressed at how poised it was. On a private track today, it did reach 160mph in no time at all - with a gear left. Bad points The fuel tank capacity is a joke. From warning light on to totally full - £50 of super unleaded. Are you kidding? The rate at which the fuel gauge is dropping - and the fact that you can display average fuel consumption. On a long journey, it's 20+mpg. On a twisty road it was..... 11.6. Brakes are less impressive than I expected - I reckon the 964 ones are better. For pure fun factor - the 964 blows it away. I get the impression I could floor it part way round a bend, and the computer will make sure I get round anyway (although I haven't tried switching it off yet.....). Summary Despite the bad points - it does make an excellent daily driver and I'm currently very happy with it.

Although it's clear Elephant screwed up - weren't you a little surprised you hadn't received a new certificate with the correct registration details on it?

Sky Insurance - best policy, best price, best service
DaveK replied to Safely Insured's topic in Club News and Membership
I'm not currently very impressed with your customer service. On Tuesday of last week, I called to tell you I would be changing cars. At that time you were very helpful and told me my current policy could not cover the replacement car due to it's value (above £20k). So, I told you I'd cancel the insurance at the point I changed cars (a week later). At that time, you mailed me a questionnaire to comment on your customer service, since it's something you're trying to improve. I didn't fill it in at the time - I decided to wait until the whole issue was concluded (i.e. the cancellation of the insurance) - and then I'd fill it in based on the experience. Well - I called you again last week (Wednesday afternoon) to make another enquiry about my policy. I was told that nobody was free and I would be called back "shortly". I still have not been called back. On Wednesday evening, the supra sold so I wrote a letter of cancellation for my policy, included my certificate of insurance and requested proof of NCD. I didn't receive proof over the weekend (which is fair enough, you would only have received the letter on Friday). However - I do want to send everything off to my new insurers in one go, so called today to get confirmation that you'd received the letter, and that my proof of NCD was on it's way. When I called at 1pm, I was told everybody was busy and I'd be called back shortly. I called back myself at 3pm - and was again told that everybody was busy and I'd be called back shortly. It's now 5pm, and I've not heard from you yet - so it's not looking all that likely I'll hear back today. I think most people agree that companies that say they will call back - but don't - score very poorly on customer service. I would like a call confirming that you received my cancellation and that my proof of NCD is on it's way. -
There are two options - but only current style (XXnn XXX) or old style (Xnnn XXX). Nothing for dateless.

I've yet to find a way to search dateless plates on DVLA. This one is Irish I think too - not sure if they carry them. I'll check DVLA site again to see if I'm missing something - but I suspect this plate is probably on a car already.
-
They have a plate I want. I've bought plates before (once from DVLA, once from a different dealer). I googled, but didn't find any horror stories about them (no good ones either). It's a fair chunk of money (way more than the other plates I've bought) so I just want to make sure they're ok. Although, they don't actually own this plate - so I guess it depends on the seller as much as anything else. Still - if anybody has any horror stories, please let me know before I hand over any cash!

You're a lot nicer than my mate. He's got a young daughter (I think she's 6 now) and a couple of year ago, she announced that she was going to marry me. At which point, he made it clear that if she still thought that when she was old enough, I would die horribly. But I think the wedding is off now anyway. They live in Miami, and when I was there last month, one of the first things she said to me was "I can't remember where you're from". Girls are so fickle.....
