For sale; Getrag V161 Gearbox. I think it's a V161 not a V160. This is based on my memory of buying the gearbox on this forum probably 15 years ago. Also from a quick bit of research on the ole internet. Pics show the different webbing on the back section of the gearbox indicate its a V161. But please do your own research based off the attached photos of the actual box. This is from my Driftworks S15. I sold the car in 2012 and bought it back from Greece last year. It seems to have had extremely little use in that time. Mileage unknown. I have a feeling it was around 65k miles when I bought it. It's been in a drift car that wasn't road registered so it won't have done many miles in my ownership. I have always used it with a Carbonetics carbon fibre clutch. They are very gentle on engagement compared with normal multiplate clutches. I actually have a complete triple plate clutch and slave etc that can be included by negotiation if required. Seems to work fine, but I've not driven the car more than in first and second gear since buying it back as the fuel pipes were leaking and it's now in disassembly. It's had a crack professionally repaired on the top of the bell housing. See the last couple of pictures. Inspection / collection from Driftworks in Birmingham B11. I may consider palleting and shipping at the buyers cost and liability for loss or damage. The gearbox is sold with absolutely no warranty or return. Price - I'm told it's worth £8,000 as it sits. You are welcome to tell me it's not. Cheers Phil

Toyota have come through! thank god. I'm £400 lighter in the pocket, but I think I have everything I need now .
-
Fingers crossed Toyota pull through tomorrow. For the evening internet traffic though: If anyone can help with these parts I'd really appreciate it .

We're removing the triple carbon Carbonetics clutch, and replacing it with an Exedy carbon triple, which means we need these standard parts from a 6 speed: clutch fork fork pivot, release bearing and carrier, slave cylinder any associated clips etc. If someone has these parts we can send someone to be with you today, as the car is on the ramp now and we're competing this weekend. Any help/advice on where we could get these parts would be great. We do have them on order from Toyota, but I cannot count on them coming through in time.

Is there a damped underdrive crank pulley available?
PhilMorrison replied to PhilMorrison's topic in mkiv Technical
Interesting thanks bondango . Although the culprit car has had multiple engines and ancillaries, always with the stock set up I will look into that. Ironically the car that has extra bracing on the pump, and actually has the alternator hanging off the same bracket as well doesn't blow seals. -

The fittings are Aeroquip, they are big enough and flow and cooling is good. We've had a few different racks as well. It's not just on one car, but on the main culprit we blew seals for a year, then fitted an underdrive pulley and didn't blow any for 6 months, then blew the engine and went back to a normal damped pulley and we started blowing seals again. We're not just replacing seals by the way, we are replacing pumps. I'm open to the idea of it being some other part of the system causing the failure, but with having no failures when using an underdrive pulley before, and a fast approaching new season. that's enough for me to purchase two damped underdrive pulleys at great cost -

Yeah you can't run a decent drift car without one. -

It has crossed my mind, but I'm not sure it could withstand the pressures that drifting puts on the steering system. It's quite a lot of work to test and have it fail. Definitely not an option. The force need to pull a car off full lock when you have the amount of steering we do is ridiculous, and can actually be pretty dangerous when the steering gets stuck . -

It's because when you are on full steering lock at 100mph and 8000 RPM it seems some heavy curb clipping can add just enough back pressure on the rack to make the front seal on the pump very unhappy. It is very much a revs related problem though, as on my car that only revs to 7600 it doesn't happen so often, and when we used to run one of the cheapo undamped underdrive pulleys on the car that usually pops them all of the time, it didn't have a problem even at 8000rpm. We just don't want to use the cheapo pulley any more as it may have contributed to the early demise of one of our engines. Is that a 2JZ you're running at that RPM? that's impressive. -

I have and they weren't very helpful. They definitely don't do an underdrive damped pulley. No, there's no room unfortunately. The powersteering pump has no clearance at all, and this is the part we really need to underdrive as we've blown approx 10 pump seals. I'm sorted now anyway thanks guys. I asked on an Australian forum, and they pointed me at a product called Ross Tuffbond. I am having two damped underdrive pulleys manufactured as we speak . -
I've got a bit of deja vous here as I'm sure I've already asked this, but the search says no I'm not interested in the usual discussions on pro's and cons of underdrive, or aftermarket. I would just like to know if any of the companies out there make a damped underdrive crank pulley for the 2J? as my search results here and general google come up with nothing. Thanks Phil

That's good to know thanks. I had a filter on the car that seemed to work fine at 572bhp. I've nicked it for my M3 though, so need a new one, and wanted to make sure I'm not restricting the engine now we're about to try running some boost.

Hi guys. Can anyone offer any insight into air filter options for a genuine 700bhp? I need a single 100mm inlet filter. It's not a road car, so a stainless mesh type filter is fine if it saves me some space. Infact I'd prefer one as oiled filters are horrible to work around. Thanks

Under what circumstances were all these engines killed? What components, who mapped them etc? We use 1JZ's at massive power in two of our competition cars, and I'm not kidding you when I say they are almost literally unbreakable.

That's not the way it read and you know it. This is an extremely pointless nit picking argument by the way, so I'll leave you to it

Irrelevant. It was an ill informed blanket statement on the standards of drifting as a whole in the UK.. My reply is relevant..

How so? I'm replying specifically to this comment.

That's really as blinkered as any of the armchair experts spouting 'facts' about drifting, despite never having seen an event. Pod is beginners to intermediate drifting. Occasionally you we see a more experienced drifter there, but the vast majority are n00bies. Pod is one of the best things to happen to drifting in the UK, as it allows regular practice. It is however not a fair representation of the top level of drifting at all. The fact you say you've never been to a UKD1 event about sums it up. UKD1 hasn't run for 4 years. It was replaced by the D1GB (D1 Great Britain) then by the EDC (European Drift Championship). If you are gauging your opinions on the level of drifting seen in the UK 4 years ago, then you really must come and open your eyes at a 2009 event. We are no longer the learners, we run at the same level as the Japanese. FYI, Japans number one drifters Team Orange competed in this years EDC. They were very impressed with the level we are at now.. You may be too

Not even close. Personal experience of 560bhp on 1JZ with the only mods being 256 cams, having run 10k miles at this power, after 60k miles standard power. This engine is in one of our competition car, and is run off the limiter at every given opportunity. The 1JZ engine is one of the strongest engines out there .

Just to let you know, this car has gone. Thanks

Half beast to take me around the Nurburgring a few times a year, and half getting sensible in my old age . http://images.pistonheads.com/aimg/654/654707-1.jpg

Well I've got to pay for my new car, so unfortunately my other other other weekend toy is up for sale This is without a doubt the most fun you will have behind the wheel of a car!!! I've never laughed so much while driving that I've had to pull over and get out to avoid crashing. 4 up, 20 mile an hour, popping, and you cannot imagine how much fun this car is. I've had people jump in the middle of the road with the full thwacks of respect . I've had a woman hitch her miniskirt up and chase me down the road screaming to let her in, I've had countless offers of swaps there and then, I've had policemen laughing their asses off, I've never seen anything make people smile so much... It's a 1975 Datsun 260c with full chassis modifications, 8mm thick sills, skid plates, modded sump, twin pump, and 4 ram system. I'm not that knowledgable on hydraulics, but I've driven this car enough to know it works very well.. I've fitted a catch tank for the hydraulic fluid and that's it.. It's a 2.8 straight six auto (the auto is very necessary when messing while moving believe me). It's not what you'd call a comfy car as it's bouncy as hell, has a chain steering wheel, and the exhaust blows, but I have daily driven it to work and back for a while and it's not that bad. It's a really solid car. No structural rust, a couple of bubbles on the leading edge of the bonnet, and one of the previous owners managed to jump it into something and give it some light scratches on the passenger front wing. The interior is lovely velour curtain material. It's part and parcel of the comedy genius that is this car. Taxed and MOT'd for about 7 months if I remember correctly.. Insurance costs me around £400 a year. This car is cheaper than a very cheap thing at £3000 PM me if you want to know more. I need it gone asap so first come first served with the most fun you've ever had in your life. http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo1.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lol11.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo2.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo3.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo4.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo5.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo6.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo7.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo8.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lolo9.jpg http://media.driftworks.com/Phil/Lolo/Lol10.jpg

My bad, it is from a Supra, so it's 1.5way then I guess.
