    MOT System

Thanks guys; when I pick the car up later I'll ask for the old hoses. If they genuinely are split, I'll let the other garage know that they missed it! Cheers for the help

    MOT System

Hi all, I took my car for its MOT just before Christmas and it failed on a couple of things. The garage I took it to quoted me a ridiculous price for the work, so I took the car back and booked it into another garage at a much better price. However, the day it was due in it snowed and nothing got done; then Christmas happened and I've had to book it into yet another garage to get the work done (and another MOT). Just got a phone call from this garage stating that they've fixed the things that it originally failed on, but it has also failed as the front brake hoses are split and it would cost me £215 for them to fix it... I rang around a bit and got them down to £150. Does this sound like the original garage missed this (and should I bring this to their attention), or more like they are trying to get extra money from me? I would have thought that if the hoses were about to go, the original garage would have issued an advisory? Any advice greatfully received! Simon
  4. Audacity; it's free... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ The only thing you have to do to save in mp3 is download a certain dll (lameenc.dll if memory serves correctly) and tell the program where it is... very easy
  5. I once slept with a girl who sneezed in her sleep (I didn't know this was possible), the force of which made her fart and she woke herself up rather confused....
  6. I thought that no 5 was more efficient than no 2? At least when JC did that drive to Edinburgh and back on one tank of fuel, that's what the expert said...
  7. Anyone need a space saver? It's got a tyre in pretty reasonably condition and is currently just cluttering up my parents' garage...
  8. Yeah... very odd... funny video though!
  9. Weird that, just listening to that on the radio now...

  11. Surely the huge amount of extra torque that the BMW has would kill the supra?
  12. Hi guys, Need a bit of advice, as I am quite naive about all this...! In March, my Supra was involved in an accident. I reported this to my insurance company who duly recovered and assessed the vehicle. It was classed a write off. After much to-ing and fro-ing, I received an offer letter just after Christmas. I had personalised number plates on the car when it was crashed. I have just rung the insurance company to get the number plates back, but was told that the car has already been sold. I rang the salvagers who told me that they auctioned the car in September. I am pretty sure that since I hadn't accepted (or even received) an offer, the car was still legally mine. I am now in the situation that I have lost my number plates which were an eighteenth birthday present from my parents. Are the insurance company allowed to do this? And is there any way that I can get the plates back? Any help, as ever, gratefully appreciated!
  13. Sorry... still haven't woken up yet!
  14. Adam Kokesh said this I believe... Maybe we should be thinking down these lines?!
  15. Yup them; we just remove them because we find they make scripts more difficult to read, and are superfluous as long as you name things correctly Thanks, that's what I suspected
  16. Hi, I know there are several SQL Server gurus on here so thought I'd ask here... Is there any way to turn of the square brackets when scripting database objects? I don't really want to have to go through deleting them manually! Cheers, Simon
  17. Thanks Michael! How do you find all these things?
  18. I really like Kahil Gibran... I think he was a very clever poet and love the way he uses language... some of it is very romantically written as well so may help in your quest. http://www.katsandogz.com/gibran.html Also, of course Jack Kerouac
  19. On the radio the other day, I head a good quote but can't remember what it was or who said it... I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any idea who said it or what the correct form is? The general gist of it is "If the law starts to act against ordinary people, it is time to revolt"...
  20. I had a very similar thing happen to me a few years ago; I supposedly jumped a red light (certain I didn't), no actual evidence, but a police van full of bored policemen. Went to the police station to complain the next day, was told just to accept it otherwise they would get my licence revoked in court as I had a panic attack when I was stopped and searched (this apparently makes me unfit to drive). I ended up just taking the points and fine, but regret it to this day. I'm afraid I can't offer any proper advice, but if possible (and depending on how much it is likely to cost) I think you should fight it. Good luck

    Free Stuff

Isn't that the point of the thing? To allow you to keep an eye on how much you are contributing to global warming by keeping warm? BTW, got my wind up torch on Monday; thanks Michael!
  22. I sent eBay a message a couple of weeks ago regarding people selling OpenOffice (free software), which violates the licence. They haven't bothered to do anything... Surprise.
