you dont need to lock the cams, you lock the crank pulley its self which will allow you to take the timing belt off and the covers to allow you access to the pump from there its plain sailing

its because of the writers strike over in america, most series are suffering

change the pads and see where you are. i had the same noise, even thought my pads looked ok, changed them and the noise was gone
