    Nov / Dec Meet

Oooh loads of posts looks like a good meet in prospect. Meeting point - really needs to be determined by what people can find. The Wheel is well signed and not far off the motorway, there is also a petrol station very close by for those wanting to fuel up and avoid getting scamped in the wilds! Services are the easiest to find by far though and we can head back that way anyway as it makes a nice loops and stops us recovering any roads. Food - hmmm. If it was summer i'd say bring sarnies and lets picnic or stop at the chippy in callendar. with this being december though that might not be a good move. There is a pub with a fair sized car park at Kilmahog which we could check out or we can go into Stirling for food afterwards. THere is a Pizza Hut at Springkerse if anyone fancies that. We'll probably not get there until mid afternoon though so big breakfasts could be the order of the day. There is also bound to be Brewer's Fayre jobs all over the place so could try one of those. m.
  4. even better at Camskill £104 for the fronts (452's the 451's aren't meant to be as good says the brother in law an SXOC drifter) Wouldn't touch MyTyres again delivery from them has been pants. Camskill sent the stuff next day. m.
  5. I just bought some Falken 452's after a bad experience with MyTyres the cheapest i could get them for was £71 from Camskill mind you that was for fronts 235/40/r17s the rears are a bit more but i'll be ordering from them again. m.

    No More Supra

My FTO GPX was a barnstorming car. One of the first 1994 cars and still drove like new. I piled 30,000 miles a year on it and it never missed a beat once but then - i looked after it and serviced it. Even now people think a 2.0 engine making 100bhp/litre is amazing engineering, FTO did it twelve years ago. Tiptronic gearbox that changes instantly not half an hour after you flick the lever like some of the current cars do? Check. Computer box that knows how you drive, learns your style and adapts accordingly? Check. I got the auto Supra because i liked the Tiptronic FTO and i have to say the FTO box was a lot more advanced. Excellent driver too i happily kept with modern day Civic Type R's and Integras. Only thing with the FTO handling was it would lose the back before the front, not an expected trait in a front engine front wheel drive motor. Sexy Supra - good luck with you new car but without being funny i would invest some cash in an advanced driving course and some race track tuition then maybe go for your Institute of Advanced Motoring. If getting in a powerful car scares you then you really should learn how to drive it. If a situation develops that you are unsure of and you either floor it or brake when you shouldn't you could easily do yourself a lot of harm. Not worth it for a few hundred quid - besides you might save a bit of that back on the insurance. m.

    Road tax rant

Not only do they have no tax but they can drive as fast as they like. The address never comes up as we can't run foreign plates and unlike the continental escort to a cash machine they just get the NIP which they ignore. I had to buy Vignettes for the Swiss motorway and we dodged the Austrian one as we avoided the motorways there (the vignettes are motorway only) because we weren't paying for them again. According to a Germany bloke i spoke to Ebay Germany does a cracking trade in Austrian Vignettes as people transfer the spare days for some money back. Do remember thinking at the time it would be a good thing for us to bring in, especially for lorries thundering up and down the country full of foreign diesel so we don't even get duty on that from them. m.
  9. Hills Have Eyes was ok but like a poor Texas Chainsaw Massacre i thought. Nothing shocks anymore which in itself is a bit shocking! m.
  10. Thanks Jim! They are currently held in with two cable ties heh heh but they bend a bit if you put a weekend bag in there so the blind comes out and if you aren't aware swings right out at you when you open the boot! m.
  11. Looking for some clips for the rear blind, the ones in Mertoc are smashed to bits and not having a lot of luck sourcing some more! Does anyone have any for sale? The bit i mean is the bit the rear blind actually sits in, the sort of plastic covers just behind the rear seat. Mine rattle a fair bit and putting stuff in the boot makes the blind jump out and slap you in the face next time you open her up! Cheers and thanks and things. m.
  12. Again, not having a go. Met Mark (or Marc) a few times in his Skyline. Nice chap
  13. Hmmm everyone else seems to have got a good deal out of the garage apart from me then. I know i asked about adjusting the tappets on the FTO, three places quoted me £70 for a two hour job. The Garage quoted me double that. As i said i have never ever seen a bad review on the place but i just the impression they were just very specialised. Happy to be wrong but i can only comment on my own experience. m.
  14. Several options for meeting i reckon - The best drive to where we are going involves going through Denny and up to Thornhill. I do this run a lot simply because it is rather nice also why i suggested it heh. Being close has no bearing whatsoever honest! Anyway, meeting points - Either in the Central Retail Park at Falkirk where the tesco etc is. If any needs directions just let me know. Or at the Falkirk Wheel Car Park. Both easily reachable from Glasgow or Edinburgh. Other option, less driving involved is to just meet at Stirling Services just off the motorway. If anyone does actually want to go into Stirling then we could meet at Springkerse Retail Park but that's a bit of a trek in toweards town just to come back out again. Preferences? m.
  15. Good to know He's only worked on the Mrs Mini so far but the Supra will be going along at some point i'd have thought. In fact the mini needs to go back - the fan's cream crackered. m.
  16. Hmmm not my experience of the garage. £80 an hour i thought at least sure Mark put something on FTO board about it. Ian Stewart - £30 an hour so for basic mechanics or even swapping a cambelt i know i'd save £50 However you need a car fettled and properly tuned or a good engine build i'd go see Mark because he does know his stuff. Nothing against them but they obviously can't adjust labour prices to how technical the job is as they'd have made the money by taking another car in. Contacts for Logans' http://www.logansgarage.co.uk Also run by a bloke called Mark. Bloke who does all my Dad's work is another Mark perhaps someone should do a study of mechanics names... m.
  17. what alarm is it? I had remote start on my FTO the alarm was AvantGuard G5 with the blue lights. The remote start was the same as someone else here, the button with the one star on it. The lock unlock and boot were obvious, the two star button was silent entry (locked or unlocked but only flashed indicators so the beep didn't annoy people late night. once the car is running the indicators should just stay on and the car should still be locked and alarmed. you need to get in, put the key in and turn it to the normal running position - don't try to start it obviously! Then you had to put your foot on the brake and you'd have control. m.
  18. Depends what you want doing. Service stuff Logan's Garage in Leith have been ok for me. They do all the imports for a local company so know what they are looking at. The Garage is supposed to be great if you want really technical stuff doing but they are pricy if it is easy stuff that any garage could do. As mentioned already Brian's (TDR) dad does servicing work and is dead nice. m.
  19. I said second as it seems easier but having been thinking about this for a bit before saying owt (basically because i did the same run with the FTO Club) i'm up for any of the weekends posted. m.
  20. Some actually come tooled up with pliers etc so end up damaging wheels or valves trying to pry them off. Weirdly i had some Mitsubishi ones on my FTO that didn't get touched (at least at home) for 2 years. The plain but metal ones off the Supra went in 2 weeks. Now only have one left. m.

    Nov / Dec Meet

okie poke for reference y'all here's the route to Fort William, Stirling is sort of in the middle for Glasgow peeps, you just approach Crianlarich from a different direction really. Also reckons about a 100 mile from start point. http://www.multimap.com/map/aproute.cgi?client=public&startx=279338&starty=693273&endx=0&endy=0&startrd=&starttown=Stirling&startpc=&startcountry=GB&endrd=&endtown=fort%20william&endpc=&endcountry=GB&rn=GB&qs=s&starttime=11:22&input_rt=aproute_pan&lang= and the other trip should be Aberfoyle, my mistake there. Better start from Falkirk for twisty roads and scenary but Stirling is the easy centre point for everyone. http://www.multimap.com/map/aproute.cgi?client=public&startx=279338&starty=693273&endx=0&endy=0&startrd=&starttown=Stirling&startpc=&startcountry=GB&endrd=&endtown=aberfoyle&endpc=&endcountry=GB&rn=GB&qs=s&starttime=11:25&input_rt=aproute_pan&lang=

    Nov / Dec Meet

No need to run across to Glasgow to set off to Fort William - start at Stirling services. People from Glasgow come up M80 and everyone else up the M9 That would be a good start point for both tours actually. From there the run to Fort William is about 120 miles (and i suggest a tour not a racr to to the hills heh) or about 60/70 miles round trip on some quite tight roads but with possible picture stops along the way. m.

    Nov / Dec Meet

Aye that's what i was thinking either a scoot up to Fort William, set off in the morning, dinner at McD's and then back via the loop to Kinlochleven. Or - slightly shorter with the chance of some food at a pub or failing that from a chippy a run out the back of Denny through Killin? and up to Aberfeldy basically follow the Trossachs Trail back to Callendar and then either head back to Stirling for some food or back to the Motorway for all to go their own way. m.
  24. Not Seafield Coachworks though please! Need someone who knows what they are doing with Supras and who gives free estimates and doesn't rip people off. Any suggestions? Yell shows a lot of different places but finding one that is any good is hard. Someone must have taken a car somewhere before.... all help appreciated. m.
