I see. I think I'll keep mods to a minimum then til I can afford another insurer (I take it Sky insure against the modifications then?) Til then I think I will go as far as BPU. Still, no matter what I get to drive such an awesome car as standard, don't really need to modify it! Thanks for that bit of critical info locky!

You have got my attention with that one. Is that with admiral or is it because I am a young driver mate?

Sorry been away, took some time to get back from work. I was expecting some of these comments earlier but just to clear things up a bit. 1) At the moment I am with Tescos and paying £800 per year, 23 yrs old, 3 yrs NCB. I did this over the phone and I know it is insured as a Mk4 as I made sure they knew that over the phone as well as it was a j-spec import. Using this ballpark figure I can now expect other companies to insure me for a similar price e.g. £660 isn't too far from £800, granted it is a difference of £140. 2) See this pic of Admiral to show you that it is a 1994 j-spec import (it must be a MkIV as it shows up manufacturing dates between 1993-2001) http://www.leelb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Admiral2.jpg For people paying too much (e.g. 30+ yrs with 3yrs+ NCB for £900+) It could be a consequence of the occupation you specified. e.g. If I tell admiral that I am unemployed instead of a professional then the price almost DOUBLES!!! So your occupation obviously makes a key difference!

Just had a quote from Admiral insurance, multicar quote, and was definately quoted happy!! I'm 23, 3 yrs NCB and they want £660 for my j-spec Supra TT, protected no claims, fully comp etc... and £390 for a Rover 220 Turbo Diesel (new shape) as my runaround & commuter, again fully comp. This sounds too good to be true considering last year I couldn't even get insured on a Twin Turbo. Has anyone here had any dealings with them and this 'multicar' option just want to make sure I can still gain proper No Claims bonus etc before I consider this. I mean £660 fully comp at 23 on a TT!! May be the cheapest insurance quote ever for a driver my age!

Well, being a Toyota, unless you really muck about with the engine somewhat, I don't think that will happen

and welcome to the forum!! You've joined the right place, great bunch of people on here!

Think we're missing the actual facts here. Its not about whether the vacuum hose/nozzle etc conducts electricity. It is the objects ability to gain an electrical charge that matters here... ANY material has the ability to gain and hold a static build up of electrical charge. (and plastic/rubber is VERY good at holding this charge as it is an INSULATOR and therefore cannot dissapate its charge easily) You know this as if you rub a baloon against your hair you can stick it to a wall or rub a nylon stick with a cloth (remember the old bending of water trick in Science!! ) And both baloons and nylon are rubber and plastic!!! By rubbing the object you are either 'rubbing off' electrons or 'rubbing on' electrons to the object. The object therefore gains a net electrical charge. (i.e. a build up/deficit of electrons at the objects surface) and this charge will transfer to an object to balance its charge. To put this in context with the hoover thing... You turn on the dyson, the air quickly travels through the nozzle and 'rubs' electrons off the plastic, leaving the nozzle with a positive electrical charge. (you also have a spinning motor that also generates more charge within the hoover). Now, when you put this static charged nozzle near the computer it can discharge through the motherboards circuitry which toasts any microelectronics it passes through. phew.... now my brain hurts... time for bed!

Nah he lives here in Nailsea around corner from me, I used to work with the kid when I did factory work during Uni. He got it 1.5 weeks after I got mine and was well annoyed as I was the only one in Nailsea, but not all that bad as his ain't a twin turbo! Mind you, I think he would hurt himself in a Twin turbo, he's lost the back end already on that one and he lets his mate get in the car and bash the thing off the rev limiter in the car park here in Nailsea

I don't know the lad but my thoughts are with him and his family. This is the second forum I have been a member of and a member has had a severe accident. The possibility of having a severe accident myself is something I have to try and put aside in my head when I go to drive a fast car like my Supra as it's stories like these that can make you think and really put me off driving a fast car. I was a member of Fiestaturbo.com when I was tinkering with my first cars and at the time a member went to buy a 2.0 Zetec Turbo Fiesta, with his dad, from a fellow member. On the way home he overtook his dad and the car lost control. He ended up crashing and passing away minutes later at the scene in front of his dads eyes (I can't even imagine how his dad felt, it's the sort of thing that destroys people and families). I had met this member and I can tell you now it couldn't of happened to a nicer guy, who definately wasn't the sort to drive around like a tw@t. I really hope he recovers and let me use this opportunity to tell everyone to please be careful out on the road.

Can't wait til someone tries that with the end of a whoopie cussion attached to a BOV!!! lol

File Shredders! There are a few freeware ones on the net. Instead of just removing the reference to the file from the File Allocation Table they write random garbage data to the areas of the disc that where originally occupied by the file you intend to delete. Most of them are just drag and drop. I.e. Drag the file/folder you want permanently deleted to the program and they are gone. If anyone tries to recover the file(s) they will just recover random garbage data! eg. http://www.handybits.com/shredder.htm

Thanks for that steve, will get it out and have a measure oh err...

Thanks for straightening that out for me guys, I think I'll probably go down the Boost controller route then and was already planning on getting a FMIC when insurance allows (still a baby at 23 as far as insurance goes:rolleyes: ) and when money allows, got to buy 2 new rear rubbers soon and some car tax Til then I will see how it goes when the weather cools down, which I hope isn't anytime soon!

WOW 1st off, thanks for the replies. The car is as I bought it, only had it a month. I can definately feel number 2 come on, the car really pulls more, sometimes looses traction if not careful and the exhaust changes tone at 4000RPM. Also boost guage reads higher when second turbo comes on. I would think the boost guage is correct as its defo not seeing more than 1 bar as fuel cut isn't cutting in (I haven't got an FCD yet). I'll try taking the restrictor ring off and see if it makes a difference i.e fuel cut should come in. Just out of interest, where abouts in the exhaust is the restrictor ring fitted? And where do I buy another one if it is too small? I may go single turbo next year if BPU isn't enough for me so would a boost controller be more sensible as it could be used for controlling boost on a single turbo? Many thanks so far.

I am new to turbos in general so there could be a stupidly simple answer to my problem but please bear with me! I have done a lot of reading and searching to try and resolve it but I can't. I have a 94 j-spec TT and it has both cats removed and a restrictor ring as well as a Blitz NUR spec exhaust system. When boosting my Boost Guage is only showing 12 PSI max boost which, If I work it out, is 0.85 Bar? (1 Bar ~ 14 PSI I think if I can recall from my Chemistry Degree) I have read that 0.85-0.9 Bar is about standard boost but I have also read that Twin decat, restrictor ring and full s/s exhaust are the 1st few steps in going BPU and should end up increasing a j-specs boost pressure to around 1.1 - 1.2 Bar. Is my boost guage faulty or is the car not boosting properly? Could it be that the current restrictor ring is limiting it to 0.85bar? Please help, I am a little bit stuck for ideas...

Was coming toward me in Worle High Street towards Lloyds TSB and turned at the roundabout. Wouldn't have seen me as I was taking my friend out for a driving lesson. Bloody L plates make everyone go mental and try to get in ahead of us at all costs! Was a clean example and looked like a facelift model to me...

Ooopss sorry, yeah, that was where I went wrong at 1st, my bad. Sorry Sabrina, you could have been stuck at work all night if someone else hadn't corrected me!!
-
You don't need to know how ....
-
You almost had it there except you know now that its suppost to be a number 7 not a 9... but also 1 other small thing wrong.... Trying not to give too much away....
-
I think he's right... if you put mine into 'L' position even with the manual off it won't change up gear, it stays in that gear whether I speed up or slow down (limits the box to first gear)

OMFG just done it, thanks for helping an hour pass at work!!
