Tee hee, I can imagine Darryl's face as my 17-month old shouts 'Hiya!' to him at 2AM from his cot and not sure my mrs. would be too chuffed with such an arrangement either.
-
Darryl I may need your sat night room at the other hotel if I can't get something at Ibis - assuming you're keeping the other one as also non refundable?
-
Still looking for the Saturday at Ibis - otherwise I'll need to book into wherever I can get on the Saturday. Darryl I said to Ben that's fine if he's got a taker for both nights as I'd lose my £50 for the Friday taking his booking.

Not always an indicator - my bust BL box had lovely pinky red fluid in it still despite the broken 2nd gear sprag, I had to send BL pics of the fluid and a video of what the car was doing. Sounds like a speedo convertor is in the loop so is likely the no.1 culprit!

I contacted Ben / UGP at 2.45pm about that room D ^^ but I only want the Saturday (as booked Friday direct and it's non refundable) so have said so to Ben, happy to pay £49 as that's what the Friday cost me - I know some people got the £29 / night advance rate. Not heard back from Ben yet, though if he paid £49 a night he'd no doubt rather sell on to someone that can take both nights to get his £98 back!

Have got into the Ibis for the Friday night and hoping for a last minute cancellation on the Saturday to keep my room for the 2nd night. If anyone is cancelling their room for the Saturday, please let me know so I can nab it!

Nuts acceleration as always Jamie!

Hard to tell without seeing the car from the outside as you launch - you'll know yourself from the feeling of forward momentum just on the edge of wheelspin on the launch. A good one with a hi stall auto doesn't have much drama, just hooks and goes nice and smoothly. I ran a PI 3800 stall on mine. Seemed to work well, though most view that as overkill on stock turbos. I fear you may be on borrowed time with the BL box given the torque level The best answer for drag with a high torque Supra that is proven is still a 3-Speed TH400 conversion, though there is an alternative 4-Speed based conversion now.

That's a good point by yakk if the raised rev limit means the syvecs feeds the stock ECU an altered signal - that would cause similar issues to what some speedo convertors do. Stock ECU needs an unaltered signal to know when to change gear. A hi stall launch is like slipping a clutch - helps you feed in the power 'til the lock up point. Instant full boost power on launch with building boost through launch control can be counter-productive and overwhelm whatever tyres you're using.

Looking for a double room if anyone has one (will have the mrs. and my 17-month old son along so will get them to add a cot to a double) for friday and saturday night ideally. Will book an alternative hotel last minute if I can't get into Ibis for both nights - want to avoid moving all our stuff. Cheers, Brian.

Hi Jamesy, Just got round to reviewing these vids - sorry 'bout the delay! The 1st change looks like wheelspin, if not it could be the box slipping. It'll get worse if so. My 1st BL box would hit the limiter when I broke it before going into 2nd then wouldn't change up at all = broken 2nd gear sprag. The way it revs and when the hi stall stops slipping (going on engine tone) sounds normal compared to mine - the low rpm changes in the last vid just looks like you pussied out cos it'll change at lower RPM when not gunning it. Speedo convertor is a good shout - if you have one, try taking it out of the loop and see if the behaviour changes, some of them put out an incorrect signal to the box which causes issues. Boostlogic blamed my occassional manual shifting when my 1st BL box failed. Reasoning was that increased line pressure is part of the mods they do to the box, using MANU mode also increases line pressure so the combo ends up with dangerously high line pressures causing component failure. Launch control is for girls - no need for it with your setup IMO. Are you running at Supra Pod? Should see decent times if you can get the launch nailed through hard power braking on the line as per last description I gave you on launching it . Say Hi if you're there so I can watch your runs Cheers, Brian.

Congrats Jamie - very nice result! what Turbo is that with now then? Happy enough with it and the spool you get? Cheers, Brian.

Yeah agree, they did ruin the format last year too

After last year's debacle with a complete lack of info from the new organisers (used to be Chris Mann who kept us all informed), I said I wouldn't organise another club entry. I've not had one single piece of contact from the organisers this year so screw 'em - they can enjoy their evo vs. Impreza fest as those seem to be the only clubs they're bothered about. Cheers, Brian.

Just caught up with this - looking good Jamie. Respect for ploughing on through the weaknesses, you're certainly pushing the boundaries with your build now Think you just need more seat time with a frozen spec to get your 9 now, you've more than got the legs to do it with those terminal speeds Cheers, Brian.

Nice work D RE: auto's, I think the numbers can be real messed up especially when the car is running a hi stall. Torque Convertors = Voodoo on the dyno IMO
-
Glad you're both OK, it's a shame about the car but you guys are more important. RE: why it happened... I'd say you just turned too aggressively coming into the corner. If you were on the brakes following the overtake then that wouldn't have helped as weight would have been transferred forwards and the back end effectively lightened with less downward force on the tyres so less cornering grip. IMO of course! So many people blame conditions, diesel spills, the Supra just being plain dangerous etc. It just has to be driven a certain way at all times, unless you're looking for some oversteer action Hope you get it mended OK with the chassis itself still being straight.
-
Sounds like you have a similar job to me - who are you with? I've been in Pre-Sales for a few years working for a software vendor and mostly enjoy it, though we do feel the pressure of the number in our organisation but ultimately don't carry the can as the sales guys do. I'm a Technical Account Manager so a bit of a hybrid - my background was working as a consultant in data management / virtualisation / storage and before that an SE. Previously I clicked the buttons... Now I talk a good game, do high level solution architecture, proposal responses, quoting etc. I'm tempted by sales in this same company as it is even more lucrative with slightly higher base and the same again to be had in commission, but put off by the constant pressure and forecasting related activities. Cheers, Brian.

Not sure if they're still available but I liked the Supra Ecsta 712's I had and managed low 60ft's / decent times over the 1/4 on a set so traction decent. There are a number of Kumho tyre models though, some not so great.

I own a CBR600 - a '98 model with a little less power and heavier than the current crop of tiny 600 crotch rockets, but you still wouldn't stand a chance in an NA Supra. My biggest challenge when going WOT is keeping the front wheel on the ground...

Nice! Car just seemed to grip and go without really squatting... bizarre!!

lol I think it subliminaly drew me to it. Yeah the Bikes are deceptive - they feel stupidly fast because you're exposed to the elements and feel and hear them so much when you're on them but when you look towards 1/4 mile figures they're not all that quicker than the likes of my Supra was and a well sorted single would no doubt have most, especially in 70 - 150+ type pulls where the Supra really excels and where you're likely to be up against one on a dual carriageway or similar private road. Bikes are also great fun on twisty country roads with all the leaning etc. and where you can't argue with them is sheer bang for buck in the performance stakes. Launching one full throttle and trying to keep the front wheel on the ground is also sheer inducing.
