Right, long story short.
Quite a few months ago now, as some may remember, I took my N/A to Silverstone for Jezz and his crew to breathe on it and make it go fast fast fast!!
Very soon after I had an intermittent problem with 3 warning lights coming on (battery, cat temp and oil level). and towards the end total loss of power, as in the car would die even when it was running. This turned out to be a farked alternator. I purchased a used one from Jezz/Steve at Silverstone and this solved the problem entirely and its been fine ever since.
Last night, I started her up and the same three lights are on, and after 5mins of ticking over she died and wouldn't start again, as in turn key and absolutely nothing. After a night of charging she starts fine. I put a multimeter on the battery and got 12.6v with the car not running, but 12.2v when running! This should be higher when it's running shouldn't it? If the alt was working then shouldn't it be more so that the battery was getting charged?
So my questions are:-
1. Am I correct in thinking that the alternator I got off Jezz is now knackered?
2. How much would a brand new one cost me from Mr T?
3. Is there any underlying fault that could cause these alternators to blow? Like a bad earth or something??
