  1. I've had two 6 spd manuals. One TT BPU and now 600BHP single. I love the manual box. It is a little agricultural, but then it can handle some serious power. On my current car I find slow moving traffic hard work, the first and second gear rev out quickly and I end up working the gears quite a bit. I believe my biggest issue here though is the heavy RPS clutch I have. I have had the pleasure of driving a friends UK TT BPU auto and have to say I was very impressed. I think generally an auto BPU is a better responding car, certainly a more refined drive. I've not been in a single turbo auto, but I assume the same is still true. I think how the car is setup is very important to the feel of either the manual or auto experience.
  2. I'm with Scott and Chris on this. Seems like the expansion valve to me.
  3. Bingo. He has just come back with 50Ma or 0.05 on most multimeters.
  4. Yes you should do that. That's what he did on mine. I'll ask him now about a reasonable figure for the drain and get back to you.
  5. A battery, even with alarm should do at least 4 weeks. I can only assume a few of you have power drains somewhere. If your alarm installs are anything like the two I have inherited I would look at these first. I had my brother reinstall the Clifford alarms on both my cars as they were so badly done. Luckily for me he's an Auto Electrician
  6. Mine usually lasts about 5 weeks before it goes flat. The longest I have left it was 6 weeks and it kicked over. Unfortunately I did leave it for 7 weeks and it was flat. It has since decided even after a slow charge that it won't retain a charge. So I need a new battery. I'm thinking about a Optima yellow top, purely because they are robust and can handle repeated total discharges.
  7. Might be worth sticking a crime stoppers in on the Facebook account holder offering the cash. I would also flag the account holder up to Facebook administration and get it shut down.
  8. Big fan of the wire tuck I see Ian......
  9. He said he wants a reliable car
  10. Would be a shame to break it. Although I would happily grab parts off you (quite a few to be honest - yes I am shameless!). Have you had the car looked at by a specialist to see what the issue is? Seems that if you have refreshed the head and turbos, the only reason for the smoke would be worn piston rings? Has the car been compression tested / leak down tested? I would get it looked at professionally to see what the prognosis is, then make a determination. Could the smoke be residual oil from a previous leak in the exhaust system?
  11. Some great work going on in this thread. The paint looks loads better than it did to start. Probably better than most people's now. Ref those brakes. I'm not certain they would be repairable. If the pins are that badly corroded, the holes in which they fit will be equally as bad. Thus new slide pins probably won't do much and they will start binding quite quickly again.
  12. Yes that was a Toyota price via Steve Manley. I think it quite reasonable. Should last a lot longer over here, especially if garaged.
  13. I have them fitted on my car. No idea what benefit they give but it appears quite a few well respected engine tuners and manufacturers use them. Like most tuning things, maybe the benefit is very slight. But every little helps I suppose. I know Cosworth use them.
  14. I wish I had kept it now. That was the last one stocked by Toyota in Japan that you have.
  15. If you want value for money I would possibly look at a Kia Sportage or Pugeot 3008. We bought a top spec 3008 from new in 2010. Was a tad over £20K. Has every extra you can imagine. We went for the 1.6 turbo deisel engine. This will not give you a sub 10 sec 0-60 but it's an OK drive. Average MPG is around 54, and that is predominantly short trip at the moment. It's done 89k miles with minimal issues. So reliability hasn't been an issue for us. For a good few years the wife was doing a 100+ mile daily round trip to work and back. If you could get over the badge snobbery it's a great car. Could probably pick up the 2 ltr deisel engine with low miles and loads of toys for you budget. Loads of room both up front, for passengers and in the boot.
  16. You've already highlighted this little beauty. Well within budget and it's not red. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/toyota/supra/toyota-supra-5-speed-manual/4339582
  17. That is a very tidy interior. Virtually unblemished and with much sought after front mats.
  18. Personally this would make me doubt the durability of their product, if installation was either so complex or the product so fragile as to state such rediculous stipulations. Truthfully it seems nothing more than captive market extortion and trying their very best to avoid liability for faulty products. Sorry a little off subject and rant like. I'll stop now and wish you all the best in getting something out of HKS.

    Supra price

I'd ask for info on the conversion. I wouldn't pay as much for a converted car. Regardless of the quality of the work. I like the VIN plate to match the car.
  20. I had this issue in my old Supra and it turned out to be the expansion valve. That's the thing Scott was talking about behind the dash. Simple job for an aircon specialist.
  21. I couldn't own a Supra without aircon. I find them total heat magnets. Aircon is a blessing.
  22. Agreed. That was brilliant.
