Rob W's Supra - Project Thread * Pic Heavy *
mwilkinson replied to Rob W's topic in mkiv Supra Projects
Mine wasn't as bad as that, but it has marks, just the poor quality of the paint finish. Definitely worth some additional layers of paint. I'll be doing the same to mine, and the rear crash bar. -
Hi Rob, Yes the rebuild will be exciting, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous or daunted by the task. Jason at Yam6 does the best prices on parts I've come across. He beats bringing parts in from Amayama and the likes once you account for VAT, duty and postage. Definitely my go to now. I'll start by doing a detailed installation of all the body plugs / bungs etc. There are a hell of a lot of them on the car and many people will be very surprised by how many. I'll document the part numbers with photo reference guides. I've bought all that we're still available as new parts. I'll then move onto installing the new brake and fuel lines. Like you I've bought brand new everything I can for this. I'll also need to sort out what I'm going to do with the sound deadening.

Big news. Car is coming home. I'll be heading over to Kane at the bodyshop tomorrow morning to prep the car for travel and then it will be transported back to my house. Gulp, I then can start rebuilding it. I've also ordered a new rear bumper bar from Jason at Yam6. Mine's not bad, but it was only £140 so I couldn't resist. I should be able to pick the bumper bar and bonnet pad up next week.

Received mine yesterday. Thank you.

I'd be surprised if I can ever find a new RHD one. Best I could hope for is a very good second hand one. Maybe I need to have a look on the Japanese Yahoo auctions.

Do the bushes themselves have any holes in for the grease pathway? If they did you could always drill and tap some holes and install grease nipples? -
As per the above, I have a pair of new OEM rear suspension dust boots. £45 delivered (postage is for UK mainland only, may need to be higher for anyone abroad - contact me if interested).

Interesting that the sway bar kit comes with spacers under the brackets. I've got the Titan kit front and rear and Dan - previous owner - added similar brackets for the rear of the car. I did ask him why, but he couldn't remeber the exact reason but said it wouldn't have been for no reason. They're not standard on the Titan kit. -
Sold.

I have some new boxed Bilstein B6 shocks for the Supra. Includes 2 x front and 2 x rears. I bought these for my car but decided to go with some HKS Hipermax S suspension instead. £580 posted (mainland UK only).

Thanks Mark

I've had a look for the engine firewall insulation but haven't found one. I'd love to get one though.

There was a dirty rumour circulating on the WhatsApp group that the OEM bonnet insulation was discontinued. I've reached out to Jason at Yam6 and he can't see any supply issues. Despite this I've covered myself and bought a new one. Hopefully pick up next week. I'll also pop into the bodyshop and drop of some of the new body bungs/plugs and all new door, bonnet, boot, bumper and body panels nuts and bolts for painting.

I was originally going to do my own and then I bottled it and got Paul Cheshire to do it instead. I'm sure it's achievable as a home project, but ensuring you have the right shims and setting up the backlash correctly put me off. If you do it yourself you should document it. -

Some nice parts there Rob. Who are you going to get to rebuild your diff? -
I don't think they are different and I've previously bought a new UK Spec ignition panel and used it in a Pre-facelift J-Spec without issue. So even the colour and finish are the same.

Sad times Scott, but better to sell than let it sit there unused. -
Hi Josh, Welcome to the forum and nice looking Supra. You owned it since the magazine article in 2010?

Dedication, nice to see
