Valve Stem Seals Replacement (without head off) In Scotland?
Reidy replied to Reidy's topic in Supra Chat
Yeah Dude everyone seems to be suggesting going with the head off for a complete proper job, to be honest if I'm unlucky and I find out the turbo seal is away aswell it would be better just getting both done at the same time while the engine was out. I may contact you dude just to get a couple of prices mate. kslb I forgot about Michel Lane, he really knows his stuff and Darlington isnt that far, I've got a mate that stay's in County Durham so that could come in handy, cheers mate. -
Valve Stem Seals Replacement (without head off) In Scotland?

Yeah mate I've already got all the parts needed, it is a cracking guide that but it's just seems a bit too much for myself. It is a pain paying that sort of cash when it seems you're not really getting anything "new" out of it. Anyway a really do wish you the best of luck doing your's, hope everything goes o.k and keep us posted if you can. -

I'm guessing you'll be happy with that +600 for a while then you'll be wanting more and more. We'll see a Geo project thread next "going for 1000bhp" you'll be like the Scottish JamieP...I can see it -
Valve Stem Seals Replacement (without head off) In Scotland?

It would be a lot better than having to travel but I guess its just how long he would have to keep it for, I know that may better as he could take his time and do a proper job. I'll need to have a think about it mate, might pay him a visit and see what he thinks. Cheers Geo P.S New cams? remap? more power on the way? -

Yeah the car still run's perfect, boost's perfect and pull's very strong but it's just annoying when you are pulling away from a light and you see that little puff of blue smoke in your rear view! Thanks Scott I may drop Jurgen a pm. -

Yeah I know what you're saying mate, it's unfortunate we dont have someone like Dude or LeeP up here. I'm not too sure if Jurgen takes on this sort of work and I'm pretty sure he's got a few build's on at the moment including his GTR. -

Thanks for that pistonbroke, really cheered us up I'm not saying you are wrong mate and I'm not doubting the amount of research you have put into the matter but it's just everything I that read seemed to point to the Valve Stem Seals. That's gonna sting if it's the both of them -
Hi Guys, Very much a Lurker here and never really post but i've searched the forum and couldnt find what I was looking for so here I am asking for some advice. I believe the valve stem seals are away on my car, it's a 93 TT with 65k miles on the clock. I know there is sometimes alot of confusion over wether the the Turbo seals or the VSS are away but I believe mine to definately be Valve stem seals:- Blue smoke on startup Blue smoke when idle then blip throttle Blue smoke on overrun I am looking at getting them replaced using the the rope trick or air in the cylinder method but unfortunately the mechanic I use will not entertain it without taking the head off, I didnt want to go to this hassle or expense especially since i'm not planning on doing anything to the head or bottom end. Now I've had a look at Tony license's excellent "How to" on replacing the seals but have to say its waaaay beyond my mechanical skills so I'm looking for a Garage/Mechanic thats quite local to undertake the job. I know Dude at AFR does this for about £5-600 which I think is a very reasonable price but it's a bit of a journey and would prefer not to travel that sort of distance. So this is probably directed more towards the Scottish member's around the Glasgow/Strathclyde area. Could anyone recommend a Garage that would do the job? Thanks! Scott

Yeah you have nice one too mate. Cheers! Scott

http://www.hypertechscotland.co.uk the site leaves a lot to be desired and is not updated regularly but like a said the workmanship on my car has always been top notch and the staff are always very pleasant. Regarding which Suspension Dave I haven’t checked too much into yet, mine is also a 93 and like yours the Suspension is beginning to show its age. I'll get Xmas and that out the way and I'll get onto it in the New Year. Scott P.S CARNTYNE! and you still have your wheels!!! jk

The BPU is nice yeah, at first I was a bit underwelmed after I got it done but it grew on me and it just makes the car feel sharper, quicker and better all round. I'll be looking at getting my suspension done pretty soon after crimbo, I use Duncy at Hypertech up in Falkirk, never had any problems with the work he has done but its good to know the garages that the Scottish members trust with their car, the lads down south are spoilt for choice with the amount of top quality tuners/garages they have. The apexi induction with the cold air feeds sounds nice, good luck with that and the angel eyes project aswell. I'm also from the eastend, Carmyle to be exact but dont hold that against me Scott

Yeah they're 4500k's, I was a little worried about the temp when Nic sent them but after they were fitted I was well chuffed. No pics of mine i'm affraid, well no decent ones anyway and yeah mines is a TT, just had her BPU'd not long ago. So is the suspension the only thing you've got planned for yours? or have you got a long list like myself, once you start you cant stop, endless money pit it is Dave do you mind if I ask where you get your work done on your car or are you a DIY mechanic? Scott
-
Awrite mate, yeah i'm an avid watcher, very rare poster on the forum The HID's are 4500K's, they were sourced by NIC a while back when I ordered my facelift headlifts from him. The lights and the HID's really transform the front of the car. I was looking at your brief in your garage and it didnt look the same as the one I seen you in, is it the same car? In your garage its black but last night it looked like a dark navy blue, either way.. she was looking very tidy, nice to see clean looking stock Sup for a change! Scott

LOL not from me anyway , I've seen a pic of geo on here and he looked in cracking shape. I'm just a gym noob and have just started eating right and training right to try and put on some good clean mass but its easier said than done. L18msy I wont be able to make the Nems show on the 31st due to work Jamesy and Clarky hopefully i'll see you guys up there sometime. Scott
-
That would be me mate, seen your brief aswell and it looked sweet, I've always liked those little Honda's The town was mobbed due to the cracking weather and they're were a few lovely cars out and about. Scott P.S Geo I Live in Glasgow bud.
-
I know! reserved for me! Yeah the car looked sweet mate, I seen the bash you are talking about on the bumper but it didnt look to bad to be honest. I'm usually up a Monday, Tuesday and a Thursday so you can have it any other day The gym's not bad, there is a good few posers that go and the staff could be a bit more friendly but the talent that goes up more than makes up for the downfalls ( and I dont just mean the Rockettes ) What nights do you go yourself mate?
-
You were in my space! Was joking that my space better be there on the way up, it was funny to see a similar looking Sup sitting in it, my mate was laughing his head off I was trying to get beside you to get a pic of the two of them together but it was just too busy outside the gym. Your car looked mint mate. Could you tell me what bumper you had on it, I didnt reconize it? Scott

First one was on Argyle St heading west, it was white, kitted, spoilerless and had some lovely wheels. Second one was at the Gorbals leisure center, I only got a quick glance but it was red and stock with a private plate I think. Anyone here?
-
Reversing out of a carpark near the St Enoch center round about 6:20pm , I only got a quick look but it looked very nice.... So is it anyone on here?

The Gunmetal one is owned by an asian fellow, I had a quick chat with him in the city centre last weekend, Its an NA and he had it up for sale not long ago but changed his mind . Im not the biggest fan of the VS kit but its a nice looking car. Ive not seen the 866BHP one but a few of my mates have told me about it, I would like to meet the owner to ask them if it is really putting out that power or if it really is just wishful thinkin

If you are really concerned about fuel consumption then I wouldnt think the TT Sup is for you but then again it all depends on how heavy your right foot is. For me its the pleasure you get from driving the Supra that makes it all worthwhile
-
No problem buddy glad I could help Just dont tell yer missus about the fuel consumption before you get one

Not mine mate, im not a fan of the Veilside stuff.
