  1. its not fair, I'm 23 and look about 35 thanks to my grey hair and wrinkles!! But I dont care as I love the attention you get when you drive your Sup... I was home in Glasgow the other week and went out for a spin around the city centre, ended up in a bar with my mate and started talking to these cute girls and when they agreed for a ride home and seen the car they asked... "wow, how can you afford a ferrari?!?" they looked puzzled as I said it was a Toyota, so I just said I am a very wealthy brain surgeon.....
  2. yeah, the rear discs have an extended flange that acts as the drum for the handbrake, thats why when you want to remove the dicsc you need to slacken off the handbrake or else you are fighting the friction of the handbrake shoes against the drum on the disc... thats where the tapometer comes in handy...
  3. thinking of the collapsed internal brake line... how would this affect the movement of the caliper? I'm just thinking back when I changed the caliper, i tried to cramp the line (stupid idea, I know....) so just wondering if I have cause more damage than good.
  4. Trev, brakes are pretty simple to change.... you will need a 14mm spanner, a 17mm spanner, a torque wrench (or breaker bar if no wrench is available), two 3/8 jack screw bolts and a tapomoter (mallet)and a tube of copper grease... I know this as I just changed mine, but be warned.... the discs will not come off without a fight and make sure you release the tension in the handbrake before starting... if everything goes hunky-dorey it is an easy job but if things start to go tits up, then well you may have wished to take it to the garage in the first place...
  5. OK, there is abit of a stroy to this one, so bare with me please... Drove up home to Glasgow last week, done just over 300 miles without a problem. The next morning my ol' man wanted a spin so took him out but after 5 miles there was a funny "schreeching" noise coming from the rear brakes... after nursing her home and taking off the right rear tyre, I concluded I had a seized calliper and judging by the state of the inboard pad (there was no pad left!!) I thought it would be a good idea to change the discs and pads too. Soo, 400 quid later, I have all my bits and change the calliper without a fuss and bled the system fine. The discs on the other hand were a little bit more of a problem.... depsite using screw jacks and releasing the handbrake the discs had to be taken off using a 'tap-omoter' and the old 'hit it to feck' routine. Now, I did damage the handbrake shoe retaining spings but these were also replaced. Now the problem I have is that I feel the right rear (the same wheel where I changed the calliper) is still sticking, after driving back down from Glasgow and a few more trips, it still feels tight and I need a couple of hundred revs more to get her moving, plus the alloy could be used to fry eggs its so hot! When the wheel is in the air it is difficult to rotate, but when the pads are removed the wheel will spin freely, so its not handbrake shoes or bearings.. it seems like the pads are constantly rubbing on the disc.... Soooo, anyone got any ideas?!?! I've checked calliper bore dimensions and they are identicle, the new calliper works freely... brake bias possibley?!!?
  6. heed da baw (you might only get it if youre scottish....)

  18. Decided to pop down to the local Tesco for some bits and bobs and as it's a nice night for a little drive... even decided to take the baffle out of my R*SR exhaust just to annoy the neighbours Anyways, I've had my car for about 4 weeks now and had a couple of 18 year old twats in Clio's and Punto's thinking they can outstrip me, but tonight I pulled up alongside a D-reg Ford Sierra Cosworth. After a couple of glances at each other the lights went green and we both pelted it off the line... I reckon I had him for the first 50 yards but then....... he was offski!! What kind of power are these things kicking out?? I don't think it was stock as I heard his turbo spool up (even over the noise of my exhaust!!) but christ and the preverbial bicycle, it was fast!! So I now want a big fat turbo... its a shame my bank manager wont put anymore 0's on the end of my credit limit.... What made it even more worse was the 10 year old passenger pointing and laughing at me....
