I recently changed my home phone line supplier over to virgin along with their HDTV package and broadband. Their service has been pretty good with only slight teething issues on the broadband side of things, but these issues were eventually rectified. 2 weeks ago however my landline phone goes dead, no dial tone, no nothing. I'm not hugely bothered as I use my mobile 99% of the time, but the wife uses the home phone to talk to her mates/mum/sister for hours on end at weekends, sometimes after having spent all day with them shopping or 'doing lunch'. Anyhoo, she started nagging me recently to do something about it so I phoned virgin today. I told them that about two weeks ago, I noticed the big green exchange box at the end of the road has the doors open on it, and it's been open ever since, no doubt kids have been messing with it and have yanked the wires out. They were pleased with the fact I had told them about it and would send an engineer out to sort it. Fine, all good I think, job done. Then, the guy on the phone says "If you're not home when the engineer calls, you'll be charged a callout fee". Hang on mate, I don't live in the green box at the end of the road, why does he need me there, and why would you charge me for it?. He goes on to say, well he has to test your line after the repairs. I reply, well, you know my home phone number, how about you phone it, if it rings, then it's working. No sir, we need you there.......Unbelievable, I'm not taking a day off work for it, if they bill me for it, I'll go mental. *rant over*
