  1. Also try cutting down on KFCs, big macs, beer and do more CV workouts.
  2. It must be approaching a vacuum inside when that thing fires up. Probably turns up the heater fan for extra air if the windows and sunroof can't cope.
  3. Sounds like your consignment included some illegal immigrants.
  4. I hope the Devonshire constabulary will not be surprised that MICKEY MOUSE is the most common name in that area.
  5. My friend had her 'name' in 'Chinese' tatooed on the base of her spine during a hen weekend in Blackpool. Should have said Caroline but was actually Bee Bamboo.

Probably fail where the hub bolts on. Obviously they're mainly for shine & show. Can't wait for somebody to come up with walnut with beech veneer marquetry. Failure will be by wood worm.
  7. Does it have to be UPS. Try a private courier. Prices vary. It really depends where you're sending it to.
  8. Freezing cold but at least dry. Ideal for a 9 mile training run later.
  9. Did you check your -ve earth connections to body, engine earth strap etc before you go shooting off for that battery? Thinking about it, if it didn't hold charge, then get a new battery.
  10. Strange you should say because last week our Yank owners announced they're closing down our UK site and transferring all engineering, design, development, A&T to Germany. I'm sure there'll be sheds loads of stuff to be rid of. I'll get you a two man torque wrench to stick in your boot. It's about the 2 m long and weighs about 50 kgs. We use it for tightening 200 mm a/f nuts. No chance of undertightening yer nuts!
  11. Any restaurant would be great but as long as the food, service, environment were all excellent. Just watch Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. It's very hard work and very long hours. You must be Polish so you may well think Polish food is the best in the Universe but what do the locals think. Do your research. Find out what the natives want. Cabbage soup may not be to their liking. I wouldn't have thought £20K is enough to open up a restaurant unless you're in a partnership.
  12. That's the thing with eGay. Punters get carried away with the drama of just winning. They forget the money side. A friend was on it 24/7. She won most of the time but later realised she could've bought the stuff cheaper down the High St. She's in eDetox.
  13. The ones we use on our assembly, test and development are Snap-On. They cost a fortune! But the important bit is they get calibrated every month.
  14. Global warming. Sounds great but sadly we Brits just ain't geared up for handling droughts in summer and tornados in winter. So it has to be something to do with saving energy. Start flogging solar panels or wind turbines. Watch Invensys. For some 'strange' reason they've jumped up over the last year. Advanced Power Components has become interesting again. BT recent rises are probably due to the retailing of the BT Hub internet system. Personally I'd stick to utilities and banks. Just look at Severn Trent and Bradford and Bingley!! Premium Bonds! Spend the whole £20K. Max entitlement is £30K. Safe as houses but no guarantee. Any business I'd like to see at least 25% return. Otherwise it's better sitting in a savings bond.
  15. I doubt it was the kerbing that caused the damage and as JamieP later explained the studs were already fractured with rust across the fracture zone. This shows the problem has been lurking for while. A disaster waiting to happen. The bump was the last straw. Torque setting is MEGA important and not just for wheel nuts. I would say these were overtightened past their elastic limit into plastic range then past the yield point. Repeat everytime you change your wheels. Cracks then developed across the studs. The stud tensile loading then drops off considerably. Relative movement occurs between hub and wheel. JamieP swears blind it's nothing to do with torque setting but the studs do not transmit the wheel torque. That would mean 5 studs would be subjected to a combined shear and tensile loading. A splined shaft does this better. The studs hold the wheel to the hub with sufficient frictional load that there's no relative movement. It is the contact surface swhich transmits the engine torque to the wheels. Every bolt/stud joint has a minimum torque level as well as a maximum. This is required to preload the bolt into its elastic limit. Simplistically the bolt behaves like a super high load spring. If undertightened there will be no preload and the joint can shake itself apart. For some applications spring washers are use to add preload. Jumping on a wheel brace to FT setting isn't good enough. Get a calibrated torque wrench.
  16. And what do you think caused the splits? It's definitely a torque setting issue. Use a calibrated torque wrench or start buying studs in bulk.

    How gutted am I!?

No ballet classes for you for the next 2 months.
  18. It's still comes down to the torque setting. 4 out of five studs failing at the same time?!!! The 5 studs when torqued correctly should exert sufficient force to ensure there is no relative movement between the wheel and hub. The roughness of the two contact surfaces determines the friction of the joint. Your failure is classic incorrect torque tightening. Probably too allow low a setting if you are certain the bump was the event when they all failed. Too high a setting and the studs stretch plastically (Hookes Law) but don't reduce load as long as they don't reach the yield point. Ideally any stud/bolt should be torqued to induce enough tensile load to keep it on the elastic range. Apologies for being too technical - it's what I do for a living.
  19. I had this problem. Try swapping bulbs before spending your cash to prove it's not the bulbs. Then if problem persists, check connector and cable. It's a very high voltage to energize the xenon gas in HID bulbs so cable and connector condition has to be very good. Check connectors are dry and clean. My problem was the contact of the terminals in the so-called waterproof AMP connector. Also both bulbs had a milky residue but worked perfectly.

If it's a thick enough, there's no reason why they shouldn't work in any thermoset plastic. There are stronger engineering plastics than polycarbonate like makrolon (ballistic proof). Only question would be longevity.
  21. A mates got an R1. He scares himself silly. Fortunately he's about 6' 4" weighhs 18 stones so tends to slow it down a tad.
  22. Test drove a few 306 diesels. They seem to ask silly money for a old bangers with intergalactic mileage. 1997 plate for £2K. And it's 0-60 in hour and mins! A guy at my work designed a dual tank set up. One tank is neat veggie oil and the other tank is diesel. It's set up to start and stop on diesel then when warmed up switches over to veggie oil. No preheater cos he run a hot water line to the veggie tank. Also the veggie fuel line runs along the exhaust to keep it thin.
  23. Oh them. Yeah she loved them too.
  24. Try smearing Coppaslip high melting point grease on the back of the pad steel mounting plate not much as it can spread on to the friction material and disc.
  25. Damn!! My ex was a Boro fan. Are we talking about Scarborough?
