The crank pulley only drives the serpentine belt. The cam belt is driven from a toothed drive behind the pulley, belt hidden behind covers. It is always pot luck when the crank pulley goes, sounds like the OP has had one of the worst outcomes. With older cars where the rubber damper in the pulley will have age hardened, it is certainly worth doing the Tippex test on a regular basis.

Charge it in the car but keep it well ventilated. Your battery will not like being deep cycled so will not last much longer.

What sad bugger would complain? I would not want to be them if their name should be accidentally released.

Insurance premiums are going up across the board due to personal injury claims going through the roof. We all know of Supra's that have been smashed up, Keron is getting accident damaged cars on a regular basis, so other breakers are too. All this contributes to increasing premiums on the MKIV , add in post code risk and age related factors and you get shafted. Insurers are there to make money, so basing what you expect to pay based on last years figures is not much use in the present climate.

As an Athiest, I don't believe it matters what faith you follow, as long as kindness and caring is at the heart of a faith/way of life you can't go wrong, I think Bishop Desmond Tutu summed it up quite well, "we are made for goodness" The traits of goodness not exclusive to those who follow a religious belief, but should be at the core of being human. Unfortunately most Christian festivals have long been taken over by commercialism so the loving caring aspects have been over taken by the desire for possessions.

Jesus is a recognised prophet in Islam but I think the pagan links are an issue for Islam.

I think the weather may have something to do with it. I have items ordered from the US over a month ago tracking shows three state side, two in the UK and one has vanished. All are Christmas presents with two week normal delivery. It is not just the post office but all couriers. My local postman has been working double shifts to help clear back logs and posties off sick.

Well done for taking him in to a good home.

Though I post a few more cuteness pics. She is really settling in well with all our other cats, she gets on best with our biggest male, a huge long haired black cat, she likes to snuggle up to him when he is sleeping. She has recently discovered the hobby of bird watching from a window sill, her head darting from side to side as she follows their flight to and from bird feeders.

It might not be 3D, but it looks damn good. Just watched A Christmas Carol and Avatar in Bluray 3D both stunning, great involving entertainment. As home cinema goes this is about as good as it gets. The equivalent of going from mono radio to full 7.1 surround sound, or from an N/A to a 700bhp single. It is very involving and certainly gets your attention.

Tell them the culprits drove away in a car with out a tax disc.

In the area where I live we have been lucky enough to see the amazing aerial ballet of 100,000's of Starlings, over the fields around our home in previous years. Like this clip from Sadly the starling is now an endangered species. We have always feed birds from late autumn to late spring. Despite being endangered we still had more Starlings than any other birds coming into the garden to feed, until this year, the most we have seen is four at one time and then only very infrequently. During this very cold weather, finding food is much harder for all our feathered friends so we keep our many feeders topped up. Last year they needing topping up at most every two days. This winter the food is staying for almost a week, this can only mean on thing, the number of birds in the area has dropped dramatically. We have a variety of feeding stations with a number of different foods for different bird species all are staying full much longer. Gold finches eat mainly thistle seeds, last year the thistle feeder as always busy, for most daylight hours so needed filling every two days, this winter it is taking two weeks to empty. Is this a common pattern or a local phenomenon? I am particularly concerned because for the past four years the local gravel pits have been landscaped, hedges planted and allowed to fill with water. Shortly the whole area is to become the largest wetland bird sanctuary in Europe. So we should be seeing an increase in birds due to the rapidly increasing area of natural habitat for all bird species in the area. In the past four years, during every cold snap, we get birds coming to feeders because they can not access enough food in the natural environment. The lack of numbers off all species this year is worrying.

I think the issue with standard crank pulley is the de-lamination which inevitably occurs, but this is associated with age on standard cars. The factory fitted pulley ie the original, tends to fail earlier on higher powered cars, so it could be suggested that they wont last as long on a high powered car. However we are talking about components that are over ten years old that are failing, so unless you are planning a significant rpm rise and really big power, you should be fine with a new stock pulley.

My God... Its full of stars!

I got a pair of glasses free with the set, the rest off ebay.

Rubber hardens with age and at lower temperatures, so a serpentine belt that is absolutely fine in normal conditions can squeal in the cold when the alternator is working its socks off. To rule it our just spray a fine mist of water on the belt if the noise stops and then returns it is just the serpentine belt.

Exactly - The main reason I got mine was for TV and DVD and the quality is fantastic, 3D is just a bonus. Whether it was worth the extra, is irrelevant, I just love toys, and think I may be dead by the time holographic systems are made for living rooms. Not sure whether Sony have got it right with this though. It will be the practically of the glasses that will kill it, if anything does, as the glasses are a necessity and with kids in mind it will cost a fortune, as the fluid filled lenses are very fragile, I dropped a pair about a foot on to a coffee table and one lens died cost £50 to replace. Another down side is no one else can watch without glasses. But for pure indulgence of the senses, on a cold damp winter evening, a good 3D film in 7.1 surround and a good single malt, takes some beating. The thing that has impressed me most is the ability of these sets to up scale and run 3D simulation from any HD disc from a HD player, that is a technological master stroke, I want to put Avatar on in pure 3D and simulated 3D and see what the significant differences really are. How the hell the set knows; in real time, with a 2D format disc, the difference between back, middle and foreground, totally baffles me.

Just a thought is the V band clamp the right size, may not be clamping tight enough. Had difficulty getting the right size when I lost a clamp.

I have the same 46" Samsung and it is really good for HD TV and brilliant on BluRay with the Samsung 6900 3D player. Quality of ordinary HD is damb good too. They have really improved image quality in the past four years, hooked up to 7.1 amp it sounds good too. My previous LED HD TV was looking a bit dated so I decided to to go HD/3D Just got in on the end of Samsung's £200 cash back too. Got the 3D player 1/2 price so it was a no brainer. Still can't find Avatar 3D for sale though.
